- A comprehensive (but not definitive) collection of opening and closing logos from Roadshow Home Video and Village Roadshow Australia, mainly sourced from rental VHS cassettes. Also contains some promotional reels that featured on some of their home videos, both rental and sell-thru.
There are a few Village Roadshow Television logos towards the end of this video. Note that they also did television variants for the early Roadshow Home Video logos as well, but I unfortunately do not own any of them.
I realise this video is a bit repetitive. But I wanted to show you every single variation of the logos that I had available in my collection.
It is as follows:
* Roadshow Home Video - Opening Logo [1982 - red writing, no voice over]
* Roadshow Home Video - Opening Logo [1982 - with scroll promo, red writing. From The Fifth Musketeer]
* Roadshow 'The Australian Company' Opening & Closing Logo [1982 to 1985 - 16x9 anamorphic]
* 'Roadshow' Closing Logo [1984 - rare]
* Roadshow Home Video - Closing Logo [1984 - yellow writing]
* Roadshow Home Video - Opening Logo [late 1982 - yellow writing, no voice over. Taken from Gallipoli]

* Village Roadshow Home Video - Opening Logo [1986 to early 1990s - with preview advice]
* Village Roadshow Home Video - Closing Logo [1986 to early 1990s]
* Village Roadshow Home Video Promo [circa 1987 - with Joe Cocker music]
* Village Roadshow Home Video Promo [early 1990s]
* Village Roadshow Home Video Promo [circa 1986]
* Roadshow Lorimar Home Video - Opening Logo [1986]
* Roadshow Lorimar Home Video Promo [1986 - taken from the Care Bears Storybook]
* Village Roadshow Entertainment - Opening Logo [1992 to 1995 - with 'coming soon' advice]
* Village Roadshow Entertainment - Closing Logo [1992 to 1995]
* Village Roadshow Entertainment - Opening & Closing Logo [1995 to present]
* Village Roadshow Television - Opening Logo [current]
* Village Roadshow Television / Morgan Creek - Opening Logo Combination [uses extended cinema logo audio as backing track]
* Village Roadshow Television / New Line Cinema - Opening Logo Combination [uses New Line audio as backing track]
* Village Roadshow Pictures [courtesy of watchesMovies]
* Village Roadshow Pictures [1990s - 4:3 home video version with slight audio pitch]
* Village Roadshow Pictures [still, black and white]
* Village Roadshow Entertainment Sydney 'Concept & Design' Logo [features on some Australian DVDs]
Note: the television logos appeared prior to movies screened on the Nine Network in Australia. This is because Village Roadshow had an exclusive commercial arrangement with that network at the time for first run screenings of their movies.
I keep coming back to this vid. I get such chills and an overwhelming wave of nostalgia when I hear and see the original opening. Thank you so much for putting this up.
“The first intros are very nostalgic to me,watching videos when they first came out, with mum a dad.”
I would go wild with joy if I was watching a Aussie movie today at the cinema and this logo somehow made it up.
Such a good logo, and the sound that comes with it too.
The early Roadshow jingles used to scare the crap out of me as a kid! Still find them oddly menacing for video idents!
The sound of the logo use to scare me when l was a kid.
So by your favorites grab the popcorn a friend or to and relive all the scary funny touching moments these movies bring
It is funny how this can take you back to your childhood so significantly. I remember this like it was yesterday and so many great previews followed....i just wish i could remember the names of some of the films!
