What Is Up With Kaulig Racing?

- Looking back 3 years ago Kaulig Racing was mentioned in the same breath as 23XI, Trackhouse, and other more new age teams. Fast forward to 2024 and at best the team pops up and at worst they can be completely irrelevant. So, what is up with Kaulig Racing?

What do you think Kaulig can do to improve in both Cup and Xfinity?
By selling one or both of their Cup Series charters.
Look who they had driving for them in Cup this past weekend…
Stick to Xfinity racing only for the next 5-7 years then, if profitable, add a driver to the cup series.
Put the majority of the focus on Xfinity for the next decade. Become the largest fish in that pond.
And with a few dozen wins and a couple of Xfinity championships, take some of that momentum to the next level.
Kaulig Racing needs to sell both of there charters and go back to Xfinity.
Who else forgets about Daniel Hemric's existence this year?
Who?
I forget him so much that i forget the 31 is raceing lol
I don't even recall seeing him on TV in the past 2 races.
I never heard anything in the season on him
I forgot he wasn’t in the 11 in xfinity still. I was so confused when I saw him in cup points before remembering he was driving in cup.
Letting go of AJ Almmendinger as a full time driver was a big fail.
He didn't do hot as a full time driver last season
Tbh he’s better as an Xfinity regular
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT definitely like Sadler
@@luckynascarcat24 without a doubt! My favorite Nationwide/Xfinity Series! I miss him…
Same with Regan Smith…
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT happy to see Aric Almirola racing Xfinity I hope he goes really far in owners points
Kaulig racing should have kept to the format, of having three cars in Xfinity and having a trophy hunting car with AJ almendinger, in the cup series.
They made a mistake with cup. They should have 1 charter with AJ Allmendinger running full time in cup. Losing Justin Haley hurt them more than I think fans and they realized at the time.
I did not like the fact that they gave Hemric a cup ride when he hasn't won more Xfinity series races to move back up.
Tbf to Hemric, the 11 team in Xfinity aren’t on the level of Kaulig’s 16.
@@ic3manyeah at least Hemric won an Xfinity Championship which is good enough proof but winning in a Kaulig car is a very tall task at the moment.
Giving Hemric a cup ride is disrespectful to the sport. Pathetic team all around imo need to get out of Nascar doing shyt like that.
What's wrong with Kaulig?
Driver Lineup. Losing Justin Haley. Ty Dillon, Derek Kraus, Josh Williams. Demoting Dinger to be replaced by Hemric.
But at least AJ is good in the 13 on a road course and SVG in the 16 at the Xfinity side
This was inevitable. All of last years backmarkers made huge steps forward this year - LMC to Toyota, and Spire and RWR both invested and made ambitious driver signings. Kaulig were kind of the obvious new backmarkers when we knew they couldn't afford Dinger
The talk around Josh Williams cracks me up. Aside from his stunt, absolutely nobody would know who he is.
The reaaon Haley left was that Brad Keselowski wants him in RFK. The moment they're able to get a 3rd charter, Haley will be the third RFK driver. That is as much as I have heard.
Remember from 2020 to late 2021, Kaulig had the Superspeedways figured out??
They were like DEI from the 2000's
Kaulig is obviously struggling in Cup, especially after running 5 different drivers in the 16 car, they're also struggling a bit in Xfinity. The only way Kaulig can improve is by selling one of their charters to either RFK, Trackhouse or 23XI.
I think they need to sell one of their charters that will give them a lot of money that they probably lost expanding too fast. Downsize in cup to one full time driver and figure out a way to get out of the hole that they have dug themselves into.
Kaulig should merge with Trackhouse Considering SVG
I don’t think they should do that, but I do think they need to either lease or sell a charter outright to Trackhouse so that that team has a seat available full time for SVG when he goes Cup race either next season or two seasons from now without losing Suarez or Chastain. The money from the leasing or sale of a charter would be a boost, they’d be able to focus on putting their best guys and best efforts in their one chartered car every week and then kinda work to get their Xfinity program back up to being an every week contender.
