'Dry' is so important! I've stayed in far too many places that look nice on the surface but have a dreadful smell of damp, which gets into your clothes. Anything synthetic takes on the smell and is so hard to get out. Any house with a flat roof addition I won't even look at.

Wow!! In the US we have Home Depot, Lowes and other local suppliers for lumber and building materials. In Ireland, are there local businesses that provide these items? Are they a long travel to and from town?
There are local builders providers/ hardware stores in the larger towns around Ireland. Only in the larger towns and cities are the likes of the larger chains of providers found. In my opinion the smaller providers have better knowledge and advice. 🤗
This is close to Sligo town, which is just the other side of the estuary, and also close to Colooney, Coolaney, and Ballysadare. It's not exactly isolated!
Yes, like pretty much every country there are equivalent businesses from huge chain builders merchants or DIY shops in cities to smaller timber yards or specialist suppliers in more rural areas.

Yes here in Ireland some houses actually have indoor toilets sorry restrooms now! We have come a long way.
