Love it and all but kinda mad theres no rival marraiges or events past the second heart. Seemed like something they should've kept.

Every once in a while I look up, gaze out the window, and realize I’m playing a new, true Harvest Moon title in 2020, and life is good
Aside from the emptiness of winter, the one thing that actively irritates me is trying to dismount my horse in town. I mean, I've learned a few tricks, but they don't always work and I hate spending an in-game half hour trying to get off my horse in front of the blacksmith.
Couldn't agree more, they should have stables in town near the shops where we can go to dismount
What i like about the game
-good color scheme
-cute characters redesign
-quality of like update(mass shipping, you can now ride the horse outside of your farm)
-new events
-funny dialogues
-girlfriend/boyfriend relationship
- you don't need to buy appliances only in Saturday
-same and relaxing music (summer is kinda whack tho)
What i didn't like.
-no basket
-you can't cook without recipes
-massive increase of wood in house/farm upgrade + the need of stones now.
-no kiss in your marriage?! Like seriously!
-some dialogue of the bachelorette is cut example in the gba version when ran / ann have a orange heart she would have separate dialogue in then inn and in the second floor on how much she likes you. now that dialogue is only available in first floor.
I think basket would be useless because of the new bag

But why they bother to put that in display tbh when i first see that I'm so happy a nostalgia bullet just hit me remembering the trick when I bring that to the horse festival then putting a ton of mushroom to gain alot of money and bringing it to the winter mine. Then i found out you can't get it now man, but that's just me.

What I really miss is the Greenhouse. The ability to plant any crops off season, man.
This game made me drop animal crossing new horizons and that is a huge compliment. I absolutely love this game, but I will admit playing this game as an adult has made me realize how badly I played the original as a kid. XD I will also probably make more multiple files than in any other game now that same sex marriage is available.
This game blows ACNH out of the water and the new SOS game looks awesome. Mineral Town was my childhood game and it's nice to revisit it.
My favorite redesign has to be Huang. He changed from a near racist charicature to someone you might want to date. 😄 My only wish is someday they would add new scenarios. I miss rival weddings!

This is a really good remake, it turned out better than I could have hoped for. I was one of the ones who were worried when the remake was announced but I'm loving it and I can't wait to get into it more, I am currently on summer year 2

I’m not sure if this is just me, but I feel like I see “it’s locked...” come up a lot more often in this than I did in the original FOMT. It seems like more often than not, if the store part of a building is closed, everything is closed, and you can’t go in and talk to anyone even though you KNOW they are in there. (that Eric Andre gif works well here). Gotz’s shop seems to be the most notable exception, which is weird. I don’t think I would have such a problem with the time feeling like it goes to quick if I didn’t have to get to most places in town by 4:00/5:00 to have a reliable chance at talking to everyone!
Gotz is so annoying! I feel like if I don't get there when he opens at 11:10 then I won't be able to go in. He closes at 4 I think but is outside for hours before that so you can't go in his shop.
I am so glad to have a real harvest moon game again. It’s really weird calling it Story of Seasons because it feels like it’ll always be the real Harvest Moon to me. It’s been about a week since I got the game and I already feel like I’ve put 50-60 hours into it easily
There's a bug in the game where you can have off seasonal plant to continue growing on to the next season (those that regrows), even in the winter. That if you don't mind exploits. It's a known bug that was found in the original game that left intact in the remake. There's a few video floating around on youtube explaining how it is done, if anyone is interested.
For things to do in the game. There's a list of achievements that can be done through collecting, selling items, fishing (seasonal), meeting specific milestones and so on if anyone into having an 100% completion of the game.
Time get a lot more manageable once you have better tools, and having a daily routine also help make time more manageable.
I'm loving this game! I'm already on summer (year one of course). I am glad they kept the mine cheat as well. Haha.
The mine makes me lose my patience. Having the coop and barn from the start is something I have missed. The time passing feels like a really good pace. Although I do admit that it sometimes moves to fast. It depends on what I want to do that day.
The graphics I do love. Some redesigns I didn't like at first (like doctor)...they've grown on me. Karen was the other one I didn't truly like (at least not over the original). They've all sort of grown on me once summer came around.
Brandon and jennifer seem good (haven't gotten far with them).
The animals are amazing as well. That the cows give you different milk and it's not just a recolor of them is great.
I don't really have dislikes for this. It's truly a great remaster of the original!
I hope they include some DLC like they did with games such as Trio of towns! Nothing crazy; but maybe more note events and the option to buy more clothes. I would have loved to wear a simple dress for some of the festivals and not farm clothes 😂
Well you can buy more clothes for your character, it's in the eshop :)

