One of my most ambitious projects yet, I set out to transform much of the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack into a vaporwave-esque lofi hip hop adventure.
Being such a massive game with such an expansive soundtrack, I did my best to keep as much of the overall narrative of the experience intact through both the visual and audio elements of this project, only using footage from the game that correlated directly with when each track is heard during an actual playthrough.
Because each track is simply a direct sample of the original PlayStation tracks, pumped through heavy degradation and the addition of various elements (e.g. drums, bass, and a plethora of effects) this mixtape will always be available for free.
However, if you really do enjoy what I've done here, there is an option to pay what you like to show your appreciation and support future projects.

At over an hour long, I get people might not quite be ready to just jump right into this thing, so here's some of my favorite tracks to give you a sense of what's going on here:
6:50 - Tifa's Theme
17:02 - Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII
26:18 - Mako Reactor ¦ 魔晄炉

Yo this bad boy is massive, can't wait to check it all out man. Congrats on the release.
@@lzls4379 Thanks man, took wayyy longer than I expected to put all the pieces together on this but super psych'd on the final product
I almost cried seeing the name and the length. I've only found three final fantasy waves other than yours (two for 7, one for 6) and a zeldawave. I'm glad to see a video this long, especially for ff!
Please don't be afraid of releasing long sets like these!
This is really great, man. Earthbound next?
Remember when the Sony Entertainment logo stayed up for a few seconds too long and that sense of panic within your soul began growing more and more and more until finally the Playstation logo appeared and you breathed that long sigh of relief? Those were the good ol' days.
I felt that! I remember that struggle when some of my disks were getting a few too many scratches.
On my old copy of FF8 it would always freeze just after starting disc 2 and it was a struggle.. till i figured out opening the PS1 skipped cut scenes haha
YES! That and leaving my memory card at home during sleepovers.
I want that P S 1 logo and sound to last f o r e v e r
I believe that's called "edging".
This is trippy as balls. I'm never taking Mako again.
Take a Remedy man
Wait a minute, you didn't have those stocked up? Man... You must have forgotten to go to a shop, or you are a REAL risktaker...
I'm unfortunately completely hooked on the stuff, a Spree you could say ...
This is when you're dying and one of your favorite childhood soundtracks plays in your memory.
That's a pretty cool way to think about it
you know ive thought about this often. i hope my last dying thought are my loved ones of course and the soundtrack for my favorite video games. lol!
@@sourmentoz for real tho
I sure fucking hope so
@UCpakIj6ImUJcgX7wn91agNw damn straight
My best friend Greg died at 27. We both loved final fantasy and the vaporwave mix with legend of zelda. Now im here alone finding this vaporwave of final fantasy 7. I dont know how to feel.
you're not alone . what was real is still real. your hearts are still one no matter the differences of state. death wont take away your bond. enjoy it all just as he were here. You are not alone, love transcends dimension and time.
I don't know what that must feel like.. I failed to carry any of my childhood friends into adulthood.. So it feels like ff7 and ocarina of time *are* my childhood friends..
I hope that you will continue to enjoy the things you guys did together and that you can bask in fond memories.
Hope what I'm saying is helpful in some way but i don't think there is a right thing to say in this situation. I wish you the best man.
sorry for your loss man. hope things are well with you.
alright
for as long as you remember your friend, he'll never really die
No joke got this game right after I turned 7 and it basically taught me how to read. Whether it was just playing through and reading the dialog or poring over the strategy guide at school during silent reading time. Learning how to play FFVII was more than just beating a game it was probably one of the best ways to actually learn that I have experienced.
LongMasterWolf dont usually leave comments, but this was the same for me too. FF7 enabled me to overcome my inability to read over one summer and I went back to school as one of the classes most advanced readers. Unbelievably good game that means so much to me.
Dude we must be the same age. I couldnt even get to disk two and it left a huge impact
It seems we both had similar experiences with FF7
LongMasterWolf Brother it was the same for me. This game made me who i am, i was reading before i even went to school bc of this game.
Damn I had forgotten that strategy guide. I can visualise it now.
This is what Cloud was thinking about when he suffered Mako poisoning.
yeah wheelchair cloud
Man I loved the remake but...these videos just remind me of how that original magic can’t be completely recreated. Such a powerful game.
Ff7r doesn't had the original feeling... It's all horny waifu and Sephiroth fan fic.
I couldnt even finish part 1 of remake, it's not as good, and it's doesnt have the magic or music to capture the emotions of the scenes.
@@yuseifudo2609 Quality analysis. Never even thought about that--I just stopped at "inauthentic" and "disingenuous" lol.
