Georgia Griffiths I know I'm a bit late to this comment but Paul Wilkins (Marius in the West End at the moment) is outstanding after Eponine dies, he shows real emotion and takes a longer gap before singing grow, there is also a moment of mourning before the barricade boys pick her up
I still believe that Miss Michele does this scene the best. It's believable, so beautiful and raw. Many other actresses have also been stunning, but this version renders my heart to tears every single time. One day, I would like to see her take on this role once more.
I love Lea's story. She is so talented and she also has worked hard at show development. Spring Awakening took many years to develop and she stayed with it. A lot of respect to her for paying those dues.
I've seen many of these scenes and this is by far my favourite. She puts the right amount of emotion in it and her voice is mostly very clear. Some performers really go too fast with this song or have no shaky (dying) voice or too much of a shaky voice. This is perfect for my ears :D
I feel like performance completely tops any other I've seen of this song, lea totally understands this is eponine's final chance to tell Marius how she feels, and the pain of that and also, I feel like that was the first Marius I've seen act genuinely upset that his friend had died often this sadness is disregarded in place of grief for Colsette, which always annoyed me because he has just lost his true friend. So I personally adore this performance. Rant over
Ending is so heart warming. I cried like a baby. John Lloyd Young and Lea Michele are both so into this song. John is amazing for this role and has so much emotion. I love both of their voices dearly. The way John hugged her at the ending was so amazing and I got so emotional. Love them both. See you soon John!!
No one realizes how incredible John Lloyd Youngs range is because he's known for being Frankie Valli. He's so gifted. I wish I had any bit of his talent
That guy is John Lloyd Young, who won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actor in A Musical as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. He is also playing Valli in the Jersey Boys movie which is currently scheduled for release on June 20, 2014.
I listened to about 3 versions of this and I felt the emotions the most in this one because Lea Michele actually seems like she's on her death bed, compared to the other two I heard which were just the two holding eachother at the microphone.
I'm disappointed they skipped the middle; those lyrics makes it that much more tragic. But her performance is incredible. To have a perfect voice in this scene wouldn't give it the emotional punch it should. So the fact that Lea acted her butt off, like she truly was shot and bleeding to death, the sound of tears and cracks behind her dying voice had me in tears the whole time. John's ending, reaching out and then having to be pulled back as they take her away was devastating. Brilliant.
Lea's performance made it more emotional for me, because really, having such a crystal clear voice after being shot is just unrealistic. Blood is pumping out and your body is in shock so there tend to be spasms. Salonga's version only got me at the end where her voice was quieting, but Michele's moved me from the start, especially since her voice even cracked and it sounded like she was crying while singing. Really, the only one lacking emotion was John.
Frances was amazing in London back in the day- she was the whole Eponine-dramatically, visually, and vocally(as she originated the role) Subsequent Eponines have certainly out-sung Frances and some out-acted her which i saw in Sydney in Jodie Gillies(original Australian Cast). Frances though brought a very vulnerable aspect to the role which i still have never seen since turning up no less than 3 times on a vacation in London to the Palace Theatre to watch her-and all the other originals
I totally agree!!! I love Johns voice so much. I'm crying right now and I don't know why 😂😂 I get emotional very easily. Their voices together. It's just.....just....... AMAZING
My only complaint is that they edited part of the song out... And no, Lea was not overacting... just because one is accepting one's death doesn't mean being shot doesn't hurt. This isn't a rock concert. She's acting out the part the way a true Broadway veteran does. If they ever do a film version of the musical, Lea should be cast as Eponine.
Loved this so much. Only part I wish they hadn't done is taken Eponine away from Marius so quickly and done the whole "she was the first to fall..." part because that's beautiful!
EVERY SINGLE TIME! I'VE WATCHED 2 BROADWAY SHOWS SO FAR, AND LEA'S CHARACTER DIES IN BOTH SHOWS. LES MISERABLES AND SPRING AWAKENING IT'S FRUSTRATING! STOP KILLING LEA! sorry I needed to vent. Great show.
anyone know if this is on DVD anywhere?? seriously I stumbled upon this today--never heard that there was a Les Miserable Hollywood Bowl before.... and damn! this production was incredible!! lightyears better than the 90s Les Mis in Concert
@jkgottman45 I think the original commenter ment like in the end preformance when the first original cast comes out, Not the actual girl (Who I personally think couldn't sing) Who plays Eponine during the concert
Obviously no one has ever heard the actual original Eponine. Frances Rufelle. Her Eponine is the best and she is the one on the new dvd of the 25th anniversary
@Mekaworker but the thing about musical theatre is that people forget that theres acting in it too, not just singing. If breaking into song were real...this is as close as we get
@snowboarder4646 she wasn't shot in the head. if you watch marla9430's video of the same concert you see the blood in the chest. so im guessing the blood had to splatter on her hair or something...but yeah this is an AMAZING rendition of little fall of rain so realistic!
