    also encore is actually insane with the ETB slivers, each sees itself and the other two entering at the same time and gives each other two more instances of the ability, making that 9 triggers on encore. So goading 9 creatures, drawing 9 cards with hibernating, getting +9/+9 with monarch, etc.

    As a sliver player of many years. Tomer makes a really good point about taunting sliver's usefulness. You are already playing a deck that makes you the arch enemy so every evasive threat is gonna be coming your way and all the targeted removal is going to be reserved for removing your evasion. A repeatable source of goad flies under the radar for a lot of people since you aren't removing anything and throws a bit of chaos into the politics of the players trying to work against you.

    If I remember correctly the keyword Cascade stacks, so a fun interaction with the Gravemother and The First Sliver is encoring The First Sliver back giving you generally 3 copies of The First Sliver which will give each sliver spell you cast Cascade, Cascade, Cascade and because The First Sliver gives Cascade to all sliver spells, not just the ones in hand, the spells you hit off of the initial Cascade will, if they are slivers, also Cascade and so on so forth!

    I have to say with richards assessment of cards in this set I wonder what cards he actually puts in his deck. Like if it isn't good enough to be an in case of boardwipe play this card with other synergy but it is good enough to be an arcane adaptation on a body but anything that says indestructible is bad because exile removal and if it's scary just remove it but also swords is a bad card like what is a good card? in "modern magic" a card seems to need to wipe the board, draw you fifteen cards, give you an extra turn and win the game on the spot while you're at it but like I feel like 4 mana "win the game" would be too slow in modern magic or someone might counter it with a free spell or something so probably cut it from your deck. IDK just a little mystified as to what cards are actually good enough to see play in a richard deck and I have to say fledgling osprey is not a good example to put up next to a bunch of the cards he poo poos in this and the last episode.

    From experience, the goad ability from Taunting Sliver can dominate a game. Unless you run an optimal mana base (expensive) and run the best sliver commanders, this deck is actually relatively slow to go wide. Being able to goad your opponents' biggest threats can often save your existing slivers, as so many threats in commander come with removal on attack or can be an outright lethal threat if not blocked.
    The important thing to remember with sliver tribal is that you want to assess each card as if it's the only sliver you have in play. The goal for the deck is to have 10-15 huge slivers in play, but once you achieve that you've won the game so it doesn't make sense to evaluate cards based on that board state. Instead, evaluate the cards on how much they help you achieve that board state.
    For instance, instead of assuming the Sliver Legion will make your slivers the biggest creatures on the board I evaluate it as a +3/+3 (since I wouldn't play it unless I'd at least 3 slivers in play). This is why Cascade, Indestructible and Tutoring are the most overpowered sliver commander abilities - they make your win con more reliable.

    Descendants fury in a deck that isn't a tribal deck but has pairs of creatures of a same type, one cheaper, one expensive. It doesnt seem completely unreasonable to be able to craft your deck like that without actually making this card your secret commander. There are a *lot* of magical cards out there. Decks using sneak attack/purphorous and the aforementioned Henzie decks seems likely candidates for this to be a great roleplayer in!

    Arcane Adaptations effects are HIGHLY overrated in my opinion. I think this new commander is only useful if you're mixing tribes and a lot of people are suggesting it to just make their staples into the relevant tribe, which is a terrible use for it. You don't use this to turn vampires into skeletons. You use this to turn your skeletons into vampires. It's a 5 mana do nothing, you have to have some amazing synergy to make it worthwhile. "I get to five mana, and then when I untap I can make my ramp pieces extra good!" -Statements from the utterly deranged. You have a three-card 12 mana combo to draw a card off Tribe Elder, I'm not impressed. Richard says Overlord isn't that bad because you can kill it but thinks this is good?

    Rukarumel biologist caught my imagination when it was spoiled. I've been a lifelong rebel player and this card spoke to me. As I was brewing this deck, it was difficult to figure out how to balance it. There can be a real concern about having your commander die & your deck doing little. I've come to a place where I broke down the deck into 3 creature categories: Rebels (some changelings), Slivers, & Commander. With this combination of creatures, the deck can run on any 2 of 3 categories of creatures. The deck also runs a moderately difficult combo to assemble as a potential win con.

    • @MakeVarahHappen
      @MakeVarahHappen Год назад +2

      I think the card is just terrible if you're trying to make synergy pieces on-tribe. I think you get more out of making your tribe another type so they can get better buffs. Granted, Rebels might be the exception given how much they tutor. Turning the entire chain into pod sounds great.

    1) Gravemother on the field with Parallel Lives/Doubling Season/Anointed Procession; if your in a 4 person group you get 6 copies of the the desired Sliver your recurring with Gravemother. If you decided to pick the Legion, all the slivers will get +6/+6 for each sliver that ETB's. With The First Sliver you get 6 Cascade triggers per Sliver casted.
    2) (A judge might want to help me confirm this) With Gravemother out and Basal Sliver Encored, you create 3 basal copies netting you 6 black mana per sliver sacrificed. Use Torment of Hailfire or Genesis Wave to win.

    I'm with Tomer on Gravemother, I think she's very fun looking and personally she looks like the safest Sliver Commander to bring to random tables. Sliver Overlord is just always powerful, you will get hated out unless its a really high power table. The First Sliver is the most fun one, IMO, and you can build it to be weak unlike Overlord, but with randos I don't think a full table would trust you, you can only play that casually with friends. Sliver Queen tells me 2 things when you sit down, you have a lot of money put in that deck and you have cards that go infinite with your commander, so I would be very wary of you. Gravemother is just strong enough and certainly unique enough to feel good about playing, I'd put it second after The First in twrms if uniqueness, but its not strong enough to be an obvious threat.