The magic is called your childhood bro. Sure, the game was good and made with love, but this wasn't the magic you speak about.
@@KinlekOmniGenus-xo9xo ☝️ This. Plus the Remake trilogy is aiming to be more than just a 1:1 recreation of the original and that's a good thing. The people who prefer the original are ALWAYS going to prefer the original, so why not offer something the original doesn't.
I was 7 years old.. To young to be any good at this game so i watched my step dad play it.. Had an enormous crush on Aeris!
One day I was grounded but i wanted to watch him play.. So i snuck out of my room and watched through the crack of the computer room door... And watched Aeris get run right the fuck through! Ran back to my room bawling my eyes out so bad that i didn't get in trouble for sneaking out! Felt like a real person died at the time.. Lol
i love this story. I watched my brother play it and was also wrecked by that moment
It's been 23 years king. She's gone. You have to let her go. Great story btw. :)
😂
I thought I'd share my first view of the scene, cause why not. I, at a really young age probably 7-8 years old or something, literally only saw the pearl falling, bouncing down into the water below, and then seeing the other characters for a brief moment not even knowing what happened😂 I also saw the scene of Aeris being let go into the depths of the water. Years later, I literally went trying to find out what game it was from by only knowing that it was "that falling pearl scene"😂 I find that the game is Final Fantasy 7 and it just so happen to be one of the most iconic video game scenes of all time. Kinda crazy. I grew up mostly with nintendo, so I just so happen to see someone playing it long ago, now I'm going to be playing it for the first time on switch!
God damn that must have hurt a lot holy shit
This is completely insane and cool as hell, you deserve a medal.

I will remember this line when I'm 90.
Yoooo, this attention to detail on the video is amazing. I thought it was just going to be audio tracks, but it's like a cliffnotes of the game's story as well. The VHS effects and 90's TV filter are top notch too.
One Winged Angel slayed me, goddamn
Oh my god that start up... Pure nostalgic bliss.
I've been coming back to this for over a year now, whenever I'm in the mood.
This really is some phenomenal work, one of the best music/ambient crossover things on this platform.
Thanks a lot for making this (:
23:12 Anxious Heart is straight fire, easily my favorite on this album. So greatly improves the original track.
My FF7 Rom file was deleted on my pc by an antivirus(it thought that it was somesort of malware),and I wasn't able to recover it. I was so sad and frustrated that I lost all of my progress, (especially because I was in the middle of the game when the plot became very interesting). It's been a year since I've played FF7,I actually gave up on playing it at the time. Listening to this(again) gave me a reason to replay this masterpiece and to continue the story, even if it means starting everything again, from 0. Thanks :)
EDIT: I forgot to edit, but I've already completed the game :) 100% worth it, don't give up and follow your dreams
The way its pieced together synonymously, musically in game style, is genius to say the least.
The PSX intro is so damn A E S T H E T I C that I don't think you had to alter it, lol.
Hearing it makes me rock hard.
My god, this hits me right where it hurts man.
So many hours spent playing this game when I was a young kid.
I replayed it a few years ago and, graphics aside, it aged really well.
Thanks for making this. Really something special.
Favourite track:
37:18 - Aerith's Theme ¦ エアリスのテーマ
I like the graphics
U didnt try to out beat everyone. U put ur heart to the rhythms, the screen working; u created something u hope other people feel and or are already continuously feeling and I appreciate it. Thank u.
Brings back so many memories from my childhood....why does time have to pass so quickly?
I hit that like button hard at 5:26
I love vaporwave and lo-fi hip hop, and you just married it to my favorite game of all time. Incredible mix. Thank you!
Man, there was some traumatic shit in this game.
I was never able to fully take it in as a teen.
I was just along for the trippy ride.
U SO WHINEY!
i took it in and developed myself, dont play the victim pls.
Yeah, just in the beginning people die in explosion and under debris of a plate, while small cutesy square people talk.
@@OFFICIALFUNUSBAND Excuse you (you don't know me from Adam, buddy lol)
I've healed from my life's traumas, but at the time I played this game, I had dissociative identity disorder, just like Cloud, and so sometimes this game struck really close to home.
@@Raphael0654 Aye, thnx for sharing.
Your ability to hit right in the Nostalgia is just insane, man.
Been following you for literal years now and I just always come back to this, Chrono Cross (easily my fav of yours), and Secret of Mana.
I always have this on to study but I always come back to this tab at 23:13 to watch it all theres just something about it
This is the best lo-fi video game music I've heard yet. And I've never even played this game before. The melodies are totally new to me.
Oh please play it, but I recommend the original if u like the feeling of this ost. Remake is very good but is a modern revisitation, total different from the original idea.
