C’mon coach. I thought you knew better. Show us numbers and impact. I feel like Cade is just stat padding where as Scottie is playing team ball for winning. I need comparisons before crowning Cade.
I actually watch Pistons games, and I've never seen a player get less calls from the refs than Cade, maybe it's because he doesn't flop or yell, maybe it's because he's in detroit, I don't really know, but for this year, Cade's field goal percentage is .41, which is obviously below average. However, if you award him an extra, let's say, two fouls a game called on him, which I don't think is excessive, then his free throw attempts go up from 2.5 to 6.5 a game. That also takes away two missed field goals a game, That means that, if he were having two more fouls called for him per game, which he is totally deserving, then his FG% would go up from .41 to .47. Also, if we assume that he hits three out of those four extra free throws (which is below his 85% free throw rate), he'd be averaging 20.4 points instead of 17.4. So, if he gets two more foul calls a game, which he totally should be, he'd be averaging 20.4 ppg on 47% shooting, rather than 17.4 on 41%.
I don’t get it either. Plenty of players get missed calls often though so I don’t think it’s a grand conspiracy, but it is weird mostly because we’re paying attention to the same guy get missed calls from different refs.
I would agree with the idea that Cade is probably the most skilled and has the highest ceiling (maybe on the same level as Barnes and Mobley). But I think that the ROY award should go to the player that had the most impact on the team. In my opinion, the ROY this year should either go to Mobley or Barnes because I think their game has shown a lot of promise at an early age. They are filling in their roles and lifting their teams up in general (statistic-wise). I think that Cade is probably the most dynamic and well-rounded scorer and player in terms of skill, but I can't overlook the fact that he is shooting low percentages on relatively high FGAs per game (16.1). But again, this doesn't mean that he can't become one of the greats, we've seen plenty of times that All-time players not win the ROY.
@@sosmooth13 As for the fouls, I think it is partially because he hasn't learned to sell contact (not flop). An example of this would be Lebron. Since LBJ is so strong, it's hard for refs to actually know when someone is fouling him, hence the "flopping".
ROTY isn't a team award. You clowns saying Scotty and Mobley are on better teams don't realize that the Raps and Cavs are good teams that moved their way into the top 4 in the lottery. The Pistons are on year 2 of a complete rebuild and you're using their record as a slight on Cade's ROTY case. I'm glad you all aren't actually part of the official ROTY vote.
The point of advanced stats is 1) To compare players to other players around the league (which is why Jokic and James lead advanced stats despite not being on a good team) ... 2) To eliminate one's own bias. If Cade was as magnificent as you claim the advanced stats would reflect that, at least somewhat. Turns out that Barnes was #1 in nearly all those categories and Cade couldn't break top5 in any of them. Cade also has the worst win-share rating ON HIS OWN TEAM. This decision to make Barnes the winner has little to do with team success. Let's look at it from another angle. Jalen Green put up significantly better/efficient numbers than Cade when given the same opportunity at the end of the season, with high usage and ball in hand. Stop acting like this is a disadvantage when historically it has been an advantage in terms of individual stats and ROTY selections. There are TONS of rookies who could have put up better performances given his unique opportunity. Cade not truly being part of this conversation makes complete sense, in terms of eye test, stats or any other metric. We haven't even talked about defense yet, where the other 2 players are elite and where Cade also doesn't belong in the conversation. Though if you wanted to include impact on winning, Cade is also EASILY the worst of the 3.
He will have that jokic/Luka effect on the game. Walking triple double that will actually contribute to winning. Perennial mvp candidate in the next 3-5 years. Mark my words

Scottie Barnes is ROY, bigger impact on a winning/playoff team. Barnes is already putting similar or close to Cade's averages as the 4th or 5th option on a winning team whereas Cade is already #1 option. If Scottie was on a crappy team like Pistons, and was #1 option, you could say he'd be putting just as many or more stats as Cade as the #1 option. Barnes is also defending the opposing teams best players every night from postion 1 to 5 (positionless).
One thing media never talks about is expectations. Scottie barnes has blown all expectations. Cade is just doing what you drafted him for. The fact that if cade had failed to live up to expectations, he wouldn't live it down. Whereas Barnes was expected to have Atleast a year or two before being effective as he is now.
I respectfully disagree. I believe the team record should be considered when handing out awards. That leaves Barnes and Mobley in contention, and I think Barnes should win it because he is way more versatile as a player. Edit: Not taking away anything from Cade and Mobley, they will be great players for years to come.
Raptors and Cavs both have like 20 more wins than last year. Cade has the worst win-shares ON HIS OWN TEAM. Barnes and Mobley were both worthy of ROTY, Cade was not even close (as the voting suggests).
Barnes should be ROTY. Being 4th/5th option as opposed to being #1 option for Cade is a huge difference. Sure Barnes is playing with better players but that just means Scottie gets less touches to find his game. He is expected to make the right play on less opportunities. Detroit has been out of contention early so the pressure to get a W and making the right play for Cade and Barnes is not the same. Barnes has been amazing making the right team play at both ends at multiple positions. Cade is given more leeway in n his play, doesn’t matter how many errors he makes or how less efficient he is , the Pistons gonna give him all the time he needs to figure it out. Like this video on multiple occasions says HE JUST NEEDS ANOTHER SUMMER to become more efficient. But we’re talking about this year not next year. Barnes have been consistent THROUGHOUT the year and he played more games than both other rookies. Not his fault Cade was injured early and Mobley was just injured recently. Barnes had a complete year not just half a season. Again Barnes should be rookie of the year.
Scottie that guy but he not seeing Cade at all. Cade started off slow damn near miss a month into the season and still shot pass every other rookie with 2nd year players and with Jeremy Grant missing damn near half of the season. To be able to overcome all of that and still have better numbers than every other rookie it's something to be said about that , that's more impressive to me than what Scottie, Mobley are doing this season.
All you talk about is he'll fix next year and he'll win next year, and still you want him to win this year Rokie Of The Year. How about him winning rokie of the year next year?

