just realised you could unlock zones 🙄 brilliant video, did this on my phone in the middle of the bush in Australia and worked perfectly, excuse the pun but thanks for helping me get it up Tim
Thanks Mate. How frustrating that I have to search RUclips for an answer to this! DJI sent me the unlock code and a list of "click heres" but none of it worked from Mini 3 Pro. Can't believe it's so difficult to implement this basic and necessary function. well, at least there is YOU!
Hello sir, Thank you so much for a detailed video. I applied that and when tried to fly the drone it gave a very fast beeping sound with a warning in the controller. Would you know why that could be and should I immediately abort in such situations?
Hi, I'm assuming you synced the geozone authorisation to the drone and that you are at the exact location you applied for. The drone can initially on start-up recognise its in a restricted area and give a notice on the screen until it identifies it has the unlock authorisation. If you haven't done it correctly it won't launch. If you think there might be a temporary restriction in the area check your country NOTAM. Not sure where you are, I only have the UK link. You can also just call ATC for the airport you're near and they will help.
Thanks a lot, You save my life before leaving for a leave. Very instructive, short and straight to what new droners do need. From Canada and Algeria One Question, I am going to SFO. Next week. Do I Need an other unlocking process for SFO Airport? Thks. for Responding
Thanks buddy. Yes any time you fly in a certain zone you'll need to do the application for the new zone and be aware they are time sensitive. Great video instruction Tim, very clear and great sharp imagery thanks. One question, i have written ATT approval to fly in FRZ, do i still need to enter on drone assist too? thanks.
With mini 2 I was able to do it right from my phone. And the dron in real time. No dji web sight necessary. When I try it with dji mini 3 pro after I’ve connected the controller to wifi. I always get a can’t connect to dji server message :/ and I know my wifi is good. I also get the same message when checking for updates. There are two updates software and firmware. Usually I get that same message with form ware. Very frustrating. Here is my question. Have they changed anything with unlocking zones from 2 to 3 mini pro?
Hi, I don't know about changes from mini2-3. It sounds like you only got the controller for the mini 3. Firstly, you could still use your phone and connect the mini 3 to the app. Secondly, do you have the controller logged into your online DJI account? I think this is where the issue will be. You will need to also connect the RC to WiFi everything, you won't need to log in, just swipe down on the RC and tap WIFI to connect. Let me know how you get on. Tim
Excellent video. Did everything, imported the license into the drone. Got to the spot and couldn't unlock it. Perhaps I was out of the time I specified, could that be it? Frustrating! :)
Hi, great upload. How long does the unlock last for? Could I do this a day or two before and be fine when on restricted site that much time later? Thanks in advance. Si.
Hi Tim, sorry to bother you again but the DJI Fly Safe unlock request pages with affiliated map is now not displaying any of the geo zones - restricted or otherwise, for the whole of the UK. I have authorisation from Birmingham Airport control tower for this weekend but it seems all is scuppered as I simply cantb register the restricted zone via Fly Safe. Any ideas? I've read that DJI has been removing the zones from the maps due to EU regs. That doesn't helpm me when it still requests an unlock for restricted zones. Is it the case that DJI now doesn't restrict but does the 'fly under caution' and with (third party) authorisation pop up? Thanks in advance, Si.
Hey Si, good to hear from you again. If you're in the UK ignore fly app. It was too inaccurate and CAA have stopped there ability to control your take off. The responsibility has been taken Away from them and put to you. So you've done the right thing. You have gained your authorisation from the airport. Just follow their instructions. For example, they may want to let them know when you have launched and landed. Have your proof with you, incase you're challenged by police. When you launch, you won't get locked out. But you'll get an advice warning message you agree to.🫡
Great video. Do you know if there is a period of time from going through the process of getting it unlocked at home on the DJI website to when you have to carry out the flight/operation? I have just been given permission to fly in a restricted zone near and airport but the flight isn't scheduled until 7 days time. So could I unlock it now or do I ned to wait until the morning of the flight?
How do get in with approval ahead of a holiday? I’m looking at heading away for a week and won’t have internet connectivity there. Hoping I can apply for basic approvals for blue zone ahead of time, as will be offline for most or all of the holiday.
