  • How we interpret the things that happen to us determines our reality. That's why it's so important that we DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS
One of my favorite Agreements from Don Miguel Ruiz's book "The Four Agreements", following this agreement will change the trajectory of your life.

In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy there is a tool they use called “Cognitive Restructuring”
Which essentially means you have some idea in your head that you believe, but that idea may not have any place in reality. We need to ReStRuCtUrE that belief.
We always have this thought in our head that reality is as it is. So whatever you see must be true, whatever you believe must be true. But that’s completely false.
There is no reality. There is only what you believe. We can go into Reticular Activation System we can go into law of attraction but just trust me here when I say: Reality is What You Believe. It’s not what it is.
So here’s the 4 step cognitive restructuring method:
Identification of problematic cognitions known as "automatic thoughts"
Identification of the cognitive distortions in the ATs
Rational disputation of ATs with the Socratic method
Development of a rational rebuttal to the ATs
We all make assumptions. It’s human nature. But the less we can rely on these assumptions and actually get to a closer version of reality, the better.
The day you stop making assumptions you will communicate cleanly and clearly, free of emotional poison.
We do this by speculating less, and finding out more.
I can't quite explain how important it is that we don't make assumptions.