Man, 32:30 makes me feel like all is where it should be in the universe. I love every version of the Great Warrior. Long Live Seto.
if that intro isnt the greatest thing you've heard in your life we cant be friends
5 years passed. Different person. Same feelings. Man did this get me through some trippy times. I wouldn't change a thing.
Ps... Why doesn't this have up to a million views guys?
You produced an amazing soundtrack all of us didn't know we needed. After listening to one of biggest, nostalgic slaps to the face of 2019, it would literally take a Meteor hitting, and wiping out all of life on Earth to forget it exists. I needed this honestly... I am one of those fan boys who still bump OSTs of this game for nostalgic, meditative, and healing purposes. This is so awesome, thank you so much
This is a REAL lofi mix, I hate when people say lofi, but it is some surface level, frat kid version.
The song at thirteen minutes in could be the most fire rap song beat of this decade
WUT? Man, this is insane! From the sound to the video and the general mood of the video... GOLD !
I'm literaly crying right now and I don't know why. Nostalgia punch me hard in the guts. Good work, this is what music is for. Sensations, emotions. Thank you. High five from France
I still keep coming back to this album. It's freaking amazing in every single way! I can't get enough of that old school bassy PS1 startup sound. So much nostalgia for playing FFVII back in the 90s...
I can tell this was made with lots of love! This was a crucial part of my childhood and I love this to bits. Gives me goosebumps
I think this game was a part of _almost_ everybody's childhood.
I dont exaggerate when i say id like parts of this album played at my funeral.
This better be played at my funeral, or I ain't going.
Damn straight right here
Good god, so many memories of this music and game. When it came out in the 90's I was like 11 or 12 or younger I think and had to watch my older cousin play this. As I got to about 13 or 14 My mom bought me this game for Christmas. I used to play this game for hours on end. My grades were bad but I was such a happy little boy. I would stay up late after my parents fell asleep and with my best friend of 23 years, play this game. We also loved and adored OOT. But this game hits different. I still have not played the remake.
I love how its so chilled and then boom 13 mins in were suddenly cooking up in the ktichen 😂
31:46 Try not to cry. CRY A LOT.
I clicked on this to see if it was what I thought it was and you made me tear up again you sonava bitch
Ugh, such a hard song to listen to if you have lost your father IRL
Sometimes, I watch a lot of vaporwave stuff here on RUclips. For hours. Even when I am training. The contrast of the violence I see in every day life, and the peace and melancholy of these songs gives me severe sense of dread. How can something so beautiful spawn from a time so evil? Are you reading this. Black or white? Red or yellow? Do you see the conflict? It's everything. It's everyone. Will you hate me? Will you pull the trigger? It's all going to boil down. Though it's tense I enjoy the freedom.
As soon as the beat dropped I instantly got teleported back into the 90s!
This brings back so many good and sad memories. I love final fantasy but ff7 was my childhood. Not to mention I love vaporwave. This is really fantastic. Just fucking amazing. Thank you.
This mix is epic, VII is my favorite FF game still to this day...
I love the old TV feeling effect, also the sound is getting pitchy sometimes which is great
20:15 what a masterpiece
A MUST Listen if you even remotely enjoyed FF7
So excited for the Switch release! I will finally be able to play this classic!
that Costa del Sol was hiliarious.
FF7 definied my childhood. The story and characters are like part of my life and while in my 30's now it feels natural to have this music still be just as influential and remixed and is truly awesome to see how much the game impacts others across generations. Ill be honest, Ive only been listening to vaporwave/lofi for like a year or two now and was kinda iffy during the first few tracks but OMG, dude you killed it. One Winged Angel is fucking perfect. Love it. Make more.
As much as I love the remake, the vibes I get from this music and game don't compare to the cleanliness of the Remake. I love this video so much please keep up the great work!
With so many good memories of the music remixed, I found several times during listening to this myself saying, "Wow!"; especially with the transition from one song to the next being so smooth. This is very well done. Keep up the good work!
Wish these beats were on Spotify but tbh I know they wouldn't be just quite as good without the visual stimuli too.
Some of the changes make it sound more authentic than the original. Not sure how but the vibe is perfect. Thanks!
@@merchalternative8338 That's so true. I will have to buy an old TV for the next time I play through all games like this. Great idea :)
This is how it sounds being played through your brain device.
This is awesome. Right in the nostalgia glands
This is so amazing. You've hit all my nostalgia feels in under an hour. I love what you did with The Great Warriorand I wish it were longer. Well done!
Sephiroth must’ve disliked the video
I needed this. A lot of us did. Thank you, kind sir!
