- Check out this weird and rare synth from 1985. The Seiko DS-250 uses digital/additive synthesis and it reminds me of something like an ESQ-1 or PPG (though, obviously not as good) but it has a charm to it. Even more rare are the DS-310 synthesizer and DS-320 sequencer modules that were also made available which attach to this thing. To my knowledge, the DS--202 is the only other keyboard Seiko made. Again, there's a charm about this thing that I can't quite put my finger on...it's just a weird specimen. Send it through effects like I did (using a TC M350) and you can get some usable stuff out of it and I'll be the expansion modules are fun...if you can find them. Sounds like an epic quest waiting to begin. Google a picture of one full expanded, it looks cool!

the first patch was great
Loving these sounds, interesting synth
They sound very FM
It's like a Kawaii K1 mixed with one of the early Casiotones on the Cosmic setting. Such a strange but unique sound.
They made 3 keyboards, there was apparently a DS-101 as well, it looks very basic.
This sound felt so futuristic to my ears back in the 80s.. and now it sounds so plasticky and outdated, with everything that synth-tech offers us these days.
In my opinion, it sounds better than the Yamaha DX7
Interesting thought but I don’t think it’s necessarily better sounding and one can edit and program the DX7. In any case, I have a 250 and it sounds horribly thin but it is unique and has its place in a mix.
@@frankstetka7206I thought the ds-250 would sound great if programmed, right?
I really like the acoustic piano patch (I presume), it's got a perfect timbre about it.
Thanks for sharing!
Those synthesizer's instruments seems like oceanic instruments and space instruments
I own all three models & add ons. They are fun. The 250 doesn't like the sequencer though, probably due to having midi. There is also (like many manufacturers) a midi recorder which then you'd just play & record live...
This synth is used by Jean Michel Jarre in the "Rendez-Vous" album, on 1st and last tracks. Can you listen these tracks and recognize the DS-250 sound?🤔
The choir behind the laser harp (synthex) too 🙂
@@skinnyhastrup4614 If you mean the 3rd track of the album, there isn't any Synthex on it. The instruments Jarre used on this track are the Laser Harp, Seiko DS-320 (a sequencer), RMI and Fairlight. It's weird that he mention only the Seiko DS-320, which is an add-on sequencer for the Seiko DS-250 and it can't drive any other synth.🤔
Laserharp = Synthex patch ;)
@@skinnyhastrup4614 Check the credits of each track of the album, Jarre wrote every instrument he was using. Unlike concerts, in the album he didn't use a Synthex on track 3. The lead sound is probably a Fairlight. You can compare this sound to the lead Synthex sound he is using on 2nd part of the track 2, you'll see that they are two different sounds.

Seiko also made a DS-101 keyboard for the synth and sequencer modules. I first thought it didn't have the connector slots on the back for the synth/sequencer modules, but just checked on the one I have and confirmed they are there.
I heard one of those patches and thought, “boy, that would comp that one Stranger Things song very very well.” And then I heard it. Well done.
Awesome upload. I just got one. I used to have the 202 model but I had to sell it during the move. It didn't come with the charger. This 250 did so I'm excited to play it.
There is also a ds-101 but those are really rare. Only three models. 250 being the most common it seems but still rare.
Please do more content with this keyboard! I'm loving these sounds.
Yeah the fully expanded version does look cool, haven't seen it in a while.
Shining in the darkness ✨️
Hey cool content! I recently got a DS-202 myself, but it doesn’t have the power cord. I was wondering what kind yours use and where I might be able to get it? Not sure if it’s the same but the keyboard is so rare there is almost no info on it
It's a dual range power cord. You may have to build it yourself. I just bought the 250 yesterday with power cord, hard case and foot petal in mint condition for $40.00. It looks easy to make. I can let you know.
A qué año corresponde este modelo?
Help... I was looking for a keyboard for physical therapy after being shot several times in the late 80's and 90's. Long story short....About six month ago.. I got this keyboard, in a seiko hard case and a seiko sustain pedal, all for $50.00 U.S.. The lady who sold said, she thinks she has the ds 310 some where at home.. I think the ds 250 only needed one of the of the add ons.. My question is...... Do you know how to use the the transpose key????? When i turn on the machine everything lights up as it cycles .. Everything seems to work.. But if i just push the transpose button nothing happens.. The light wont stay on??? Am i doing something wrong???
Hey ur correct about only needing one module. Since this unit has midi the sequencer doesn't really work with it yet, the synth add on works wonders. As far as trans key you might need to press something additional to indicate where you want to transpose too. Mine is put away yet that's all I recall ATM. Best 2u