Hermic in cup was stupid, Aj going back to Xfinity was stupid, Josh Williams to the 11 car over Derick Kruas was very stupid. It’s the drivers they chose.
Kraus is garbage anyways so does it really make a difference?
They should sell their charters
They would be better as Chevy’s development team
I think Kaulig will do a partnership with trackhouse and SVG in a cupcar next year. Trackhouse said they dont have the staff to admin another fulltime cup car.(although im pretty sure SVGs 16 Cota car was assembled by trackhouse) So probaly another partnership like SVG and 97 xfinity car.
They never should’ve let Allmendinger as a full time driver go
Another thing is that Kaulig lacks a clear vision. 23XI and Trackhouse both have established goals and a road map to achieve those goals
They also have two goof drivers
Do y’all remember when Kyle Busch was supposed to join them
Losing AJ and Justin Hailey in their cup team really set them back, sure having svg and Aj in xfinity is good for road courses but unlike a few years ago just because you have Almendinger doesn't mean you'll automatically win at road courses
I 100% agree.
Really Kaulig has 3 options to get better: 1. Sell the cup charters and go back to focusing on making their Xfinity program as strong as it use to be. 2. Merge with another team at least in the cup side of things (like a Trackhouse, Spire, or maybe JRM if junior wants to move up). or 3. stay the course they are on and realize its going to take a long time to build up into what they want to be.
Agreed and honestly the first 2 are the only ones that make sense
9:25 and I belt out. “You’re a strange animal!!!” I love the 8 bit version. You put me on this song a while ago haha.
I don’t know but they’ve given SVG one decent car and the rest of the time they either have all sorts of engine or set up issues, or they give him bad strategy. They screwed him on the weekend leaving him out on old tires when the leaders pitted and he had to hang on for 15th while Custer pitted and drove to 10th.
Kaulig’s a weird team. They have good talents, they have solid foundations but they just don’t have an X-Factor like teams such as Buescher is for RFK. They certainly need one big piece.
They have two pieces: SVG and Aj Allmendinger
@@memolestas1017 SVG is more of a lower-series guy right now and AJ just moved back down to Xfinity full-time. Also, in the case of AJ, I’m sorry if I don’t consider a 42-year-old Part-Time Cup driver whose driving Full-Time in Xfinity to be the great solution here.
@@austinemms9772Maybe the best option is being patient and look to some intetesting names in trucks and xfinity, guys like Corey Heim, Jesse Love, Nick Sanchez, Rajah Caruth, Sam Mayer could be cool options......or just give a frickin full time cup ride to Ben Rohdes (please, don't let that guy to be another Matt Crafton).
Also, AJ got the same age of Fernando Alonso. I know those are 2 different kinds of racing, but even if both are in their last years, its better to have those guys on your team than don't have them.
@@austinemms9772 Well, Fernando Alonso is 42 years old too. I know that are two types of racing, but even if AJ and Fernando are on their last years, its better have them on your team than don't, you got experience and concistency.
Also, i could give a full time cup ride to Ben Rhodes, i think he's a interesting talent and could be great see him with some decent equipment.
isnt svg just a temporary partnership thing with trackhouse this year. @@memolestas1017
At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trackhouse just buys Kaulig out and Kaulig just downsizes to an Xfinity team.
Or TrackHouse takes over their Xfinity team too
@@ic3man Trackhouse gobbling everything up from NASCAR to MotoGP
@@camillaquelladegliaggettiv4303 at this rate, TrackHouse will somehow get a stake in Aston Martin’s F1 team
They've been on a downfall since after 2021. 2022 present, not all of their cars have consistently performed well like they used too. Landon Cassill joined at the worst time.
Too much aragenice. They drop sponsors and drivers like hot cakes. Too much thinking about "trophy hunting" and not enough showing results
If Kaulig Racing were to get another driver with experience, go with Matt DiBenedetto or Brett Moffitt.