Is this something new? I haven't flown in a while and never had problems. I fly round my yard. I'm cleaning gutters today and thought it would be fun to take the drone up for a look at the 3rd story gutters to see if I have to bother with them but nope, I can't do it without permission. Hey, I was just wondering, do I need to be a commercial pilot to unlock GEO zones? I'm trying to follow all your instructions, but on the DJI website, they want me to attach a letter stating that the drones are being used for commercial purposes?
You don't need to be a commercial pilot. It sounds like you want to fly in an FRZ. So you just need to show your permission, eg your NSF authorization from NATS or similar.
Jessie, thank you so much for subscribing and letting me know. It means the world to me and is really encouraging. You're an angel and I hope you have a blessed day ❤️
At what stage does ATC approve the request? It looks like it is all just done on DJI's site and the device. What if they don't want you to unlock? Thanks
DJI doesn't have GEO fencing anymore. Check airspace in Altitude Angel app and if it's an FRZ then apply for a NSF from NATs or ATC. Imade this video on it ruclips.net/video/cmX7tF2eM7c/видео.html
Hi there. If you want to fly in the blue zone select the lower options which is to choose to select a zone, click the blue and follow the instructions and you're unlocked. If you want to fly closer to an airport, red or grey zone, you need the top option where you pinpoint you flight area with a polygon selection and you'll be asked for docs. You will need the coordinates of the location and apply to NATS and when you get there email confirmation save it as pdf and upload into DJI and you're done. Go see my playlist of geozone unlocks for vids on this. Let me know how you get on.
They say about 3 weeks but every time I've done it it's been 2 days. I've applied end of week and they've been responding over the weekend. Make sure you launch exactly where you've told them otherwise the drone literally won't take off. Also you'll have to call them when your on site and about to launch to get clearance.
Hi, OK, you need to go to DJI website using your phone or pc to get the authorisation. You then start the RC controller and drone while connected to the Internet and sync the authorisation to RC.
Hi I’ve followed your instructions to unlock but at the end of doing as you advise ; it asks me to upload documents / licences etc ? Any ideas ? Thanks
Yes, if you want to fly in the blue area, an ATC, It's unlocked straight away. If you choose the other option for red ir grey area then you'll need docs, these are FRZs and need get permissions
@ hi yes I’ve since learnt this thanks, the area I wish to fly in is Southend Essex which is majority red zone due to airport close by, in my case though I don’t even want to go high , literally first floor window height and no distance from the location … do you know is there any way around these frz .. ie permanent removal ? Thanks
Great video I watched it a while ago and followed your instructions which allowed me to unlock the zone and have been flying quite happily until yesterday when I was grounded by city airport police they were really nice about it and tried to understand my point but speaking to Airport Control at City Airport. they said I had to get authorisation directly from them and they had nothing to do with DJI fly safe. Please can you point me in the right direction about this because I’m confused. Thank You
I took off in the blue zone near London City airport and did not go above 120m I unlocked on the fly safe website. I’ve been flying there for 3yrs. I have the DJI Mini 3 pro so it will not take off without unlocking first on the fly safe website. According to London City Airport I need to notify them and put in a request at least 21 days before flying to be even considered, whether it be accepted. They also said the fly safe website is not accurate and they do not adhere to it. I find this very strange. I’ve never had a problem there before.
It sounds like they're trying to put fear into you and it sounds off. Unless they have some special powers unique to City Airport which I doubt. I would just call NATS. They're really helpful and will give you the definite answer. NATS work closely with DJI.
Hi Tim Very strange as I’m actuallly from Luton and trying to do a chimney inspection with the red zone by Cockernoe.i have followed your video but my map is showing no zones to unlock so can’t go any further please can u help thanks
Not sure if that made sense but what I’m getting at is when I follow your steps to the point were it says highlight on the map which geo zone there was any any geo zones in any colour on the map to highlight it there Is on the rc2 but not on the desktop version
Ah yes, that's because this video is ni longer relevant to the UK or Europe. CAA told DJI to scrap Geozones. They were too inaccurate. So check on DRONE Assist app your airspace and that will also have the number for ATC. Otherwise put in a NSF application with NATS. See my next video on this. Hope that helps