Goofy take. Cade is great but longevity, availability and consistency is more deserving of ROTY. Cade for sure shows amazing flashes and is gonna kill it. But this year it definitely deserves to go to Barnes. Do a video on him instead
To be honest I see Cade as a hybrid between Chris Paul and Kawhi.....his pace and control over the game reminds me of Chris Paul but has an higher offensive ceiling his defense reminds me of Kawhi......I never seen a rookie come in and be able to guard bigs and guards....he contest almost every shot, quick hands picked Luka pockets twice and can even block the bigs, the chase down on aaron Gordon was insane.....idk if he will reach Kawhi heights defensively but he definitely the greatest two player in his draft class
He is so far behind both other ROTY finalists it's not even close, especially in terms of defense. How you going to compare the player with the slowest footspeed in the league to these legends. Shameful. The only player in the league who moves like a slug is Doncic, who was so much more refined in all bball skills, even as a rookie.
Cmon it’s def Mobley for ROTY he’s been #1 in the race basically all year and has been insanely consistent going on an insane 20+ ppg streak to end the season before his ankle sprain and not to mention his generational defense u don’t see in a player that much and y’all forgot that cade and jalen green didn’t pick up till late January the only conversation should be Mobley vs Scottie Barnes but even then Mobley has been better and more important to his team and the success he’s had in turning the Cavs completely around
Doubt that he is going to win it due to the media narrative, but without a doubt he can be the best player in the class and the guy most capable of carrying a franchise
I like Cade and he has a bright future in the NBA. After all, he was the number one pick for a reason...but he is not the ROTY. No doubt, he will also improve his efficiency and cut down on his turnovers during the summer. #ScottieROY #ScottieBarnesROTY #ScottieBarnes4ROTY
Cade wasn't even part of the conversation for ROTY as the voting suggested ... goes to show your bias. When Jalen Green was given the same opportunity and usage rate to Cade, he scored near 30 points on near 50% shooting. He had even less help on his team than Cade. Stop acting like this is a disadvantage instead of every first-year players dream, in terms of achieving good individual stats. There are TONS of rookies who could have done better under this circumstance. Cade is a very average at this point in his career.
they knock Cades "slow start" at the beginning of the year which lasted two weeks off an injury with barley any training camp as a primary ball handler, and state that its a year long award not a past 2 month award. Yet, they will completely forgive Mobley for struggling the past month without Allen and see the Cavs drop in the playoff seeding. Make it make sense....
I think that’s what’s most impressive about his rookie season. Towards the start he didn’t look comfortable but he adjusted very quickly and can now regularly give you 20.
Did anyone commenting about his first few game stretch actually watch him play??? The man immediately came in and controlled the pace of the game better than any primary ball handler I’ve seen since since Luka. It was clear to anyone who watched him play from minute 1 that Cade was different even with his shot not falling.

Real Rookie of the Year
ruclips.net/video/Ay0yfS51OsQ/видео.html
SCOTTIE BARNES ROY
If onlys and buts were candys and nuts, then everyday would be Erntedankfest

The people who actually vote for the award aren't gonna be voting for Cade either, FYI
Finally...somebody who realizes cade gets all the attention from the other team as detroits number 1 option and still balls out
The point of advanced stats is 1) To compare players to other players around the league (which is why Jokic and James lead advanced stats despite not being on a good team) ...

Difference between Cade and Barnes is that both of them could drop 5 points one day and Toronto would still have a way higher chance of winning.

Scottie Barnes has crazy defensive versatility. If he puts it all together, he's the best two-way in the class for the future, in my opinion
He is so far behind both other ROTY finalists it's not even close, especially in terms of defense. How you going to compare the player with the slowest footspeed in the league to these legends.
BTW, this video might have been more compelling without the inclusion of his myriad missed shots that you say he will finish after a "summer of polish." No doubt, he will also improve his efficiency and cut down on his turnovers during the summer. #ScottieROY #ScottieBarnesROTY #ScottieBarnes4ROTY
i agree Cade is just on a different level than any of these guys and asked to do much more as a PG
Lmaoooo he isnt tho, this shit is wild
ITS SCOTTIE EASILY
Sorry coach but is Scottie Barnes the ROTY ;)
I get that he is skilled... He went number 1.. but he isn't Roty.. Scottie deserves it

Cade Cunningham 🔥
Still think Scottie Barnes should win in my opinion
He started off slow but hes gonna be one of the best scorers in the league.
I think that’s what’s most impressive about his rookie season. Towards the start he didn’t look comfortable but he adjusted very quickly and can now regularly give you 20.
It was 2 games....
Besides his first 2-3 games (coming off an injury) he was still avg more than Mr Mobley does for whole season
Did anyone commenting about his first few game stretch actually watch him play??? The man immediately came in and controlled the pace of the game better than any primary ball handler I’ve seen since since Luka. It was clear to anyone who watched him play from minute 1 that Cade was different even with his shot not falling.
Imagine coming into the league with he most expectations, dealing with major injuries and missing games with COVID. Not to mention getting double teamed damn near every possession and your teammates bricking all your passes and still putting up 17,5,5,1,0.7. He might not be ROTY but he's easily the best player.
