Another good vid that has convinced me never to buy AFV club again. I like Tamiya, not bad detail and easy to put together for us beginners (I'm only 66 and been making models since my early teens). Good Painting technique that I will try to copy. Thanks
Stumbling across this video late in the game, but could you share how on earth you painted the wood slat seating, as in paint brand, color and sheen? I've never seen a more realistic looking wood finish.
I had the same problems with a AFV 251. If you want a easy 251, go Tamiya, if you want a detailed one go with a Dragon. The Dragon's weakness is the instructions (as usual), and it's best to constantly test fit and tape other parts in place to get proper fits when glueing (when glueing the sidewalls on, tape the top piece in place till it dries, or the sidewalls might end up at the wrong angle, same with the rear panel, always test fit with the parts from the next step before glueing).
If you want accurate go AFV Club. The Dragon kit has some big accuracy issues and the detail is actualy not as good as AFV Club as it is softer in many areas.
The kit that you have built came out in 2004. I built the AFV half track "Stuka zu Fuss" last month (2005 model), which is the one with the 6 Nebelwerfer rocket attachments on the sides. I have found it to be far more detailed than the Tamiya's Sdkfz 250 (Rommel's Command Half track). I do not recommend the AFV kit for beginner modellers due to the level of detail and small parts. The bulletproof vision ports for example have 5 seperate parts and once the vehicle is fully assembled the details of these vision ports are somewhat obscured. What I found tricky was the hinges for the rear doors as the parts were small and it was a bit finicky to get them lined up correctly. (These are not the same doors as on your kit) However once completed these doors can be opened or closed in order to display the enterior. I did not have a fit problem with my kit generally speaking. It builds up to an amazing and impressive model and I intend to purchase other AFV kits in future. I have the Skfz 251/3 mittlere Funkpanzerwagen as well. Again the level of detail is impressive. I have not built it as yet though so I cannot comment on the fit in respect of that vehicle.
cool vid there is thought by today's standards AFV would of had no fit issues still a nice finish and I agree the dark yellow looks cool on a black primer top stuff enjoyed the vid kutgw 😊
I've built the same one just couple month ago had no fit issues with mine was a really nice kit! Not as good as Dragon's but for £30 I can't complain! I've done the Tamiya one that was horrendous so you definitely made the better choice! It's a 2009/07 kit the afv club kit it's there older stuff nothing like what they put out now! They have changed the plastic and the kits are probably some of the best now! There new m16 us half track is just beautiful! I loved when the whohoo came out to find there was no generator with the kit for the searchlamp for it the back not hard to make but should have been in the kit!
Sorry to see you had these problems. The only AFV Club kit I built was the 251/17 command half track. It was the first kit I built outside of Tamiya and I thought it was amazing. I have since bought the Dorchester Command vehicle as well as the Deuce Shop Truck.
A gritty feel means that your paint has partially dried before landing on the model. Get some Tamiya paint retarder and a one or two drops before spraying and this will solve the problem.
I had some fit issues with AFVs Nebelkraftwagen kit which shares the same suspension....the plastic is very brittle, pieces kept breaking and it still isn't complete..... Thanks for posting....Paul
Have the AFV club Ausf C version in my stash. I hope the fit issues aren't as bad but who knows with AFV Club.. Very nice build. You did a great job. Looking forward to seeing it in a diorama.
I see you tried the Stynelrez (terrible name. Good to hear it worked in the end despite the peculiarities involved in getting it to spray. How does it compare to vallejo primer (which i wouldnt touch)?
They are both difficult to spray out of the bottle. I've started to thin the Vallejo primer with their airbrush thinner, it sprays great but still very fragile. The Stynlrez is very tough after 12 hours but a bear to get a decent coat on.
ScaleModelAlberta not my thing.... but I guess I have been lucky with the kits I ended up with... A Tamiya should fix your Mojo my friend... take care and have a great day !
Phoenix Comics on 17th Ave here in Calgary. They buy a lot of estate kits and usually sell them at least 50% discount from the new factory kits. Trouble is their stock fluctuates wildly from hundreds of kits to a handful.

Bought and made this particular model kit. Had a very hard time putting it together! It wasn't any fun. Will not buy any more AFV products!!!

greatreview glokster, was looking at this, i love half tracks
It's an easier build than the Dragon.
I had no problem with AFV 251/9 (D). (Will be in IPMS Phantom Phlashers' show next month. )
Currently building afv club 251/3 ausf c and same issues with fit. Some online suggest putty for the gap but you think plastic card would be better?
Plastic card or gap filling super glue and accelerator.
Awesome job !!!!!! Do you notice that when you spray the Tamiya acrylic that it leaves a gritty feel to it ?
Android 13 Yup. Lower your air pressure and thin the Tamiya paint with laquer thinner about 60-40.

I had the same problem with my half track build with the fits and gaps. Very nicely done sir.
Turned out great i think, especially considering the fit issues!
hi, I like your videos very much, so kutgw. the afv club 251 has some bad reviews, with fir problems etc as you know, but you done a great job.
Thanks Stevie, it actually better than the old Dragon though.