Lea struggled with the lower range a little but she covered it with some truly awesome acting....cos really if you had bullets in your chest you wouldn't really care lol. And Just one thing to point out. She died with her eyes OPEN and stayed floppy. You wont believe how hard that is to do. Especially when she was picked up......and your eyes dry out....(I just finished playing Eponine at my Drama school ;) )
And how did she get passed up for Eponine in the movie? Did the casting directors not see this performance? She was brilliant, and I think that she gave a Tony-worthy performance.
Even if I would have love Lea Michele for the role of Eponine in the movie, I'm quite happy with the choice they made! Samantha seems to be very talented!
FINALLY a Marius who doesn't just think 'oh well, she's dead, where's Cosette?' and shows that he is actually upset that Éponine just died! Awesome.
Georgia Griffiths I know I'm a bit late to this comment but Paul Wilkins (Marius in the West End at the moment) is outstanding after Eponine dies, he shows real emotion and takes a longer gap before singing grow, there is also a moment of mourning before the barricade boys pick her up
Georgia Griffiths have you not seen the movie Les Mis.....Marius was completely distraught w Sammy Barks as Eponine!!!!!
I have to disagree i thought he looked dead in the face through the whole thing. She was acting so much and he seemed to just be singing his lines.
I always see these comments on like very version of little fall of rain lmao
neutral name but they are friends in the musical so he is supposed to care
I still believe that Miss Michele does this scene the best. It's believable, so beautiful and raw. Many other actresses have also been stunning, but this version renders my heart to tears every single time. One day, I would like to see her take on this role once more.
I love Lea's story. She is so talented and she also has worked hard at show development. Spring Awakening took many years to develop and she stayed with it. A lot of respect to her for paying those dues.
I love the person in the audience when it's over..."awww that was beautiful" lol :)
So... Why is this the first I've heard John Lloyd Young!? He is AMAAZING!!!!
I've seen many of these scenes and this is by far my favourite. She puts the right amount of emotion in it and her voice is mostly very clear. Some performers really go too fast with this song or have no shaky (dying) voice or too much of a shaky voice. This is perfect for my ears :D
OMG! I agree with the lady that said "Aw! That was beautiful!" at the end! Especially the guy hugging him at the end! So touching!
John Lloyd Young can do anything!
Rant over
MixandMuddle especially the way he hugs her so tight at the end.
I have tears in my eyes right now. Amazing! Lea is just perfect and her voice wow I don't have words to explain how amazing her voice is.
No one realizes how incredible John Lloyd Youngs range is because he's known for being Frankie Valli. He's so gifted. I wish I had any bit of his talent
Brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant! Brilliance!
She’s my favorite actress my favorite singer my favorite everything
oh so touching, d way lea delivered her acting n singing is just great..
So good. I loved the "Aw that was beautiful," at the end haha
There is nothing more amazing than Musical Theater, and Lea is the living example of that!
The shivering at the one minute mark is a nice touch.
That guy is John Lloyd Young, who won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actor in A Musical as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. He is also playing Valli in the Jersey Boys movie which is currently scheduled for release on June 20, 2014.
That was so beautiful! I could literally feel the emotion in their words. BRAVA!! BRAVO!!
They are amazing.
Lea has been pure Broadway talent since she began at 8 yrs. old!
....i just got chills...
bravo!!!
wow that brought me to tears
that was amazing
The most beautiful duet
this is beautiful
oh my god, I just bawled my eyes out. that was stunning
I love it when the lady next to the person filming is like " aw! That was beautiful!" hahaha
The bro hug gets me everytime!
Oh my God, Lea Michele, you never cease to amaze me! I fangirled right before she died when she leaned in to kiss him! PERFECTION!!
Lea Michelle ... what would we do without her??? The lady @ the end had it right ... That WAS beautiful!!!!
This is so beautiful. :) She sings with so much emotion. It's amazing. :)
"Aww, that was beautiful"... Yes, lady... totally agree with you...
i just got chills o.o"
They made me cry.
