I’ve watched Agnes here render and blend the eyes at least 50 times, the final high lights with the yellow and cream and reinforce the lowest shadows about 30 times. And I will continue to do so until I stop picking up a new hint or little trick each and every time. Seriously, Agnes is so naturally fluid and automatically deliberate in her execution and confident stroke it just screams Mountains of experience and bar none “pro” more than most if not all I’ve watched thus far. Thank you so much for sharing this
The portraitists of Montmartre are drawing everyday. There is no time to make mistakes.Agnes is a serious Pro,and there is much to learn from her pastel technique.Thank you for your comment.
Thank you for this commentI just found her today , I Guess I Will apply same principle as you and I wille continue to watch her Artist rendition until I stop picking up a new hint. God bless you for the beautiful observacion When I Saw the eyes how fluid and Fresh it's beautifully done 👌 I was saying the same thing. Wow
Davy your movie skills just keep getting better and better. An artist making vids of artists at work. The results are beyond words....Bravo Agnes....and Bravo Davy.
Davy, it has been 10 years hard to believe. Thank you for sharing this video, for those of us who cannot visit we get a first person perspective. F I am not mistaken we have lost some of these artist and these videos will serve as a world treasure for all to see. Thank you Davy I hope all is well with you and yours.
Thank you for your kind words Scott.Indeed, time flies! Most of the portraitists who have featured in my videos are still working at Montmartre, including Agnes. We are not getting any younger but the magic of the place du Tertre will always live on.Covid has affected everyone this year but restrictions have been lifted and hopefully things will be back to normal before long.Best wishes to you from Montmartre!
Agnes is a great artist, while having my portrait made she was so warm and nice, we were having a lovely chat (as much as you can chat while posing!). At the end, when done... the moment that you stand up and go across to see the end result... she said it's ready, come to see it... I asked her how do you feel when your model stands and goes to see your work, she answered with a big laugh "confident" :) She really is a nice lady.
In the first few moments of watching I could see from the facility of her strokes this portrait sketch was going to be a treat to watch develop! I wasn't disappointed, Agnes art work is amazing!!
I like to draw but pastels are my weakness, man I'm horrible with pastels. Beautiful artworks like these inspires me very much. Wish to see more from her. ❤💕
Well said Davy your reply to Uyi Samuel, i believe most of the street artists do it because it is what they are passionate about and not if they could make a fortune, also it's better than working for a employer who could go bust at any time, then what or when would they then find a new job! i have a passion and a dream to be a artist and go to Montmartre to see and watch there fascinating work, i have done some portraiture with charcoal, pastels, and pencils myself and now back practicing it again. ☺
@PrincessSorra Start with mid-tone then add lighter colours. The darkest colours should be used right at the end.Pure white highlights are finishing touches too. Avoid white paper;tinted half-tone paper is much better for blending.Remember all pastels will become 'dirty' if you overwork the drawing..keep it fast and fresh!
Bravo Agnes, un super portrait; du débout à la fin. Je devrais regarder plus souvent ce que tu fais.....pour continuer à aprendre. Bravo au cineaste aussi.
You are an Amazing artist Ms Agnes....i myself wish to learn such Technique using Pastel...but i know itz not an easy thing to do...thanks for sharing your Talent...
@PrincessSorra In fact the portrait was executed in 30 minutes.I edited out a lot, including the begining, to keep within the you tube 10 minute deadline, but 30 mins is still very fast.In fact Agnes is probably the fastest portraitist at the place du tertre.
i watch this video almost everyday . ive been a subscriber for ? Davey thank u so very much for taking the time to share these videos. One day i want to be a part of this . Its kind of like being in your own little world n i watch this.
Superb. Even if I disagree with the choice of colors, it's nonetheless a pleasure to see a video where a drawing of this technical level comes to life.
Really great artist. I have dream to be like this always but my life now so sad with relationship it's complicated and I can't freedom. However I still have plan my life in a future to be a freedom artist.I could runaway from bad relationship first then I will be free
Am an artist in Napoli Italy" I have never really seen any part of the world that take street artist for jobless urchins like that place" they don't have value for the arts like they have for six sticks of cigarettes, I got frustrated and left the streets, I just look around all the artist and I felt painful to come to terms with the mental energy the artist Exhaust and been priced so low like a common street beggar really cut my heart, so many of the artist just tried and after a while they disappeared.
The fact that your art is created on the street, does not reduce the value of your work.I've seen truly great portraitists in nearly 40 years of time spent drawing 'tourists'.Tourists are human beings. They all have behind the eyes a spiritual reality.I am not drawing souvenirs, and the best of us are searching to de-mask the sitter. And when you manage ,in a few minutes to capture the man or woman behind the mask ..and everyone who is a spectator is saying " very good" etc...there is no way the client can impose their "image" of themslves on you.If you want to make money,it is not a good idea to be an artist. Most artists died poor .Even Rembrandt. Van Gogh sold one painting.he was supported financialy by Theo. his brother .Read his lettters to theo and you will realize that this man who had a passion for art that neither ridicule or poverty could kill.I want every kid who is dreaming of 'starving in the attic studio' ,getting the the girls and one day becoming famous and rich...this is hollywood crap.If you are prepared to work and work and work,be prepared to live on next to nothing through cold winter months,if you can handle being treated like a beggar when you are trying to get someone to sit down and pose, don't give up.If ,however, this 'street life' is killing you then leave it.If you don't enjoy the ups and downs and only want the best day to happen every day, leave it.Only passion, real passion and dedication will give you the strength to climb whatever mountain you wish to climb.Rememeber ,though, you have only one life.Try to live your dream.
Davy Lim I appreciate what you said, but I still hope that artist will not at least worry about food or shelter when they draw... I don’t think it is necessary to prove true passion of drawing by suffering from no food or shelter. It is too crucial to artists!!
@yvadmil ahh, i was gonna say, dang, ten minutes for that? xD ahaha, but thirty mins is still just wow.. do yu perhaps have any tips on using pastels? :O cause i've been practicing with pastels and i always seem to smudge the darker colors and can never do anything about it. >

All artists should respect as their sacrifices for their time to learn art