Hey there ! would you not still need to call the traffic control center ? all the website is doing is unlocking the zone just to fly ! could you please let me know how that works ?
Hi there, no if you're just flying in the blue zone as per this video it's enough. If you want to fly in the RED FRZ then you need to also contact NATS and get authorization and docs to enter on the DJI site to unlock. I live near London City Airport (the other side of the river) and I was able to unlock it on the RC itself. However, what I want to know is do I need any other authorization other than the one I obtained from DJI? Do I need to obtain something from local council or some other authority? Other than trying to fly my drone in the parks and away from the air strip, I don't really have any business flying it here. Do I need to call ATC London City Airport and let them know I am just practising my flight here?
Hi good question. Don't rely on DJI app and always check Altitude Angel. You will be in a CTR but check you're not in a FRZ. CTR just unlock on DJI app and you don't need any local authorization from councils etc. If unsure call City Airport Control Tower and they will advise happily. Stay away from the hospital and beware of helicopters below 400'. In parks stay away from playgrounds etc. Seek permission if privately owned or National Trust. Hope that helps.
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency I called up the ATC but they gave me a URL to check if I can fly or not. The URL give was - maps.aero/nss but that leads to a 404. Are you aware of what the URL might be?
Thanks for the info. After I did an “unlock GEO zone” on my mini 3 pro, I lost the ability to use “Active Track” features when I am flying within that zone. I have latest firmware on my controller and drone. Does anyone experience this? And how do you resolve the issue to make “Active Track” feature available while flying in a GEO zone with an unlock GEO zone license installed into the drone. I am working with DJI flysafe support to resolve the issue….so far support on this is lacking. Thank you.
Hi Alan, you're the second person here to raise this issue. I'm going to have to go out next week and try this myself. Please let me know how you get on.
It will if you want to fly in a FRZ, red or grey zone. If you want the CTR that's blue click the other Zone unlock option and get instant unlock. Let me know hiw you get on.
I have a question....I followed the procedure for flying in a no fly zone and my controller and DJI Mini Pro 3 have been updated with the license. Here is my situation. My drone will be taking off in a non restrictive area but within 500 feet there is a no fly zone. When do I activate the GEO on my controller? Before I take off or when I approach the no fly zone? Thanks
Yes but can I do this when taking off in a non restricted area? The beginning of the flight is fine but after 5 minutes I fly into this restricted zone.@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency
Yes Bob, you can do it the week before in a different country if you wanted. As long as the drone is updated with the permissions then you won't encounter any problems. Just note there's been a very new update to DJI app and it won't lock you out any more. Also the CAA don't recognise their accuracy. So all this means is continue to do what you're doing but is down to you to check your airspace. Use Drone Assist app to check.
Thank you very much for your fast response. I feel better about flying after reading your response. Greetings from Rhode Island USA.@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency
Hi, it will depend on which zone you are entering. Are you UK? Which zone? In the UK if it's a blue zone you won't need any docs and access us instant. For the yellow and red you get asked for supporting docs which will need to be reviewed and will take longer for approval.
When we first purchased the drone i setup the dji account in my name. But my waife actually holds the drone pilots license. Can i just put in her info and still get the zone unlocked, or do i need to make her own dji account?
The owner or person responsible should have an Operators ID, which sounds like your wife, and I'm guessing you also fly and will have a flyer ID. So when adding a pilot for unlock you can have multiple pilots and you select the one flying the drone.
In Canada BC, I am trying to request "Altitude Zone" that usually I can do, but recently it is asking me about "additional files upload" which I don't have. Often the time range selection is not even on the screen so I cant do nothing because it asks for time range and its not available. I feel the website is extremely random and buggy. And previously I could fly in "altitude zones" without unlocking..Thanks for the video!
Hi Mark. That's interesting. My understanding of it in the UK is that technically you do need to make an application and we would need to notify NATS of all the info and exact grid reference. Thgen a simple email confirmation turned into a pdf and uploaded is sufficient. There's more info on this in the play list here if you need more ruclips.net/p/PLwh8qkEAFtjZHBQmwOb7oNGrYT7upL8BQ
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency Hey thanks for reply. I just managed to do it. I literally wrote: "It is a grey “altitude zone” I need to fly in. You know, like 6 months ago they didn't asked for unlocking in "altitude zones" so something changed at least in Canada.
I need help!! Can do all these steps but when you say import to aircraft on mine it says aircraft disconnected. Any idea what I should do? Drone and controller both on
No worries. You can be indoors. Make sure the gimbal is free to move. Switch both devices on and let them sync as normal, then go to the home screen and follow the steps in the video.
@Travel passionate OK. Check both batteries are full. Make sure you have updated to the latest software on your RC controller. Also try connecting to your DJI Gofly app on your phone, if you can't, removed and reinstall the app and login again and connect that way. If you have tried all these then you may have a hardware issue and you will need to get it looked at under the warranty.
You used 'roof inspection' for the reason, was this a true statement and if not could this create issues if something went wrong during the flight? Also, would this mean that it is safe to assume 'recreational photography' would not be a sufficient reason? Thanks 😁
Well, there's always a roof nearby. Entering these zones is a bit of red tape tick box exercise and is automated. But your data is collected and so if there was a complaint about a drone around the location you're operating in then it's easy for the authorities to follow up. I will be doing another video shortly on the subject as there are so many queries people have around these regulations. So please keep an eye out for that.

