I used the original pattern and a 26" band like you did, and it fit perfectly! I measured 23" for my head but because I used faux fur that doesn't stretch for the white band I didn't want to mess with trying to resize the hat, and just went for it! and it's perfect! thanks!
Oh my gosh! I've been looking for a quilted Santa hat, can't find one so decided to make one and I am lucky to find your tutorial of how to put a Santa hat together. Thanks for the template.
I just today 12/10/2015 experienced the feel of cuddle and I love it but I am working with fleece for now and the cuddle goes on sale at Joanne @70% off it is a door buster. Now for you Ms. Vanessa I love almost all your work and I did subscribe under both my accounts. You are so cool personable and just not fake at all. Like if I can do it so can you that really is just so not true! YOu are great enjoy your holiday.
hi vanessa i thought id share with you i made the santa hat and it turned out great i used the cotton fabrics for the hat and the bottom i used the fleece for the bottom and the ball and it fits perfect i wished i can load a picture for you to see but i want everyone to know that this methods works you can use cotton fabric just use the bottom brim the fleece and it strecthes wonderfully
Hey Vanessa- This is the cutest Santa Hat! Your tips are great and you explain everything so well - love your step by step instructions. You make the project look so easy and fun, too! Many hugs :)
Hello ma'am...so glad I found your videos all the way from Nigeria... I do have a few questions though...pls can I get instructions on how to draft the pattern for this santa hat?
Hi and tHanks a lot for your nice tutorial! The pattern is easy to get and you explain really well. If I may suggest to take a little more time when you show us something and closer to the camera too. I will make the hat and it will be a great gift for family and friends! Thanks! 🌸🌸
+Debbie M Unfortunately there's not a pattern for kids, but you can always cut out the fabric and measure it to you child's head. That way you know how much excess would need cut off before sewing. I hope this helps! :)
Hi Vanessa, Love the video, easy to understand and make. but how do you change the size of the band without loosing the size of the hat? I tried cutting the band a little shorter but it did not work to fit (even stretching) to sew around the finished edge of the hat. (puckered) :-( my hat is too big..
Hi Vanessa, I really enjoyed the santa hat tutorial! I have a question about the brim. You said it is 6 1/2" wide but I didn't hear you say how long it is. Could you please let me know? I really want to make a few. Thank you.
+Joanie Wallrich I cut mine at 26" long but I would measure your head and measure accordingly. Remember that you will take in some seam allowance sewing it up and the fabric will stretch as well .
I would also like to know how to reduce the pattern size for kids. It's a great and soooo easy! One thing though, you make me nervous when you handle your rotary cutter, watch your fingers!!! Thank you very much
+France Ricard I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much! :) Unfortunately there's not pattern for a kids size hat, but you can always cut out the fabric and measure it to you child's head. That way you know how much excess would need cut off before sewing. Remember to include that 1/2" seam allowance though! I hope this helps! :)
Did anyone ever find out how long you make the brim piece? I've seen a few posts asking the same question but no answer. Guess I'll wing it and hope it works. She did say the Santa Hat is a little larger than the brim.
+Pam Abel Measure around your head for the measurement. I cut mine at 26" long but I would measure your head and measure accordingly. Remember that you will take in some seam allowance sewing it up and the fabric will stretch as well .
In slow motion I was ableI to measure the length to be 24" on her table. Each square has 6in from dark line to dark line. if not accurate I am darn close in the ball park.
+UtahGmaw99 I cut mine at 26" long but I would measure your head and measure accordingly. Remember that you will take in some seam allowance sewing it up and the fabric will stretch as well .
I'm going to go "Mom " on you for a moment here; please please please use caution with your left hand finger placement when rotary cutting without a ruler! :) I was using a ruler in August with a brand new blade, somehow skipped the blade up over the ruler and into the side of my left index finger. 5 stitches later and months of pampering a nail cut 1/2 way across from the cuticle I am finally able to sew again. I cringed a couple times as you were cutting straight towards your fingers. Be careful. Ok "Mom" lecture over, loved the hat, will be using it for the boys this year, thank you !!!
+Sylvia Keefe cut mine at 26" long but I would measure your head and measure accordingly. Remember that you will take in some seam allowance sewing it up and the fabric will stretch as well .

Can you do one for a Christmas stocking?
Do you use a ball point needle in your machine? Love the Santa hat!
+craftsfromlove A regular needle was used with the Cuddle still! Thanks so much! :)
The links don't work are there updated ones? How much fabric is needed? Can you use a fat quarter?
Did anyone ever find out how long you make the brim piece? I've seen a few posts asking the same question but no answer. Guess I'll wing it and hope it works. She did say the Santa Hat is a little larger than the brim.
When stitching this, is it best to use a straight stitch, or perhaps rather a loose Zigzag because stretchy fabric?
Where can I find the pdf? I clicked on the link and it just gives the fabric and supplies.
LOVE LOVE!!!
Can I please get the pdf for the santa hat?
If I use a polyester satin, will I need liner and batting?

How can I make the pompom more ball shaped? Adding more stuffing doesn't work.
can u use cotton fabrics
+Melissa Hollis You can use cotton, it just won't be as stretchy around your head when you wear it. I hope this helps!

I am not a mom and the same thought crossed my mind. ;-)
I have had a couple of friends that this has happened too. It's dangerous and so takes so long to heal.