I love the different types of cows! They're all so cute! My only complaint is that the brown one is a coffee cow and not a chocolate cow. It doesn't make sense to me as to why there wouldn't be chocolate milk
I'm loving the game! I've never played the original mineral town or more friends, but I'm very happy i picked this up. Just got to my first fall, and I'm excited to continuing pursuing Cliff. I love that sprites can water my field for me so i have more time to explore and make friends.
thanks for mentioning the dialgue thing cause it‘s easily one of my biggest problems :/

Ahhh thank you for the review! I’m so glad you are enjoying it. I appreciate your opinion on this series above many other reviewers. I’m loving it. There are a few things that make me grumble and it would be nice for them to release some updates (unlikely). But overall it’s like a nostalgic trip I absolutely 100% asked for.
god i definitely agree time goes way too fast. i go to bed at like 12 - 2 am in the game usually bc of it xd

To help you! Go during the day and do all the town stuff before things close. Then mine and etc at night as late as you can, then stay in the spring until late, youll then transfer to bed to the next morning with full energy !

Afaik they removed rival marriages in the remake which is big minus, since not only do they cut that part, they also cut the corresponding events.
Friends of Mineral Town was my first Harvest Moon many many years ago and I played through it at least 10 or more times. I just love it. I don't care to read the same sentences over and over again because I just love this little town. Guess I should really get the remake. I don't like some of the redesigns or the fact they chose the JP names (poor Ann is gone..) but I just try to see it as a future setting like HM DS. Saw some people say tho that rival marriages are gone and that makes me a bit sad..
I completely agree with everything you said about this game! I played MFOMT when it first came out in America, so I was super excited to play this remake! 😁 It’s been amazing!! It’s like I’m reliving my childhood. ☺️❤️

I'm honestly glad you cant plant things in Winter, for the specific reason that you can focus on mining and town friendships. I struggle with fitting time for both Spring-Fall, so its a nice break from the norm to get a handle on :3
BTW they fixed the Brandon dialogue, at least. Unsure on Jennifer's. But Brandon's was glitched before to not always update for people dialogue wise.
got the game last week and I can barely put it down. Loved the original and this game makes it even better. Mining, for example, is more fun and the stamina bar is one of the best additions as it lets you track it. New and old characters work really well. Pty about rival marriages but that is really my only gripe! Oh and the kid not growing up either

Thanks for the review! As excited as I was for this remake, I've calmed down at this point and now really just want news about a new Story of Seasons and Rune Factory 5 (though I understand why there would be delays).
I loved this game - I especially loved that you could date all of the characters, so you don't need multiple save files to learn all the backstories for all of the characters. I hope they keep that in for the new upcoming game!
I'm a fan of the original, bought a switch and this game just because of that and I agree with you for the most parts about the likes and dialikes, though I dislike the renaming of the Sprites and Kappa's redesign the most - I can't look at Kappa without thinking of Severus Snape - and I dislike how harvesting works unless you're picking things up, like how in the mines whatever comes out of rocks can "bounce" away from you so isn't immediately collected and the same with milking/shearing animals as well as getting grasses from weeds, though I do like that you can get grasses from them because it makes cutting them with a sickle worth it sometimes

I'm happy with the games, but I do miss the old designs of Ann, Carter, goddess, Karen, Gary, winery husband and wife and the cop what happen to him.
For dialogue, ToT took like a year to repeat lines from what I remember

I've been obsessed with this game since I bought it! I previously played the Story of Seasons for the 3DS and my older sisters played the original harvest moon series. The graphics are adorable, the animals are so cute and since I never played the original, I think the characters all look fine. Personally I don't like Brandon, idk we just don't vibe, and selling Vans favorite item to Huang is a bit OP but other than that I've been having a great time, I'm almost done with year one! I'm just looking forward to winter being over because it feels like there is nothing to do! I miss the anxiety of running around helping the sprites water all my crops and trying not to run out of stamina before noon lmao

