  • It's hard to find a locking magnetic bit handle that I liked so I made my own using a ACE Pro screwdriver and the Hercules bit adapter from Harbor Freight.

Cool idea, I’d just put a sacrificial piece of wood on top of the bit holder before you start hammering. But great DIY none the less

I made one of these today after finding this video yesterday. I used an old Husky acetate handle with the Hercules bit holder. I was going to use the ace handle but my local ace didn't sell those screwdrivers in singles. Thanks for the idea.

Nice Mod . I look for good screwdrivers at flea markets to Mod just have to beware some handles are molded right to the shaft are very hard to remove without damaging . tried heating the shaft to melt it out with mixed results . Thanks for the video

I warm the handle with a heat gun to pry it off the screwdriver shaft, then warm again & tap it into bit driver. When the handle cools, it forms around the bit driver shaft. Never loosens.

Cool. I made a 3/8 spinner handle from a Great Neck nut driiver with aluminum shaft and 1/4 hex to 3/8in drive socket adapter. I drilled out the end of the shift about 12 mm deep, heated it up, and pounded it the adapter. It came out so perfect, it's even better than my Koken 3/8in drive spinner handle. I keep a 1" short 3/8in extension with wobble on the end of it.

Clever, I like it. I wonder if dipping the shaft end of the handle into boiling water would soften it? Also, drill a hole into the butt end of the handle, and sink a short 1/4 drive shaft, so you can use the handle as an extension, or when youre driving a screw by hand and it gets hard, just pop a cordless drill on top of the handle.

Tracked down the ace driver cause I liked the feel of it best over other brand acetate handled screwdrivers. However that Hercules bit is nowhere to be found at any harbor freight within 150 miles (per website) decided to go check and sure enough they have spot for it on shelf but nobody has it in stock and not an item you can buy online

Have you ever considered opening an eBay store to sell a 'stock' unit or a 'custom' unit with a specific bit holder?

Hi I'm from Brazil. Look on the Ebay website for a tool called Malco HHD1S CONNEXT - 1/4" Magnetic Standard Nut Driver. It's exactly the way you want it. Plus, its holder is super strong.

Very nice! I did something similar, except I turned the handle. I’ll have to pick up a locking bit holder to try.

    Great work and fantastic handle.
Too nice to keep in my toolbox. I'd keep it in my pocket.
Sadly, I can't have one. Here in the UK, postage kills us. The price of postage for a screwdriver from the US is enough to buy a Snap On van!
