I was recently injured and out of BJJ for 3 months due to a rib injury and it was a very difficult time for me spiritually. Unfortunately, I spiraled into alcoholism during that time and generally felt hopeless and depressed. Looking back, I’m ashamed that I let myself get out of control like that but it’s a testament to how BJJ makes me want to be a better man as well as the powerful community it provides and how much accountability is built into it. I need to work on myself so that I don’t fall into those negative traps again.
Hey @esteban, appreciate your vulnerability and chiming in man.
I hear more and more perspectives like yours on a regular basis.
Easy for me to say, but there is nothing to be ashamed of.
Have you returned to training?
@@thekettlebellcoach Yes I've been back for about a month now and feeling pretty close to 100%. I had a rib cartilage injury which took forever to heal but I'm so thankful to be back. Thanks for the positive words and your content Hector!
I would say more boxing and classic folk style wrestling(high-school and college wrestling)…. Gi BJJ, while good for self defense against people who don’t know it, is the softer art and was intended to be that way. Even Rener Gracie alludes to this with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. I feel like no Gi Jiu-jitsu is harder and better, but the downside is it’s more towards sports, which not everyone wants to do… But for men I would even also say catch wrestling and combat wrestling/jujutsu…. And I know catch wrestling schools are hard to find. BJJ schools are ubiquitous today…. But if you’re a man with a son that doesn’t play football or basketball, get them or encourage them to take up wrestling first.… just my opinion…
Appreciate you chiming in my friend.
I like it.
I think the common ground here is, men need some sort of Martial Arts, some sort of initiation process led by men, to grow into the man they want to be.
Whether it's competition-focused or not. Men need to be taught by other men further along the journey than themselves.
I greatly appreciate you sharing your thoughts.
Jujitsu has defined helped me step into manpower. And I'm 42 years old.
Awesome man!
bro what? 😭
Great insight. Thanks for sharing!
@@awakenotwoke6930 , thanks man. Appreciate you watching.
What are you smoking lmao
No it’s not. For some? Sure… maybe. But it simply is not.
Ok.
Imagine being this insecure. Getting your identity with your ability to roll with guys in pajamas
You don't consider self-defense an important life skill? Do you have any kids?
@@jasonmitchell7550 he is gey
@joseph-iw9jw, I didn't talk about my "identity." I talked about initiation. My identity comes from God, the creator of the universe. Not from men in pajamas.
However, we know, as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Appreciate you chiming in.