Thank you SO much for saying something about the time moving too quickly. I thought I was just remembering the game wrong but I noticed right away how much faster it felt. I am really generally happy one of my first video games ever has been remade even with its flaws!
I use to play the original so much as a kid, and this is a good remake. Although I must admit that some of my biggest dislikes (IMO) were the dialogue, as mentioned in the video, clothes, and surprisingly the livestock size. They take up so much space and it's hard to go around them in the barn, even more so when they phase through each other and you have pregnant livestock stuck in one spot. Other than that, I'm really enjoying the game.
I was going to get the game until you mentioned the clock. I didnt get far into Stardew cause of the damn clock. It seems counterintuitive to make a game about relaxing and nature set against a fast paced clock which adds pressure.
I just wish we had a choice in clock speed like difficulty modes

You missed the holes in the mine. I wish they were visible so that you could avoid them if you wanted to and not have to save and reload constantly. The stamina hit could be a little smaller from the fall too. I don't mind the repetitive dialog or winter though, nor the time at which the game runs. I'm also not a fan of the mandatory breeding system in order to get animals at 10 hearts.
Also, time does move in the mine. I believe it advances by 1 minute each floor.

We can thank the localization team for it being marriage instead of the best friend system. Personally I hope that they add DLC that brings back rival marriages (and maybe even rival kids like in animal parade?) when they see how much international players liked that feature.

I would love if they featured "runaway" character return to town after playing like 5+ years (in-game) and you can buy clothing part separately and mix n' match them in clothing store (maybe clothing store owner/owner's daughter/son as ahem.. marriage candidate) Or.. that was too much to ask 😐
Ik I'm severely late to the party but growing up with this game on GBA and now having it as an adult on switch feels amazing. Every change they made was positive. 10/10

Sometimes I feel majorly spoiled by Rune Factory when it comes to character interactions and dialogue (as others have said). I find myself feeling like the world is empty and for a game with an emphasis on “FRIENDS,” the mineral town folk are very flat and I never really feel like these characters are my ‘friends,’ but rather obvious NPC’s. 😂😂😂
As for the time, I feel like you are almost forced to utilize the sprites in order to get anything done, which can be kind of disappointing, since one of the main draws is the farming.
I still enjoy the game-but I just wish it was taken a FEW steps further-especially with the dialogue.
I'm saving up money so hopefully I can buy the switch and this game soon! MFoMT was my first ever HM and I can't wait to relive my Mineral Town adventures.
I absolutely love this remake, it improves every gameplay aspect! The graphics, which I was mixed on before release, really come to life in motion! And the redesigns are completely fine and fit in. I prefer the old ones, but the new ones are absolutely fine and they don‘t „ruin the game“ like many claim.
Too bad about all the marriage stuff they took out and that the two new characters kinda suck.
This is the first Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game that got its hooks into me. The only other game in the series I played was Boy and Girl on the PSP and it never really did anything for me probably cause I was 9 when I got it. But, I'm glad I picked up FOMT because I finally understand the appeal of this series.

Great review of story of season friends of mineral town! I kinda been playing way too much of it lol. At first I didn't like the art style when it was announce but now i love the art style when i started to play it!! And i so agreed time does pass way to fast.

i got this game yesterday evening i wanted to get the physical copy of it but my walmart nor my gamestop had it so i went ahead and bought it digital which is how i have most of the switch games i own i never played the orignal the first harvest moon i played was harvest moon cute and then when i got my 3ds i got story of seasons and i also own story of seasons trio of towns i am almost done with summer now in this game i have put quite a few hours into it already and i have to say i love it its cute and even looks great played on my tv and in hand held mode i love the way the animals look and even my character i do miss being able to customize it like with the other two story of season games but thats fine i love this game and if i get my hands on a physical version of it ill get it just so i can have the case
Long since lost track of how much time I sank into Back to Nature so dropping back in for this has been a lot of fun.
Still not entirely thrilled with the girl's redesigns but since I'm going after Jennifer on this playthrough its sort if a moot point.
Even as a HM64 Vet myself I do wish days were a little slower. Or at least there was fast travel option. Sure that may sound silly but it really made things easier in Light of Hope.
There is a teleportation / fast travel stone but you have to make it to year 3 so it isnt helpful early game

The only things I hate are the sounds walking makes and the days fly by way to fast for me. Still love it though.

One small nitpick that hasn't been mentioned (I think) are the models having mouths. (Usually visible when eating and sometimes while speaking/singing).

My first harvest moon game was more friends of mineral town, and I was very scared of this remake destroying my nostalgia so I've been putting off getting it. This review makes me feel a lot better!
I would've just decided to replay mfomt, but that game is glitched after you get married and I don't feel like watching all my animals die of starvation AGAIN, so I'm happy that the remake sounds like it'll still be just as much fun as the original. Now all I need to figure out is if the weird cottage you get as a 50th-anniversary present still exists that gives you the gem.
I would die for an remake of Harvest Moon - DS with this graphics and quality of life features. PLEASE, NINTENDO, I'M BEGGING!

