Here’s a little tornado story: So one day last summer we were supposed to get some bad storms that evening, so we were running errands, and I went to a thrift store (ended up taking forever) so when we get done we look at the sky, and the sky looked really creepy. So we bolted home, and my mom was like “anything could just drop from the sky rn” THE SKY WAS SO SCARY. so then we were rushing home, AND THE EMERGENCY ALEART started going off on the radio, but it was for Wisconsin (the storm that was later coming for us) so then we get home, and my mom runs to the store AND WHEN SHE GOT IUT OF THE STORE.. the clouds with literally funnling and rotating like it was a really scary wall cloud. Big buildings particularly ones with large open spaces like a Walmart are not ideal to be in. If you are stuck in one. Interior room with not windows at the center of the building. You want as many walls in between you and the tornado. Including ceilings. Never shelter in a room that you can look all the way up to the top of the building in. If the roof comes off it'll rain potentially life threatening debris down on to you.
But the center of a wal mart is just open space surrounded by loose things sitting on shelves. The back of the store at least has concrete walls and tighter spaces.
Texan here. When I was a kid my mom and I were in Garden Ridge and a tornado was coming right toward us so they locked down the store and made everyone get under the bathroom sinks. Fortunately it lifted up over the store but then touched back down again on the other side of the highway we were by. It was crazy and I’m thankful no harm came to us.
That would scare the heck out of me. I just got to work at the Bowling Alley I work at and we had to go to the basement due to a twister 🌪️ in our area.
25 years ago I quickly took refuge in a Walmart as I heard on the radio on my way back home that a tornado was going to follow the path of the road I was on. Within a couple minutes after I entered Walmart they rushed everyone in, locked the door, and told us to head all the way back to be away from the windows. That was so unsettling waiting for it to pass.
This summer I was in the Target by UNC Chapel hill doing some shopping when all of a sudden the cashiers told us to drop everything and follow them to the back. I heard someone say shooter so I sprinted to the back and the whole store was shut down. We sat there on the cold cement scared and confused. It broke my heart that these young collage kids had to deal with this. Unfortunately, there were so many people who were blissfully unaware that there was an active shooter so you could still see & hear people walking around. A few came to Target and were confused as to why the doors were locked. We couldn't let them in for fear it may be the shooter since the police didn't have a description of him yet. They finally apprehended the shooter but someone lost their life and that was so scary. I would seriously be fine with not knowing what the back of Target looks like.
We live in Kansas City, Missouri and this has happened to us before. We were under tornado warning so we went to Target (we live not even half a mile away) and there was a tornado while we were there. The employees let us back and into their little shelter. There were snacks, drinks, bean bags, etc! It was scary but i definitely felt safer.
I was working at Walmart, and we had 2 code blacks during my time there. Literally EVERYTHING stops, all associates usher the customers towards the rear of the store, the rear bathrooms are the safest place to be due to the small, enclosed space and the plumbing in the walls.
I'm so fortunate to live in Northwestern Pennsylvania! But there was this one time in Walmart when the power went out for no reason. It was so scary to be in such a huge dark place with shelves everywhere
Me and my cousin were 13 and 16 last year and we went to target in ohio and we were by ourselves. We were checking out when everyone got a notification on there phones that a tornado was heading towards us and we could see out of the doors and we could see anything it was gray and couldn’t see the cars. We were freaking out because our parents were on the beach and were answering there phones. Definitely a story to tell at each other’s weddings in the future tho.
I actually went on purpose to Wal-Mart because the storm got more aggressive, and Wal-Mart was the closest safe place. It's scary, especially when you hear the whole store move.
I kind of already know what the back of Walmart looks like because my mom worked for Walmart and I got to go back there any time she was at work. And really just got to go back there whenever.
i understand why they locked the doors but I think it’s so funny to imagine they locked it as if the tornado would be like “aw man! onto the next Walmart I guess..”
I'm 15 and have been scared of tornados since I was seven when our house got hit. I'd be freaking out too, I don't understand how they were being so calm.
The crazy thing is that I was in a Walmart during a tornado it was the most terrifying thing I ever saw.The sky was so dark and I hear sirens me and my family left and drove home the tree in our backyard was broken and a little hit our neighbors house that was the most terrifying moment 😂
The same thing happened to my Grandma. She was shopping and surprise surprise there was a tornado warning, the employees made everyone go to the back but, thank the lord the tornado warning was false, no tornado touched down but it was still scary to hear. (This was during Hurricane Helene.)
Question 🙋♂️, Does nobody check the Weather Forecast before going out and about? I understand Storms happen quickly but y’all have to be more careful in my opinion!
I was in a target in Florida when one hit and not a single person knew what to do. Being in from out of state we had to tell them not to send everyone to the front of the store since the power had gonenout
This once happened to me. My mom and I were shopping for some stuff. We had checked out and were about to leave and then the employees told us we needed to follow them. So we did and I was scared (I was like 5 at the time). We were in the back and my mom called my dad to tell him what was happening. We were in the back for id say 15 minutes. When they let us leave I was still scared. My mom had told me a tornado touched down not far from us.

When i worked at walmart we had a code black and had to huddle everyone in the middle of the store. Of course nobody listened
Key is get ya butt away from any windows. 😮👁️👁️
I love tornadoes and I’m sorry you had to go through this god bless❤✝️🌪️
I was in Walmart in Claremore, Oklahoma in the mid 70’s when a tornado passed overhead. It was a little scary.
Gad always does a miricale he is the best he saves us when something is happening but if you pray a miricale can happen I love god so much
god is not real
Omg I’m so glad ur safe but I also thought u looked like Sidney sweeney haha
I’m literally in Chicago and there’s like so much stuff going around 😢😢😢
I actually went on purpose to Wal-Mart because the storm got more aggressive, and Wal-Mart was the closest safe place. It's scary, especially when you hear the whole store move.
“by the grace of god” 💀
I kind of already know what the back of Walmart looks like because my mom worked for Walmart and I got to go back there any time she was at work. And really just got to go back there whenever.
I've been in the Walmart supercenter where there was three F5s coming our way and this was in Paragould Arkansas in early 1998
i understand why they locked the doors but I think it’s so funny to imagine they locked it as if the tornado would be like “aw man! onto the next Walmart I guess..”
OK I’m not trying to like be a scaredy-cat, but I used to be so scared of tornadoes, so I would probably start bawling
I'm 15 and have been scared of tornados since I was seven when our house got hit. I'd be freaking out too, I don't understand how they were being so calm.
This takes me back to that one episode in SuperStore
Did they have Ryan Hall Y'all on? He's a great guy with a great team! Scary times tornadoes
They need a strong room.
Calmest person ever during this type of thing
I know! I have have done this once lol. It was actually pretty chill
Had this happen about 12 years at our local Walmart. It was crazy.
Question 🙋♂️, Does nobody check the Weather Forecast before going out and about? I understand Storms happen quickly but y’all have to be more careful in my opinion!
By the grace of God, the tornado missed the Walmart and She could go back to shopping!!? 😂 Yeah thank goodness for that much!!!😂😂
I was in a target in Florida when one hit and not a single person knew what to do.
Flashback in the mid December of 2023
a few weeks ago there was this horrible tornado is kentucky that was coming straight to my town, luckily it skipped over us. i dont know what i would have done if it hit us, forever thankful for god.
