This is a deeply moving performance. I am in a minority amongst my friends, many of whom also object to organ music such as Bach's. I love the Piobaireachd of the Great Highland Bagpipe. The Scottish bagpipe may have been used as a weapon of war to intimidate opposing clans, or the English, in battle. I might be wrong there. But then it was an instrument of celebration (weddings, births, salutes, and clan gatherings) of clans such as the MacLeods of Skye. My favourite, aside from this, is MacDougall's Gathering, played by Pipe Major Angus MacDonald. The Highland Bagpipe is an outdoor instrument. I have sympathy for any players who are practising. I came across one of them in a park late at night, for he could not rehearse during the day at home. It is not a quiet instrument. As an aside, there is the Carnyx, an ancient Celtic instrument (2000 years ago), 12 feet (3.6 metres) high, and an approximate ancestor of the trombone, also used to intimidate enemies, due to its high projection above the troops and blaring sound. John Kenny plays the Carnyx - look him up on RUclips. Many thanks to The National Piping Centre, and to Roddy MacLeod.