Can't wait to go back to basics! Sometimes I miss the simpler HM/SOS games! Also, yay! Not having to sacrifice that middle crop anymore! And yay! the mines are actually mines again! Not a fan of "Mining Points."
I've been playing since release, year 3 Spring, and there's a bug in the switch version that locks mythic ore spawns so I've had to stop which is really sad. Never played the original, but I love the game. I've been needing some standard harvest moon for a long time after some disappointing 3ds releases and the split from Natsume and replaying the wii games I own isn't the same.
Honestly this was my favourite harvest moon game for a long time when I was a kid. I mean I loved the console versions too but this one definitely had a place in my heart. There is definite nostalgia here but I am ready for them to make an actual new story of seasons game for the switch. (The spin off doesn't count.) I don't mind how simple this is but personally I like more of a challenge. I want another game like Tree of Tranquility personally.
Side note though, I never liked how Cliff looked as a kid so I never wooed him but I was interested in him. I usually went for Grey or Kai but this time I like his design so I'm going for Cliff this time.
I have been playing the crap out of this game since I got it.Im on year 2 with all the blessed tools,I spent most of the first year trying to upgrade my tools and make as much money as possible.I have my entire field cleared with massive numbers of crops growing the blessed tools make it a breeze.

I'm a bit sad that some of the new mechanics completely break the game. I got the item (Van's Favorite) during my second week in-game. That 57K just like that! Worse still I used the money betting on the derby. I made it out of my first spring with 1.2 Mil and quite a few upgrades. Gets worse as you go along, money isn't even an issue in the game.
Also Karen was REALLY toned down. She had quite a bigger personality in the original and HM DS... I want my drunkard back!

@@invigale It's a raffle prize item. You have a chance of winning one every time you make a purchase in the stores. Normal game play I get 3 or 4 per season. You can play the system and get one every single day though, there are tutorials online for that but it's really boring...

Can you change your hair color? Because it looks as if your character has a different color than from the normal dark brown
There's two guy designs and two girl designs. You can't change the hair besides picking who you play as, but you can change your clothes!
I liked it and thought it was okay but I pretty much didn't play it much after I got married within my first year lol
I wish I could get this game but the price is a little bit pricy, guess im gonna wait for eshop sale for this one to get it though

I've been loving this remake. I admit I didn't like some of the redesigns but they're all growing on me. I agree about the time thing though. There were many times where I felt frustrared because I was just a little bit too slow going somewhere and ended up having shop doors close on my face... I'll be glad once my horse is big enough to ride. I didn't have FoMT as a kid, I had it's ps1 counterpart, Back to Nature, but this game still makes me feel so nostalgic and happy when I play. Plus, I can play as a boy and marry the doctor, and then he can live with me on Yaoi Farm lol. I would love to see them remake Animal Parade or Tree of Tranquility next.

Oh my I thought I am the only one who feels the time is running very fast in this game lol, felt like I have so much stuff to do but its already 12 lol, good thing they always wake up at 6 even tho the energy depleted.
I played the original FoMT and I also felt winter is so boring, I thought they would include some stuff to plant this time but nooooooo 😔😔😔
The thing that I think annoys people the most is they take out rival marriage, taking away the realism unfortunately.

I like the music but they made the winter theme too happy. it takes away from the cold dreary lonely winters for me. I skipped most of the season which I never did in the original because I like the theme so much
I agree with your review! I'm in summer of year 2 and I've thoroughly enjoyed the game so far. I'm still not a fan of Jennifer and Brandon but I'm only at a blue heart with them so maybe that's why...they just have really strange personalities to me.
(10:52) yup i really told u about the character have no dialogue at all & it giving me a huge headache & I stopped playing it immediately because of that & I played it last year in 2022 & this game still need an update immediately no matter what in my personal opinion

I like this game, I grew up on the original game and I loved that game but after playing something like stardew valley, this game isn't as much fun for me anymore, one thing I LOVE about stardew is the depths of the characters and their backsories. For eg, when you meet Shane is he a complete assh-le but as you get to know him , you learn he struggles with depression and has a drinking problem and that something you have to help him with. The same with Alex he has a very sad back story and I feel like the characters has so much depth in and some even have character development, I find that really amazing