I liked Kaulig more when it was Xfinity full time and Cup part time. I dont like that Brett Griffin who is poor at driver choices (he didn't want Allmendinger on the team) has been pushing for Derek Kraus to get a seat. I think its a waste of time and money. I also question if Chris Rice is making sound decisions. I want Matt to clean house on the management and crew side at the end of 2024. Its sad that Justin Haley is doing much better with RWR than with Kaulig. It is also possible that Matt is phoning it in so he can sell the team.
Brett Griffin? Who is he? And F him if he didn't want AJ on the team
I hope SVG drives the #16 full time in 2025
I hope he goes to a better team.
He'll likely go trackhouse if they're to get the buy the Stewart Haas charters
He's a 15th to 25th place driver in xfinity why would they?
he needs more than one year before he goes full time in cup
I see Kaulig in the same boat in a way i see Neice in the trucks. They grew a ton very quickly and rose to the top insanely fast. Then they just stalled out as some drivers left and as time went on.
- Sell the #16 Charter, leave Hemric in #31 (to fill a seat)
- Find/Get/Develop a new young talent for Xfinity program
- Rebuild around said talent & move to them Cup (replace Hemric), when the time is right
Kaulig could've/should've signed Gragson & built around him...just sayin'...
I do not want Hemric in the 31. He needs to go back to Xfinity or Trucks and stay there. What Kaulig really needs is get an experienced Cup driver. Most notably Matt DiBenedetto, Josh Bilicki or even Bret Moffitt.
If Justin Haley hadnt of left Kaulig, I think theyd be doing a bit better, at least better than they are rn. He mentioned moving to Rick Ware was a "lateral move", but has only finished ahead of Daniel Hemric twice so far, those being Phoenix and Bristol
To be fair RWR as a whole has been running a lot better. The results aren't always there. Look at Justin a few weeks ago at Bristol. He was running up in the top 10 most of the day, and Kaz was up there too
I'm so glad we are in complete agreement. I'm saying the exact same since Haley announced his move to RWR. I think he already saw the writing on the wall for Kaulig and decided that RWR with freeing up a lot of resources now that Cody is more or less out of the picture is a much better prospect than the overstretched Kaulig. And so far he is right. I mean, sure, the results are not there, but both he and Grala have better runs than we used to from RWR and although still behind Kaulig, it may very well change in the following years.
Kaulig made the mistake of going to big to fast. At the expense of the Xfinity program they wanted to go Cup racing and honestly killed their momentum. They should've just kept the 1 full time Cup team with a rotation of drivers. And unfortunately they lost Chandler Smith and Justin Haley because they are an organization without a rudder steering the ship. But I think if allowed Chris Rice will get the ship corrected eventually. Abandoning the Cup program at this point and revitalizing the Xfinity program maybe the best course of action at this point.
they should focus on xfinity or cup
best thing for Kaulig to do is to merge with Trackhouse, 4 charter team with tier 1 chevrolet support.
Justin Haley is a RFK Signed driver . . .
Also, Josh Williams has had a ton of bad luck so far, mixed with poor performing cars (you can see this even with AJ on some weeks), more than I think you have seen. He's been involved in incidents not of his own doing, etc.
Hear me out. Trackhouse X Kaulig merger could be amazing.
They already SVG over at Kaulig’s Xfinity team so it could happen
I'm not shocked, mathematically speaking not everyone can be a great team, someone has to be near the back and Kaulig Racing doesn't have enough going for them not to be the ones there.
They need to anchor Hemric for 5 years and really build around him in cup. If they can grab Sheldon creed or Jessie Love for the second seat in cup too that would be great. They need some mid term pain in those cars for long term gain
Sell a charter, they don't need two they don't even have two fulltime drivers. Use that money to upgrade and rebuild. Focus on Xfinity
Kaulig’s cup program should become trackhouse’s 3rd and 4th car and then make their xfinity program “Trackhouse’s xfinity program” like how JRM is Hendrick’s xfinity program. “Kaulig with Trackhouse” could be what we see in the future.
