Came for the yelling, was not disappointed. 5/5
Based boomer Rip
Our C.
I have a tear in my shoulder. Should I still lift? “Yes by all means. You didn’t get that from lifting 225lbs repetitively over your head over years of training”
I tore my pants doing squats.
i know that feel bro
Add 5 pounds to your pants
"I GET TO SAY WHAT YOU DO! AFTER ALL, I AM THE DOCTOR" pretty much sums up the current state of the world right now.
Except those doctors often aren't even doctors. At best, they're brainwashed tools. At worst, they're all wannabe Mussolinis.
You should definitely never go to the hospital no matter what.
(joke). What do you call a smart blonde?
A Golden Retriever.
Mark, You sound like Yosemite Sam sometimes.
I have anorexia and everytime I look in the mirror I see Rippetoe.... jk love the channel and Mark. Thought of the joke listening to a recent podcast from the channel. Big fan.
That would be vigorexia lol
I just love like hell Rip's huge disdain for doctors!! It's awesome to watch.
If you ask a doctor anything about exercise he will tell you no, if you ask him what sport he practices he will mumble some bullshit that makes no sense, and none will say they lift heavy weights [of course there are exceptions, but so very few that you can generalise]... most doctors I've seen are fat and never exercise. My orthopaedic doctor told me my having a lot of muscle was a DISADVANTAGE to my recovery, then he mumbled something about the strong muscles pulling the weak muscles and that would destabilise my shoulder, he wanted to wrap it up for six weeks completely inactive, and only unwrap it every two days for showers... I went on the net and found out that was the mentality THIRTY years ago!! Now the best doctor in the world recommend a brace, but move it as soon as possible and sort of active recovery. I never told him about it, but he was impressed with the speed of my recovery, and told me never to lift anything above my head; now I can press the bar with 135 pounds total ... my bench is 275 pounds so far, my squat is 405 and rising slowly.
@Animenian Uzumaki
Couldn't agree more!! Specially Baraki... Rip should have hm on when he does his "Things Doctors Say" episodes to comment on those things.
Dr. Feigen.... I'm not too familiar with; but from what I have seen he is old and not as flexible for new things like others, plus he mainly deals with old men and women so I tend to doubt his opinions about HEAVY, actual HEAVY lifting. Im sure it is heavy for his clients, but even him because he is old cannot lift much, and he also came into lifting late in life so he never experienced the young heavy lifting feeling and motives etc that go with it.
@Animenian Uzumaki
Agree.... but is awesome, GREAT in fact, to see the disdain Rip has for most of them; and their recommendations.
Rip calls it "cover your ass medicine".
@Animenian Uzumaki
Maybe I am confusing him with another doctor... Bark has a podcast Barbell Medicine with another YOUNG doctor, and both of them lift heavy as hell. So perhaps I am confusing THAT doctor with another one.
Sorry and I take it back if I did.
1:47 gotta be the funniest Rip moment ever!! Instant classic!
Like the thumbnail, C.
It’s a pretty fair response to the doctor. These guys charge hundreds per hour and they lack the capacity to either educate themselves or their patients on the finer points of rehab limitations given how much time they have. Surgeons are like car mechanics - they don’t teach you how to drive.
I thought it was all done when he had shoulder tears as a competitive swimmer. If you can swim, you can press!
I’ve never had a doctor tell me not to lift weights.
Exactly...."you're doing a highly repetitive movement through a large ROM with a constantly changing force again your arm? Nope couldn't be that, must be the gradual increase in weight utilised under good form"🥴🥴
I would like to request that Rip uses the phrase "dumbass" in more videos.
I’ve never had a doctor tell me not to lift weights.
What is the answer?
Rip should be the new voice for Yosemite Sam.
Hey Rip. I got internal bleeding on the back in my right eye from using valsalva maneuver on my one RM squat. I think i didn't close my glottis and all the pressure got in my head. Could you please do a tutorial on how to do the valsalva maneuver with every detail including the closing of the glottis? Cheers
don't hold your breath in your mouth
The only doctor who tells me what to do is a shouty Canadian fellow some of you might know
Clean your room BUCKO!
@@spaceghost0813 haha I see you're a man of culture, with the Jordan Peterson quotes 😉 however I believe the original commentor is referring to the great natty or not Dr Greg D
@@samthesr20man yeah I was thinking of dr coach chef Doucette not Peterson haha
@@spaceghost0813 peterson needs some deadlifts that's why he is depressed.
Deadlifts and raw milk
@@danpenia219 Peterson does need some fahves
No free weights? Just buy them
Epic rip hits once again !!
I dropped a 45lb plate on my toe. Went to the Dr and told him what happened. I was warming up for squats and like a dummy I dropped it on my toe. The Dr says how much you lift. He then pulls out a picture of an ex ray of his spine and begins to show me what happens to a spine when squatting 600 lbs. according to him he did powerlifting in the 90’s with suits and such. Tried to go raw and messed up his spine. But I am just going to assume poor form or went to heavy thinking he could squat close to what he did in a suit lol.
He didn’t go to far with the conversation and weight if it’s “heavy”. What things would have changed in the conversation depending on weight? Say 190 6’1 dead’s 300lb vs 600lb ? Just out of curiosity. Thanks!!
Rip: Maybe you need squats and deadlifts
Does RIP have any medical degree?
