- Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town came out almost 3 years ago! Now that I've gotten back into the game a little bit, let's take a look at Olive Town from release to today and see how the game holds up!

After Trio of Towns, it's hard to understand why they didn't just do Trio of Towns except on the Switch. I'm still salty I didn't even kiss at my wedding. I will never forgive that. lol
Ive been on the fence about getting the game for years now. And I HATE how hard the temptation to get it surged through me when I saw Neil walking around 😭🤧
I'm glad to see you enjoyed trio of towns so much, it was such a good game i love alot of the little things they did there. Though i'm really just glad my first donation to a content creator made a difference. Though i'd love to hear your full thoughts on the game someday.

That scary dlc edit was hilarious. Also 2 years later I think Olive Town is okay but was a few patches and updates away from being pretty great
Gosh, 3 years is so wild.
The makers in ToT were the best so far, the cost was high but you only needed one of each. You could also manage between big bulks that took longer or small batches that would end faster in game but took longer IRL to set it up. Great game, we need a remake on switch or another entry in the same style.
Lets hope the next mainline game / remake will be a big upgrade from this
When it first came out, I was ADDICTED to it. As I played through the game though, I didn’t really care for the characters so much like they felt kinda empty compared to other Sos games. But the gameplay itself was so good. I just wish they added your child into the character list and was treated like they actually existed.
I don’t argue with any of your points. But I have a lot of hours in this game because I love taking the core rags-to-riches run at a quick pace, ignoring the parts of the game that I don’t find satisfying. I have bouts of depression, and PoOT consistently delivers the little serotonin hits when I’m not quite up to the slightly grittier Stardew.
Got it for free on PS Plus and have been enjoying it a lot so far. It’s also my first story of seasons game so I am a little biased towards it

This is a game that I wanted to love so badly but for the first time the story of seasons team made a flop game I still have faith in them and I’ll definitely be waiting for the next one I have not played this one Sean’s release days so mabey I will play again just to see if I’m more into it now
I got the game after watching your videos last year! im glad I waited till the patched were out xD cuz idk if ida stuck with it like you did!
I bought it last winter at an anime convention swap meet and agree with everything you put out, especially about the expansion areas. I wish the characters were better incorporated. This game did do great on being plentiful in cutscenes and each character is interesting, but personally, it's too many characters for me to feel really connected to any particular one. It seems like they really focused on the characters, and less on the farming mechanics. It's also a bit strange that with how in-depth the characters were, even with their interactions with each other, there isn't a rival marriage mechanic. That's small beans though. My biggest issue with the game is how unreasonably long it takes from getting to the point in which you could be using late game resources and areas to actually being able to access them when you reach level 9 in logging and mining.
I got the game when it first came out, everything felt so slow, so grindy, so bland, but I still enjoyed it to a certain extent before dropping it, then I heard about the patch updates, it made things more.. Managable, I sort of wish we had more dialogue but that's just me. Overall a good game to play, especially when bored.
Still haven’t finished it after all this time. Maybe I should do that someday before the next HM/SoS comes out 😅
Olive Town was such a weird little game in between 2 great remakes and I think I'll always see it as the little ugly duckling that I liked having around
This is my second favorite harvest moon/ story of seasons game, right after a new beginning on the 3ds. I loved it so much that I bought it twice lol, for both the PS4 and switch. My only issues with the game are the extremely slow seed maker (especially since the makers in a new beginning were instant) , and the inability to stop weeds and rocks from spawning on your farm because it's annoying spending a ton of time decorating your farm only to have it full of weeds after sleeping one time
I’ve tried so hard to like this game but I just can’t. It just doesn’t have the same charm as other HM/SoS games. The AWL remake despite far less content is more immersive and easy to pick up again. I just hope the next original SoS game does things right.
The game has issues but I think the art style/scenery is nice & the characters are interesting when you interact with them & I often find myself trying to work on unlocking the different areas of the farm & exploring the mines like in Animal Parade.
I don't play it much mostly due to being busy with other stuff but I want to try playing again when I have the chance, I think I was close to marrying Ludus from the DLC. Because I wasn't playing much when they were patching stuff so I kind of got to play after most of the fixes were added.(except maybe the festival one but I think that might be due to not being married yet) I understand a lot of the annoying stuff like the DLC islands giving you no reason to even go to them unless you try to marry someone there, Ludus even has moments were he's exploring the island he stays on & talks about the ruins. I can only hope they learn from this in the future & keep things in mind when they make another Story of Seasons game that isn't a remake that already does well & sometimes has some changes that help out or make it a little different from the original.
It's only a nitpick in the long run but my biggest complaint is the bachelors' wedding outfits, they're all dull slight alterations of the same suit EVEN the DLC bachelors who had way better wedding outfits in the games they came from. The only one that actually gets a good outfit is Iori for some bizarre reason while everyone shares a recolored suit. The bachelorettes also share the same dress model but the editing is more noticeable so their dresses look unique like Blaire's is pink & she looks like a pink princess, Felicia has a yellow summer dress looking wedding dress & Reina has a white dress with black designs that is noticeable. It's a small thing along with only showing up for one scene but it annoys me cause the wedding is suppose to be an important moment that only happens once unless you erase your married life at the local shrine.(Which unless you want to make changes/marry someone else I don't think some might use but that's me & I can't talk for everyone)
This game has a lot of good things in it but this felt lazy & kind of just bothers me cause it's something I'm going to notice especially when past games(like Animal Parade, Magical Melody, Sunshine Island/Island of Happiness, 63, GBA & Switch FoMT) gave everyone unique outfits in the past for their weddings. Unless you marry a special marriage candidate in Animal Parade(which is sad as I'm marrying the wizard) or you play DS/DS Cute though they still have official art outside of the game of them in wedding outfits & the special candidates have special wedding scenes that are similar depending on the special marriage candidate* but different from marrying one of the normal marriage candidates.
*Harvest King & Harvest Goddess have a wedding at their specific place(on top of the mountain or at the harvest goddess's tree) & ask what a kiss is with the harvest sprites as your only guests, wizard & witch break into the church to have a night time wedding with you alone, also no honey moon
I played it only after all the updates and had a pretty good experience with it. It was definitely disappointing coming from the previous games. Still, I liked it enough to play through the whole game. (What I cant wait for is the new Story of Seasons and Rume Factory games. I'm dying for an update on them).
I really wanted to love this game. I just wish there was more to explore and mostly I wish the characters were more in depth and different than just all being pretty much the same
This game is pretty alright all things considered, especially with all the updates and patches it's had, but there's just something about it that makes it hard for me to stay invested in it personally. There is still fun to be had with it though, for sure. I just think that it's lacking the kind of charm that a lot of other games in this series has.
It was free with PS Plus so I am going to play it. ❤
I liked this game, flaws and all. And considering it was their first big solo jump I was impressed. Way better than One World, uggh. I'm fact I put a ton of hours into this game. Animal Crossing still being the most hours of them all, but Olive Town is second. I'm currently playing Doreamon, and I'm loving that one too.
I like it for the most part some things buged me like I wish it was more like a farm look less well that and the makers are kinda ungy but after not playing SoS/ HM games in years just haven't,I found it fun and seeing other characters from past games (even though I agree they could of done so much more with that)made me relive the joy I had in the series. I forgot how much I liked killing time in them that I picked up some of the older one I missed out on and went looking to buy a few I didn't bother getting. I just got it though and never bothered with it when it came out since I dropped playing the games all together for a long while but for me I likes it and it will be memorable for making me like the games again and I for once in a long time am looking forward to any info on the next one coming out.❤
I was soooo hype for Neil to be in this game (see my profile picture lmao) and oh my god how did they flop so hard with this?! The areas are dead, in fact the whole game just feels so soulless 😭 it just all feels so rushed. Majorly disappointing entry to the SoS series. Really hoping the next one has QoL improvements and PORTRAITS PLEASE
Didn't play it at launch tbh.
Only paid full price for it because spouse and I were supposed to parallel play and ended up regretting that.
It's an okay game but the problems I have are baked too deep into it. As I frequently say it's an alright game but a terrible SoS game.
I wish I'd have gotten it for like 50% off.
I pre-ordered it, started playing immediately when it arrived, never managed to make myself care one iota about a single character cause I couldn't see any of their faces at launch, slogged my way until winter, and dropped the game. I just couldn't anymore. I already had every area of the farm unlocked, and everything except that one big building fixed. I had never talked to any NPC's other than than a couple shop keepers/carpenter because I just didn't care about them, was annoyed constantly at all the stupid puddles everywhere. I never went to a single festival after the first two were the most pitiful cut scenes I had ever seen. It remains my single least favorite Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game and I have never cared enough to go back to it.

