    I recently bought a cheap and fairly old second-hand Bachmann class 108 at a show. It still looks as good as current Bachmann models in my opinion. I agree with you about the internal lights! I replaced them with lengths of 12v self-adhesive LED strip - connected via 4k resistors and now the light is brighter and more even. The trouble is that you need a decoder in both cars for DCC operation.

      Sam'sTrains I want to ask u something wut is ur favorite trains from American or British and that look like a cool train and the trains i like where u can fully see the wheels and the rod helping the train move

      Yes, they are 'No Smoking' signs which also show the penalty... '20 quid'... and at the bottom of them in micro print... 'Printed in China'! The pipework on the end of the driving trailer should be associated with the water filling pipes for the lavatory. Thanks Sam.

    I have one of these! Earlier today, I noticed that the inner couplings were the same type as the El Cheapo £10 wagons... so now, I can't resist running those in the middle of my Class 108. It looks completely ridiculous, and it's enough to make any rivet-counter cry in despair, but it's all in good fun!

    • @SamsTrains

      Ooh very nice! Yeah they are the same - I've never thought of doing that before though, haha! ;D

    Hi Sam. Thanks for another well-produced and informative video. I have the class 108 in green with half yellow panels and paid about what you did. I've noticed that the new rrp is now over £200 - very disappointing. This class was the mainstay of passenger services on my local railway in the 1960's and 1970's. I only ever saw them in 2-car pairs although they were run in multiple for additional capacity. As well as 2-car units, 4-car units (i.e. 2 x 2-car) were also very common. 6-cars were less common but by no means rare and I recall seeing at least one example of an 8-car formation!

    • @mrbluenevertoleratehatred
      @mrbluenevertoleratehatred 2 года назад +1

      Agreed, I only ever remember seeing two car 108 formations unless several two car sets where coupled up in service with a final destination as the local depot for service the next day.

    Hi Sam, what a great series of videos these diesels have been. I haven't commented on the others as I have been run off my feet , but all of them have been great. I'm also a steam fan as you know but it has been refreshing to see something different. Keep them coming coming Sam, always looking forward to the next video! Great to see my photo of my Garrett up as well! Thanks.

    The window stickers are definitely 'No Smoking' stickers. This was before the days of the blanket smoking ban of course; however even back then there was a no smoking policy on the train, aside from the carriage/area dedicated to smokers.

    Sam, thankyou for yet another informative and enjoyable video. I have just bought one of these, green with speed whiskers. It is wonderfully quiet at any speed... quiet enough to hear the wheels o the track joints and points. Mine sails up a 1 in 36 grade and its performance has always been excellent. Once again thank you for the great work.

    The eyesore is that virgin liveried HST. Like DMUs and shunters 04/08, but not stinky diesels. The little red symbols on the DMU windows tell us that smoking cigarettes of any kind is prohibited. So they say "NO SMOKING". The pipes on the dummy car are water-feed pipes. The driver will water the carriages well before moving off. It's the same with sets of Mk 1 coaches. This ensures all toilet cubicles on the train are in good working order, and that we can wash our hands afterwards. This is done regularly on all preserved railways, including the Llangollen Railway. It's better than being caught short.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  5 лет назад +1

      Ooh dear - not a fan of that livery then?? Very sorry again for the offence! ;D

    Great review Sam, i have 2 original release 108s from 2007 a 3car & 2 car they cost a staggering £50ish from hattons back then. 😊
    When the 108s were in service the 2 car sets mainly ran in pull -push mode with one diesel power car and a none powered driving car.
    I carnt believe the rrp now 😊 many thanks 👍

    I think it looks to have good interior detail. Regarding the lights in the passenger compartments, the lights in my Bachmann coaches are not that bright either, maybe it is a Bachmann thing. That 125 would give the Japanese Bullet train a run for its money!

    Hello Sam, I have a question regarding the Class 108.
    The coupling in the dummy car connecting it to the motor car came off and I lost it.
    Can you tell me what coupling I should get to replace it?
    Thanks!

    • @SamsTrains

      Hi Graeme - I think you need the European style NEM coupling - if you do a search on Ebay, you can find them! :D
      Thanks for watching, Sam :)

    Nice model there Sam, I've had my bones shaken in many a 108 over the years. The little stickers in the windows are to denote either the smoking or nonsmoking compartments, can't remember which. And I think the pipe work on the roof is something to do with the air brakes, but I may be wrong.
    Have a great week mate
    Jon

    • @SamsTrains

      Thanks a lot Jon... have you really?? I don't know whether I've ridden one or not... possibly at a heritage railway... are they rough to ride in then?

      Cheers,

    • @stashyjon
      @stashyjon 7 лет назад

      I think its more to with fact they were getting on a bit, and some of the track wasnt 100% to be honest, but by the mid to late 80s all the first gen dmu's were a bit rough to ride in

  • @TomPrickVixen
    @TomPrickVixen 7 лет назад

    This is not the 1st rail car u have I see, with the standard EU coupling between the units, and I can't understand why they use that after all its not a close-coupling type or anything. Any idea why? Anyway I'm not sure witch is my fastest train/loco i have, haven't raced them since i past the 25 loco number, and back then my fastest loco was the rebuilt DR class 01/5 express loco, but I have more modern locos since than including streamlined steamers and some electric locos too.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 лет назад

      No not the first - the Lightweight has those too... I know, it's really odd... though they are NEMS, so you could swap them if you wanted, but no - no idea why, lol!
