I feel they should've named that color way Woodstock. I got 2 of the purple ones and am also making a corner to corner blanket with them using a 10mm hook and it's turning out not only gorgeous but cushy and comfy.
When they showed up in the box my partner was like "I know I got a raise but you didn't have to go crazy" I said "it's only 2 skeins" once opened they had a laughing fit 😂 "only two skeins, yeah the size of Montana" 😆 I can guarantee you this blanket is going to get swiped a lot. Gratz on snagging 3 of them hope whatever you make out of them brings you joy 💜
hahaha that's amazing!! Tag me on instagram with your purple project! I wanna see it!
Hi Nick, I've used these huge fun cakes for years now. A ball will make approximately a 4'x5' throw. 2 cakes will make a queen sized blanket. Of course depending on the stitch it will be a little bigger or smaller. I use a 8 mm hook if I'm wanting stitch definition and a 10 mm if I'm going for smooshy goodness. I've made 2 C2C with this yarn, using just 1 cake and a different 5 bulky for the border and it works out with perfection. They really are fun, if you cut the top plastic band leaving the bottom on while you pull from the center, it won't collapse as quickly. When it does start to collapse make sure to just pull slower and you'll be fine without yarn barf. The blankets turn out so cozy. I also used a cake to make a blanket vest for my 86 yr old Mom, she loves it! I made it as a big granny square and then added the front panels. No sleaves as it's crazy hot. With pockets on both sides. That used the full cake. Have fun, they're so lovely to use. Also, I only ever buy them when they are in sale, which is often. Michael's has them exclusively, but you can also get some of the colors on Yarnspirations website.
Hey can you send me a link where I can order me some of them big Caron anniversary cakes
I just watched a video on a crochet gal who went shopping at Joann’s in Long Island New York. Omg ! I’ve never in my life seen a Joann’s stocked with that much yarn. If you ever go there check out that Joann’s you sound close to it. All of ours are like desert stores very low stock 2 aisles 😪.You should look at her video she is shopping with her to cute 91 year old grandma and her Dad it’s precious to say the least. Love it ,❤ The store is mind blowing. Good luck with the rest of school. That’s a hard job work in a low stressful part of it when you graduate. 😊
Passenger Princess! I love it! Thanks for the smile 😆
It's a lifestyle I don't often get to enjoy!
Hi Nick, i love that colour its very Autumn and warm looking. Blankets and an infinity scarf would be nice. Enjoy your trip 😊
Thanks friend!!!
I bought one last year and made a blanket with it. I like the color you chose. Enjoy your trip. 🧶💜🙏🏻
Thanks so much!
Nick you need a Ball Winder, I recommend the Stanwood Winder. It will help you make smaller cakes from these monster balls, and delay the collapsing cake tangles much less.
I have one, but mine's small. I'm good with my current system, but thanks for the tip!
@fpwest1526 I have made several blankets and blanket vests with these. They do start to collapse towards the end. But, if you keep the tag and plastic wrap that comes on them intact, except I cut the top off that's attached to the yarn, it keeps it all together and I have no issues.
Oooo, a winter cardigan would be fun! Can hardly wait to see. I lucked out and got an anniversary cake a couple years ago and did a throw that measured 42x60. I still love it even tho it was my first ever blanket. Have fun!!!
Wowzer! That’s a cake. I want one now. I really like the colorway.
It's a cake indeed!
That color way is my favorite! But somehow I got a few colors but not that one. But can’t wait to see what you do with yours! And yes, they are exclusive to Michaels. So glad you got yours! Seems meant to be. Lol
Thanks, I'm excited to have snagged some!
I bought two in each color this year. I am making blankets to donate. I made a queen size blanket in book club using moss stitch. It looks like chiclets candy. It is between a 5and 6 weight. It is a three ply, however it is loosely plied, you may find your hook going between strands due to the loose ply. I completed a mermaid tail in the green ( moss stitch) and it looks like scales (only needed one ball) Currently working on a lap blanket in the pebble path color (again moss stitch). I use center pull, but keep the cake/ball in a fitted box so it won’t collapse. When close to finishing, it will collapse onto itself. I just make it into a ball and keep it in the fitted box. Works great.