    How is Tomer excited about Jaya's Phoenix but doesn't like Leori? It's cheaper, can easily copy two abilities in a turn, and can block *and* attack. All it's missing is haste (which given it's two mana cheaper means it still attacks first) and can't be recurred... unless it's your commander. I think he overvalues chump blocking when there are three people attacking your planeswalkers. Leori is just a million times better!

    I think even Tomer is underrating gravemother, essentially all the good slivers are cmc 3 or less, with either of the mana slivers in the yard/play you get to unleash your whole graveyard in a single turn and then play one of the man slivers that converts those into damage(legion, cautery, lava belly, etc...) and you win p easily. obviously a very different play pattern from other sliver lords, but id put it as the strongest sliver commander rn, only really weak to bogs and farewell. add in ways to untap the team and it becomes even easier. Overlord MIGHT still be the best, but in a dedicated sliver deck id take grave mother over queen or legion for sure. it is also a lot less of a tribal deck tho and more of a dredge/combo deck, which probably takes some of the fun of playing tribal out of it for most(you also do just straight lose to a bog so mb I'm being too optimistic)

  • @DaddySnark
    @DaddySnark Год назад

    I have been playing Sliver Queen as the commander for quite a while now. I had Overlord, but as everyone expects you either tutor up the win or everyone stares at you as you waste time. Legion is plain enough I never even tried it. Hivelord was actually pretty good, but you are leaning into Jokulhops and other destroy-all effects that leave only you with a board which has fallen out of favor socially. Queen has been in the sweet spot of strong enough to do work but not scary enough to be instantly removed. I haven't tried First Sliver, mostly because I am not as enchanted with cascade as everyone else, but its definitely in the same category of strong but not scary. Play slivers without your friends getting mad at your deck's sub-theme.
    So, Gravemother? I think its going to draw the same attention that any all-in graveyard combo deck would. Slivers are not individually strong like most reanimator targets, so outside of the few cute combo slivers its not going to be crazy to just encore at random. Encore exiling your slivers is definitely a cost since you can't revive them again with Patriarch's Bidding etc. Self exile feels at odds with being a reanimator deck and pushes towards Entomb/Buried Alive into a specific set of slivers to just Encore for game. So... cute, but functionally same problem as Sliver Overlord. You are either stacking your graveyard into a combo or trying to convince everyone that "its not a combo deck really guys." Not as obvious as Overlord, but it'll end up in that same pile of commanders that are auto-target just in case its the combo version.
    I'm sticking with Queen. For those who don't like proxies or reserved list cards, First Sliver is same tier. Gravemother is going in the 99.

    Everyone sleeps on how Guff has 6 loyalty on his first turn down. The only way hes getting ganked if you ramp him T3 is if your opponents played 6 power worth of creatures between them on T1-T3 AND arent discouraged by the prospect of a chump. If you arent last in the turn order you have a really good shot of being able to block.
    If you just choose not to block, youve saved 6 damage and can just recast guff and make another 1/1. Its a good way to delay deploying your other walkers until you have enough mana to play a wrath and then deploy a walker to secure the board.

    The most important word on Toski is "indestructible". That says all you need to know about how wrong you are about Sliver Hivelord.
    Richard. Every sliver has cascade with The First Sliver. The floor is x mana into a 1 mana spell, so minimum you are getting one free spell cast from the deck. The ceiling is paying x mana to get x spells, x-1 of which are free cast from the deck. The only way it's weaker than Sliver Overlord is because you tutor up infinite combos to win the game with Overlord. If you untap with overlord and lose you built the deck poorly. Whereas you aren't 100% guaranteed to with First Sliver, just extremely likely.

    One thing the crew is missing about For the Ancestors is you're drawing cards during the game. The earliest you can play this is turn two, where if you haven't taken any mulligans you've taken 9 cards out of your deck. That increases the chances of two or more cards to 65.6%. Richard is once again trippin' because Tomer is talking about draw cards when your engine is shut down and he's suggesting cards that all require a board or the ability to build a board. Harmonize is also just terrible.

    • @Orkimtor
      @Orkimtor Год назад

      So in those 9 cards, that you have drawn, there were no creatures of the chosen type? It is all about the ratio of creature cards in the deck to the total deck size and that does not change a lot. 50 slivers in 100 cards is the same as 45 slivers in 90 cards. I think it's an okay card, that depends a lot on your deck. If you have around 40 or more creatures of the same type, you can definitely think about it, also because it has flashback, but with 30 or lower I think it is not really worth it.

    • @MakeVarahHappen
      @MakeVarahHappen Год назад +1

      That's fair. I would be willing to say if you're playing this on turn three we at least know what three of your nine cards are. In Slivers for example, if three of your cards are two lands and a mana dork, gemstone caverns, or some other ramp you get out before turn 2, there is a 10.1% you drew 0 slivers with 30 cards, a 29.3% chance you drew 1 sliver, 33.7% you drew 2, 19.7% you drew 3, 6.13% you drew 4, 0.966% you drew 5, and 0.966% you drew a sliver for all 6 cards you see (though at a certain point I wouldn't keep these hands). If we want two or more the rates are, respectively, 65.6%, 63.4%, 61.0%, 58.6%, 56.1%, 53.6%, and 51.0%. So still, you will always have an above 50% chance to draw 2 or more slivers, and at the most likely probability you have a 61% chance. Volatile, but still better than what they said.