Yooo I found the Chrono trigger one yesterday and now Final Fantasy! Amazing
SAME! God that Chrono one is too good!! Im literally playing this while I play ff7 today xD
Me fucking too!
Here Too!!!
i found this one then the chrono one and im like wtf goddamm that double combo xD
Damn it! That death part after she dies gets me every time, but it's right before the Chasing the Caped Manbeat! Straight fire! I wanna loop it for a ringtone. Don't judge me.
Simply amazing! Brings back some good memories 👌🏼💯
I’ve never listened to Vaporware, but I’m glad this came up, it’s incredible.
Great job, there’s so much nostalgia.
OMG the nostalgia chills when I heard the original PS start up sound and then RIGHT into the FFVII menu music.
This is great. It makes me want to listen to the soundtrack exactly as it was except with just some tape/VHS distortion.
How dare you rob me of the bad ass intro right when Cloud jumps onto the scene and we know he is about to kick some ass. Other that great work.
This & the Chrono Trigger video are sick as hell. Thank you
Outstanding! I especially liked when the del Sol theme came in at the technical difficulties screen
Great mix! Really like your samples of FF7. The video is also well done. Bravo.
The remix of Tifa's theme totally got me,
Edit: A lot of your remixes are really on point. Great job
I'll never forget the first time I heard the theme from FF VI and was immediately a Final Fantasy lifer
low key making me cry out here
Thank you. This is just fantastic. The amount of work you put into this absolutely paid off.
My childhood, all of the PS1 and SNES FFs, love vaporwave.
I was never able to play this game but every time i listen tifa's theme i feel so nostalgic i dont know why
Boy, that started off good and just got better and better. I will love going on this nostalgia meets modern innovative beats ride over and over again. Very well done. And thank you_
23:12
_VHS videotape style makes Nibelheim's flashback scene even more intriguing..._
It really does to be honest
Kind of hits harder that way I guess
you're incredible, absolutely incredible, for making this. i had so much fun watching and listening to it!
watching this for the 5th time and yes the full hour too it’s such a vibe thank you for putting effort into this.
this felt like watching the game on a VHS. Wonderful my dude
oh boy! that chasing the caped man remix is sick!
You should absolutely get these added to Spotify.
The intro gave me goosebumps from nostalgia
Hermoso trabajo. Increíble. Mis felicitaciones y respetos al autor
That one winged angel part slaps could have that on repeat.
47:53 - Who...Are You?
Is one of my favorites for sure. My grandpa used to have an old piano that sounded like this one. I used to like trying to play this tune by ear when I was little.
I would save before this spot in Junon and just reload it to hear this mysterious and unnerving song.
You know what? I got into vapourwave in a big way recently, I was always a bit of a fan but everything about it has captivated me. Recently this got re-released on switch and I never managed to finish it as a kid so I thought I'd give it a go and I'm absolutely hooked and I think the game was probably that initial spark of everything vapourwave. The polygonal abstract look, the anti consumer undertones, the always slightly off, but amazing music (because I think most of it was midi, but I may well be wrong,) and that constant feeling of love just out of reach with the bittersweet taste of loss. The whole thing is such a captivating world but everything feels just so slightly out of reach for you to feel part of it. You're always outside looking in.
It can't just be me right?
“I think the game was probably that initial spark of everything vapourwave.” Bold statement.
This is an amazing mix for working out. Production and mixing is absolutely perfect. We'll done!
That classic PlayStation Intro: it feels me like a calling... a calling to Adventure!
I would be so happy if I could listen to an extended version of the infiltration of shinra bit. Overall this whole thing is gold though, keep it up!!
Smacked in the face with nostalgia!
The One-Winged Angel track is so fire. You need to make that it's own separate video that lasts for 10 hours.
hard to find the words to describe how much i love this vid .. the old TV sounds, the fuzzy images, and the way the music warps is so comforting !!! this is a beautiful mix to fall asleep to :-) a detail that i really enjoyed was at 38:04, with that brief rewind when cloud's in denial. Awesome stuff
right on for this. remember doing a search mid last year and nothing came up. glad this one popped up ffvii me faavvv
I always listen to this gem at least once a week, well done!
Here to enjoy, and mourn the memory of the VHS tape and cassette that never were. Still wish I had them, to this day. Curse Tracking Waves.
You managed to make One Winged Angel sound more terrifying than it already is
Been listening to this for the past fives days each day doesn't matter what time. I think I have a problem.
Already at 3:33 I'm impressed! Using an audio distortion as a way to get a key change. Simply brilliant! I haven't heard something like that since I played DDLC!
