    You know what would make it a double prank. If they actually had stuff printed in them in invisible ink. But they don't tell that until they have an adventure path that uncovers some secrets of the gap. At which point anyone with a copy gets to read notes written by NPCs in the adventure by using a blacklight or heat or something.

    I wonder if there is a canon explanation they simply have chosen to not reveal or if they are taking the J.J. approach to 'Lost' and making it up as things progress.

      That's a good question. I feel like each GM there probably has their own explanation, but since they will never release an official cause there's no need to go all "Lost" on us.