Losing Justin Haley hurt them
They need to fire Chris Rice... They need fresh management, they've made such poor decisions with their driver lineup
Remember when Chris Rice said Daniel Hemric was gonna surprise the world 😂😂😂
Kaulig should (and it might be part of the agreement) sell one or both of its charters to Trackhouse. Makes the most sense and build their Xfinity team into Trackhouse’s development team. 🤔🤔
Think about losing one of your drivers to Rick Ware Racing.....AND BEING WORSE OFF! lmao.
This would be like finding a $20 bill but In the process dropping $40.
I think the problem with Kaulig is the drivers they currently have. SVG and AJ only shine on road courses and Josh Williams is just… well, there. Daniel Hemric I sometimes forget is even in the Cup series 3/4 of the time. And the 16 Cup car is just rotational drivers.
Kaulig seriously needs to reconsider their drivers they have employed and rebuild their Cup program. Here’s how I would do it if I were Kaulig:
-sell one Cup charter to either RFK, Trackhouse or 23XI. idc if it’s the 13, 16 or 31.
-fire Daniel Hemric. he has had many opportunities to prove himself, and after all these years he’s hardly ever got the job done. Sure he has a championship but I look at it as if he got REALLY lucky.
-keep AJ and SVG. they shine on road courses. AJ can retire with Kualig if he wishes to and SVG could take a path to Cup with Kaulig if he eventually plans to race there full-time.
-get an experienced Cup driver in at least an Xfinity ride, maybe go for Bret Moffitt or Matt DiBenedetto.
-fire Josh Williams. In my opinion he’s underperforming, even at a new team. I know it’s his first season at Kaulig but if he’s gonna underperform then he’s gotta go.
Some teams belong in Cup and Some teams belong in Xfinity... Kaulig Racing belongs in Xfinity.
They should get rid of the cup team just stay in the Xfinity serie
They decided to stop trophy hunting and started getting drivers who have funding behind them.
I think they're waiting for the TV and charter deals to be finalized. And once they are and everyone knows what everything is track house is coming in and buying both kalgue charters. And they're going to concentrate on Xfinity. Instead of being in a cup. And I think 2311 buys a charter off of s h r.
The track record of teams moving up from lower series to the cup series is fucking terrible. I was rooting for them to be the expectation other than MWR. And they've done better than most but I can't say I'm surprised rn
Kaulig needs to sell a charter 1 full time cup car with Aj, 2nd car part time, xfinity 2 full time drivers Williams and hemric, 3rd car with multiple drivers mostly have kraus in the car
I think they got too big too fast. 2311 is doing great because Toyota is doing everything they can to make 2311's cars as competitive as possible. Plus, they have Tyler Reddick who can drive and some might hate me, but Bubba Wallace is a playoff caliber driver in his own right. If Trackhouse probably wouldn't be worth a bucket of warm piss if it wasn't for the new car along with buying Chip Ganassi Racing. The new car plus whatever engineering and development Ganassi Racing was doing to get ready for the next gen car made Trackhouse what it is today.
They chose one win Hemric over AJ 🤷
They really need to get AJ back in cup
They just don’t have a great driver lineup, a lot of pay guys, and the one solid driver on their roster they somehow can’t find funding for to put him in cup. Hemric isn’t bad but in the best equipment he’s not great, so in mediocre equipment he’s not gonna run well. Ty Dillon will at least bring a car home in one piece but he won’t do much with it in the race. Derek Kraus and Josh Williams have no cup experience so in their starts they have either run decent or had problems. The one thing that team doesn’t have but desperately needs is a cup veteran with some funding, doesn’t even need to be much just something and be a proven cup series driver. Someone like Christopher Bell or William Byron I’m sure could hop into those cars and at least contend for wins, or even a Bubba Wallace or Erik Jones could make those cars look competitive and bring some funding. But I don’t really see many options of that sorts. Justin Haley was a bigger loss than most would think, he’s making Rick Ware cars look good. But if Kaulig could pick up a decent veteran driver with some past wins and funding, I think they could be decent in the future. If they put AJ back full time in cup, he wouldnt be a great long term choice but he’s the best of their current lineup for the job, he can at least get them wins.
