The problem is that it's the mountains. There are 100's of thousands of people that are unreachable. Completely cut off from everything. No power, no water, no communication, no infrastructure to reach them. No idea if they are even still alive. Asheville is 10% of the population of western NC that is effected. Mother nature is telling us all something , Global Warming = Climate Change these storms are getting more intense every year and with more frequency ..? If and when you are able to Vote think about what kind of leader you want , a leader who believes in the science of climate change and plans to do something about it and find ways to slow the warming of our planet or a leader who chooses money and wealth for his rich friends over this thing called Climate change caused by Global Warming who claims Global warming is a hoax , does this look like a hoax to you..? Just unbelievable...the comment section that is. How does a huge helicopter land in a debris field with feet of mud and get the supplies anywhere to unload for distribution? I hurricane prep, I live five miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I'm prepared and I do know that it's wise to have at least a week of supplies. Sometimes it's that long before anything can happen for relief efforts... This isn't just one town it's hundreds of miles from South Florida up the Florida Coast and inland rivers, Georgia, SC, NC, TN, and beyond at less impact. The first priority is search and rescue, that is still going on people! I guarantee you that the folks that don't live in towns will be trying to get down from the mountain when things dry out enough. You can't land a helicopter in those mountains. My parents are from Pickens County SC, I spent most summers of my childhood up there. Stayed and traveled up in those mountains it's forest, mud, boulders, cliffs, rock slides and mudslides too. They may need to drop supplies in and extract people still in the mountains with helicopters with baskets like the Coast Guard does here for water rescues. I'm sixty years old, I've been through that many hurricane seasons in Florida, this is unprecedented and the most heart wrenching toll I've seen.

People aren't going to die, neighbors are helping neighbors, there are a lot of resources just laying around, these people aren't used to gathering up all these resources. I seen video of stocked stores and such. I lived in Florida and lived through 5 major hurricanes. After the first two you figure out very quickly where to find what you need. If you find a full can of gas lying about, you take it. I don't mean steal from your neighbors, but stuff like that gets washed up on dry ground. But these people will see something just laying about won't use it because it doesn't belong to them. Our neighborhood alway held neighborhood picnics. Anyone that had food, fuel stuff like that the first priority was to make sure everyone had a meal every day. Nobody went without food. But when you get hit by a hurricane every other year, its second nature to go into survival mood for a while

Unbelievable! No, things are not going to get better in a couple of days. We live south of Asheville. We couldn’t get out of our little community b/c the bridge we use to get across the creek (that became a raging river) washed it away like it was made of toothpicks. Even if we could get out, there are only two roads to get to town. The one down a winding mountain has big sections collapsed or washed away. The other one is completely flooded over by the French Broad river. Husband was finally able to walk to our small fire station for water and food. There are literally thousands of power lines and poles downed they said. Power company says some of their substations are under water and some will have to be rebuilt. No cell phone reception. 54 out of 55 towers were out of commission. Huge trees down everywhere. It’s going to take months to clear them. Years to clear all the debris. But we are so very lucky and grateful. Still have a home. Still alive. Many were not so fortunate. Homes, businesses, lives, dreams were destroyed in the blink of an eye. Everyone is doing the best they can. No one I know is talking about politics or political parties right now. We are so thankful for the linemen, first responders, FEMA, National Guard, World Kitchen volunteers, military, the president, governor, and the hundreds and hundreds of caring individuals who’ve brought supplies, food, water, and hope.

Asheville is in a desperate situation.
Many parts of the city and county are on a central water supply system that has suffered major damage. There is no running water and the prediction is for many areas to not see running water for THREE months. We have 270,000 people here and we cannot live into the winter months without running water.
Many people are making trips to get water from streams and creeks to flush their toilets. Don't know what we will do when these sources freeze. Please help.
Contact politicians in your area to see if they're who they say they are and are willing to do something about this. Follow up on your contacts with them. Hold their feet to the fire, as the expression goes. It's time for politicians to step up and make things happen. Help us.

This newscaster is clueless. I have been watching videos and it is impossible, in many areas, to get in supplies, even with helicopters. Most roads and bridges are washed out, whole towns are still under water, and many power lines are still down, making it a safety hazard for helicopters. As the flood waters recede, then there will be more places for helicopters to land, bringing supplies. This is the mountains and there aren't many flat places for helicopters to land and right now most of the flat areas are either under water or covered with debris. I'm sure helicopters are already in route to dropping in supplies. Not only that but many places in the mountains are difficult to access even in the best of conditions. Finally, the devastation covers about every town in Western NC as well as many towns in neighboring states. The devastation is so great that NC resources are not enough. Help will have to come from multiple states, and it will take time for that help to arrive. There is no way anyone could have prepared enough for a storm this catastrophic.

But Asheville was never hit like this in anyones lifetime, so all this wide spread devastation is new to them. No..actually it's been overun with out of state weridos that pretty much screwed up this once peaceful mountain tourist town. That said the recovery will need a tremedous amount of resources not just for Ashville but most of western NC.