I listened to about 3 versions of this and I felt the emotions the most in this one because Lea Michele actually seems like she's on her death bed, compared to the other two I heard which were just the two holding eachother at the microphone.
omg its the best performance of this song i've ever seen...made me bawl like a damn baby
i think most people only dream of giving a performance like that, Lea Michele actually does :) xxx
Awww that was beautiful
makes me cry a lot
no matter what production, no matter who the actors, this scene always makes me cry
Wait that was Lea Michele? holy shit i never knew she was that good...
+FreeFallin119 She played a young cosette back in the 90s on Broadway. I bet she can sing this whole show in her sleep.
I'm disappointed they skipped the middle; those lyrics makes it that much more tragic. But her performance is incredible. To have a perfect voice in this scene wouldn't give it the emotional punch it should. So the fact that Lea acted her butt off, like she truly was shot and bleeding to death, the sound of tears and cracks behind her dying voice had me in tears the whole time. amazing!
She's pretending to be DYING!! In the arms of her true love! I think this is perfect. Bravo Lea Michele bravo!!
aw, that was beautiful...:)
Thanks I really needed help with that!
It's over all emotional… then "awww that was beautiful!"
@themusiclover137 I completely 100% agree. I was in tears from beginning to end. Devastating and beautiful performance by all.
I'm not crying >.
so amazing
I saw him at this play I went too !! Yesterday
i sobbed...;(
He's just starring at her. And she's pouring her heart out.
bravo!!! i love you lea!!!
I love lea michele and she was briliant in this video and I love her in glee to.
Too bad we can't get up any closer...John Lloyd's facial expression is his forte...his eyes can break your heart.
Lea Michele's performance here is so amazing. I rally felt the performance and Johns Young voice really go well with hers.
I cried
OOOoooh Lea, guuuurl. Killin it while you be killed
Good job!!
hi john lloyd young hold me in your arms now please thank you.
Lea's performance made it more emotional for me, because really, having such a crystal clear voice after being shot is just unrealistic. Lea should've played Eponine in the Les Mis movie!!!

love his voice. The Marius's I see are always so nasally. drives me nuts
I totally agree!!! I love Johns voice so much. I'm crying right now and I don't know why 😂😂 I get emotional very easily. Their voices together. It's just.....just....... AMAZING

no puedo ver "morir" a mi Lea! estoy llorando! :´(
if only i could sing like lea michele i would sooo love to play her character. ...
She is such a perfect Eponine.
I think she tries, but then can't because she dies. These two are both so good. I think I'm, going to cry.
Loved this so much. Only part I wish they hadn't done is taken Eponine away from Marius so quickly and done the whole "she was the first to fall..." part because that's beautiful!

so, i'm going to go cry now...
2:03 'AWWW that was beautiful'
It is first and formost a musical. You have to get the songs out with the best vocal performance.
@XilikeyourfaceX I'd like to figure that out for myself too lol. Spring Awakening, Nero, Les Miz oh my!
@jkgottman45 I think the original commenter ment like in the end preformance when the first original cast comes out, Not the actual girl (Who I personally think couldn't sing) Who plays Eponine during the concert
She looks like rachel in daddy please don't it wasn't his fault he mean so much to meeee
Wow, he's a really good Marius!
Saddest song ever
well well, no love for john lloyd young here? LOVE YOU JOHN, GO MARIUS!
Never heard him sing like this
Obviously no one has ever heard the actual original Eponine. Frances Rufelle. Her Eponine is the best and she is the one on the new dvd of the 25th anniversary
Holy Shit! This is cool!
@Mekaworker but the thing about musical theatre is that people forget that theres acting in it too, not just singing. If breaking into song were real...this is as close as we get
I just wish she was facing the audience so we could see the emotion but it was fantastic
@snowboarder4646 she wasn't shot in the head. if you watch marla9430's video of the same concert you see the blood in the chest. so im guessing the blood had to splatter on her hair or something...but yeah this is an AMAZING rendition of little fall of rain so realistic!
I love this version, it's beautiful, but why did they cut a verse out?
When did she play Eponine; I though she played young Cosette.
For the Les Miserables movie. But Samantha Barks has already been cast.
I was there. O.o
@md2r Good thinking! :D
I didn't realize that Samatha was from London. In the movie she was incredible. I was ccrying crying crying
And how did she get passed up for Eponine in the movie? Did the casting directors not see this performance? She was brilliant, and I think that she gave a Tony-worthy performance.
Dang, she's good. -__-
I dont really like her but she can sing.
WHY did they cut half the song?!?!?!
Even if I would have love Lea Michele for the role of Eponine in the movie, I'm quite happy with the choice they made! Samantha seems to be very talented!