I agree that they may have gone to cup too quickly. I think they should sell the 31 charter and have the 16 be the sole cup car and put more emphasis on xfinity until they are for sure ready for cup again, or they strengthen the alliance with trackhouse in cup, or be the tier 1 at honda. I also think hemric should get out of kaulig and try to go back to JGR or a Top tier car in xfinity, he did win an xfinity championship after all, i think his career would suit him better in xfinity like it has for allgaier and allmendinger.
I don't know if the Honda thing will happen. If it doesn't look like Honda is coming in a possible solution would be to try and get in talks with Ford and focus primarily on Xfinity for a while again. Ford does not have many good developmental cars in the lower series now that Penske no longer has a Xfinity program and neither does RFK. The only main Ford developmental team is Stewart-Hass and they might be leaving Ford soon. Chevy just has too many teams right now. I agree if Honda came into the sport moving there would be best but if not then helping Ford develop young talent could make Kaulig relevant again.
Maybe if we didn't sign mid drivers would've. have better start
Aj is the face of kaulig, and he’s not getting younger, they need to start finding a new guy, aj is my guy but i know his days are numbered
Chandler Smith winning 2 of the last 4 races while Kaulig only has one car in the chase tells me everything I need to know.
I also saw the cracks when they were giving Landon Cassill garbage equipment, and even Hemric was struggling even after scoring top 5s every week in a JGR car.
They went from winning a cup race in 2021, to becoming a worse team than Rick Ware in 3 years time.
Their biggest mistake was pulling AJ Almendinger from the big league or the NASCAR upper league. If you weren’t ready for him to jump up there then you should’ve never taken him from the Xfinity force him to go back down to Xfinity. I think hurts his career. I know he doesn’t like the big boy cars I get that but You won’t leave the lasting Legacy in both series not just one, especially at the age of 42. You only have a few more years before you’re gonna be classified too old anyway I think the biggest mistake was that they should’ve tried to win a championship and Xfinity with AJ Allman, then move up to cop, but only take him up to cop and no one else
he said he wants to compete in cup multiple times lmao
They good in xifinty cup not so Good
Kaulig is getting what it deserves for demoting Allmendinger
They got rid of Haley and it all went down hill…
Get better drivers that aren’t Nationwide Series drivers.
Driver Lineup :(
Kaulig isn’t a top tier team. You just gotta realize that at this point.
I would sale a charter use that money help one car team.
Do You think Kaulig Racing will fall off Even more?
They definitely should sell and focus on xfinity. Garbage team
Top 30 hunting
Clearly who the sponsors will back gets the seat. AJ with his live F bombs killed his marketability & he already has a history. Other then AJ & SVG they don't have a driver that has gotten results. Then SVG is on loan for this year only. Nice guys get the seat over talent & we seen it time & time again this approach will ruin the franchise. Stats matter when selling a sponsor. So they got to figure it out quick.
When you’re paired with a crap RCR team you’re going to get crap results. You’re getting shitty second hand parts from a shitty team.
They are junk this year in both series
SVG will carry the Xfinity team this year.
Signing a bunch of talentless (pay to drive) drivers will do that to u
They screwed up by letting Justin and Chandler go. Aj was never great cup driver. They should have went after better cup talent.
Nascar is a rotten sport nowadays
I was rooting hard for Kaulig Racing in Xfinity when they were mainly an Xfinity team.
Now… well… it’s just cricket noises for me outside of AJ Allmendinger.
Honestly I’m a bigger fan of their Xfinity team and I think going to Cup was a mistake.