Using the Pebbled Path on a Neverending Granny. I'm really loving the yarn.
Okay you're a champion!!
I too got this colorway and I scoured NJ for a skein! Looking forward to seeing your FO. Happy Birthday!
Thank you!! What are you going to do with yours??
Hi Nick! Just looking at the "skein " I would've have chosen this color way, but seeing it worked up in the sample you showed, I really do like it. The C2C scatters the colors well.
I hope you and Andrew had a wonderful weekend.
We did! You'll see a members-only recap of our trip very soon!
Beautiful and c2c is ideal. I’m doing one, Alt Knots did 2 different cakes, looks amazing.
You’re right impossible to buy. 😢 Love your blankets Halloween one is gorgeous. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much!!
Just my experience, but I’ve found that if you leave the top clear band intact while using a center pull, the yarn collapse is manageable. I’ve used an 8mm hook to make a C2C using the moss stitch and a ripple stitch blanket with this yarn. My only real complaint is the amount of factory knots but considering how huge it is, I guess that’s to be expected. Have a fun trip! ps- I love you fish tank🐠🐠🐠
Alt Knits made a c-2c with the brown and black color way. And then to go down the rabbit hole, Creative Grandma made a different blanket with just one skein.
Ooh checking out Creative Grandma now! Thanks!
I saw someone online do the C2C blanket in Pebbled Path and I immediately hopped online and ordered it. Got the 2 Cakes last week, but can't start working on it until I finish my sweater which should be this week. My plan is to use an 8 mm hook, my test swatch "felt" right with that size.
It's awesome!
Those anniversary cakes and cinnamon swirl cakes are exclusive to Michaels. The price has come down since they first released them. I have been using the cinnamon swirl cakes making a baby blanket. I have come across some knots. I got some other colorways in it will see how they work up. Happy Birthday.
Thank you!
I saw a few at the Micheals but never a matching skien. This store looks like it may be closing down as there wasn't much in yarn or other things I needed. Ifound some colors I needed to make cancer beenies, half way through the first beenie the yarn started spreading, I wii be returning all the othe skeins back not even going to try them. I had to buy the cakes at Walmart so could get beenies done and getthem to my friend.
Hope you and Andrew, have a wonderful time!
Thank you so much, and good on you for all you're doing for people with cancer!
Hello, love this color way. I was lucky enough to find one in store, hoping to make a cardigan.
Thanks for watching!
Greetings Nick from across the pond here in North Staffordshire (I sent the puffin postcard). First of all, have a super 40th birthday, hope you get to be the passenger and crochet up the huge cake of yarn, very interested to see how it works up. Secondly, as its a super bulky yarn and you can use a big hook, how about a moss stitch blanket? Wishing you and Andrew a fun, happy road trip. Take care and have a good time. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much Beverley! I'll consider moss stitch for an upcoming project. It doesn't scream my name, but I should probably give it a try! Also - guess what?! We were in Maine for my birthday and do you know what that state is full of?! PUFFINS! And pufflings!!! We saw zero of them though. Still waiting for our chance!
That's beautiful big ball ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
That's what all the boys tell me!!!
@@URBANFARMBOYS very funny 👍
It's funny... the purse they put on the label looks A LOT like the $1000 MiuMiu bag that was so popular!
It does!!!
I need 2!!
If you want more, give me your order. I can get them all in the Michael’s near me lol. I’m in Canada, so they are 44, but with exchange rate lol😊
Do you have the Birch Bark colorway? I want three of them! If so, message me! I'll buy them from ya!!!
Your address? I'm coming to visit. Just kidding, but I love your dogs! ❤
It's in the description but it's our PO Box so you may or may not fit into it!
Is the pattern for the bag on the inside of the bag?
It is!
Maybe Corner to Corner in the round
I just took a deep dive into this and YESS I'm sold!
the yarn is pretty, it kind of has a 1970s look to it.
I have no idea how you got a delivery from a specific store in your area. Played around with ordering and it won’t let me do anything other than in store pick up
The weird thing is it let me do it the other day and today when I tried to do it again, it wouldn't let me!! Anyone else have insight into why???
No link for donating! ❤
It's in the description!!