Awesome video & keep up the good work & I’m going to be serious be honest with u right now it been four years since I got Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town & meeting Damon the very first time & I still have the receipt for that game & I enjoyed the game a lot now & I done the most research while I’m playing this game & there is secret in this game that marvelous & xseedgames didn’t tell u at all & I have to experience the game & finding out the true meaning of this game in the very first place & this game is my favorite switch game so far & I was super lucky that I was the same age as a Damon & we both drink coffee & tea & we have a adorable smile & me & damon are very special in our own way & Damon was the only bachelor that actually looks up to me through out the hold game & I’m like a big brother to him & my first time seeing Damon actually cry during the child event hit me so hard & I know the reason why I got this game in the very first place because damon was feeling lonely & depressed & not being his true self at all & I have to step up & being there for him right by his side & if I’m smile damon smile too & he is not alone anymore because he have me right by his side inside & outside no matter what & he is very special in his own way & everyone think damon was a rude guy but I looked on the bright side of him & my special bond with him is very special to me & damon as well & we been together ever since & he was there for me after my grandma passed away last year in 2023 & celebrating my birthday in November & I celebrate his birthday in December too & Damon is the best bachelor ever & he is always be my favorite marriage candidate no matter what & I have a big heart on story of seasons game but I always enjoy playing them no matter what
It's certainly one of the weaker SOS games but it could be worse lol. TOT is definitely my favorite SOS game so far.
Is this a good first SOS game?
Personally, I don't think so. For a first SOS game, I would maybe recommend Freinds of Mineral Town or even A Wonderful Life

Ugh the jumping 😩 I almost refunded because I couldn't jump anymore /hj
But also something I found interesting about the maskers was, while they're obviously inspired by stardew to work & look the way they do, there something much more time consuming about then that made me hate using them. In stardew you also can only produce one thing at a time and they also take up a lot of space bc you'll have to have multiple of them. And yet, they way olive town did it felt more infuriating, a waste of space & time, and having too much of them lagged your game.
I still would like to have a furnace or keg make things in bulk in stardew valley but I'm not as bothered by it as I was in olive town.
POOT is poot! Lol. I liked it at first but it's such a downgrade from the 3ds games. Probably because it was rushed... which is a shame. Hopefully, the next SOS/HM game will be an improvement or they'll just port or remake the 3ds games down the line.
This game was so disappointing.