Thanks Mate. How frustrating that I have to search RUclips for an answer to this! DJI sent me the unlock code and a list of "click heres" but none of it worked from Mini 3 Pro. Can't believe it's so difficult to implement this basic and necessary function. well, at least there is YOU!

Thank you so much sir. I'm unlocking as I type.
Amazing, safe flying 🫡
Hello sir,
Thank you so much for a detailed video.
So helpful!! Thank you so much!!
You're so welcome!
Can you do a video on how to get permission form luton airport to allow you to u lock the zone
Yes buddy, already done, there's a series in my playlist you can checkout. This is the first ruclips.net/video/cmX7tF2eM7c/видео.html
Thanks you so much for that help.
Hi Marc, you're more than welcome. I'm pleased it helped.
Thanks a lot, You save my life before leaving for a leave. Very instructive, short and straight to what new droners do need.
From Canada and Algeria
One Question, I am going to SFO. Next week. Do I Need an other unlocking process for SFO Airport? Thks. for Responding
Thanks buddy. Yes any time you fly in a certain zone you'll need to do the application for the new zone and be aware they are time sensitive. If you are in a more sensitive FRZ right by an airport you'll need to acquire written approval which I show ruclips.net/video/cmX7tF2eM7c/видео.html
Hope that helps. 🫡
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency Thank you my dear, I am Traveling to Downtown Fresco. I Shall not be close to the SFO Airport. I Shall apply very soon for that.

Just what I was looking for... thank you :)
Same, there seemed to be bits of into everywhere and its not straight forward. I just feel DJI should make it easier to find these things out straight of the bat. BTW if you're interested I'm posting a deep dive into the RC controller this afternoon 😃 my wife's told me to stop droning on 🗣 she thought she was funny 😏

How did you SELECT the zone at luton airport as I dont see any restrictions when i add mine but cant fly my drone when i get there
DJI Geo Zone lock has been removed in the UK and EU. Not sure why you're not able to fly.
What screen message are you getting when you try and launch?

Thanks Miguel

Thanks buddy. Really kind of you to let me know. Have a blessed day and happy flying.
A clearer explanation of how to get Authorization on the DJI Website as I found no clear instructions on the site. Thanks!
Thanks James, appreciate it. To be honest I found it a nightmare which is why I made the video. Do you use your drone for work? Did you see the video last week, I put in a cheeky application to fly in a red zone FRZ right by the airport? Tomorrow I'm posting the result. What a bunch of red tape 😵💫
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency I use my drones for Real Estate Photography and Large Commercial buildings. I've tried to get authorization while onsite but that has only worked a few times. Glad it was helpful!
Tim
Very informative video thanks
So nice of you
Excellent video. Did everything, imported the license into the drone. Got to the spot and couldn't unlock it. Perhaps I was out of the time I specified, could that be it? Frustrating! :)
I assume it was just a CTA, blue zone. It should be 48 hours.
Hi, great upload. How long does the unlock last for? Could I do this a day or two before and be fine when on restricted site that much time later? Thanks in advance. Si.
Hello Si, it last, from memory, 48 hours. But you can set it up well in advance.
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency Brilliant, thank you Tim.
@SimonWattsWILDPresentationsUK your welcome
Hi there, you can unlock now. You had already put in the dates so it will work on those dates.
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency yes of course. I forgot you input the dates. Thank you 👍🏻
How do get in with approval ahead of a holiday?
I’m looking at heading away for a week and won’t have internet connectivity there. Hoping I can apply for basic approvals for blue zone ahead of time, as will be offline for most or all of the holiday.
DJI have stopped GEO fencing. So check on Drone Assist app. If you then see you'll be in FRZ contact ATC or NATS
Is this something new? I haven't flown in a while and never had problems. I fly round my yard. I'm cleaning gutters today and thought it would be fun to take the drone up for a look at the 3rd story gutters to see if I have to bother with them but nope, I can't do it without permission. By the time I get all that done I could have cleaned the gutter...
What country are you in? It was scrapped in the UK and EU.

Hey,
I was just wondering, do I need to be a commercial pilot to unlock GEO zones? I'm trying to follow all your instructions, but on the DJI website, they want me to attach a letter stating that the drones are being used for commercial purposes?
You don't need to be a commercial pilot. It sounds like you want to fly in an FRZ. So you just need to show your permission, eg your NSF authorization from NATS or similar.
Quick question- if you are planning or need to fly in an NFZ near an airport, do you not also need permission from NATS / local ATC as well?
Hi Duncan, thanks for dropping by. Yes you do. So if you go to my playlist for Geozones I made a video series on NSF application through NATS

Before I submit my application, I am required to send in files, I noticed you wasn't asked that. can you help me please?
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency thank you for the response. So after submission, how long does it often take to hear from NATS
They say about 3 weeks but every time I've done it it's been 2 days. I've applied end of week and they've been responding over the weekend. Make sure you launch exactly where you've told them otherwise the drone literally won't take off. Also you'll have to call them when your on site and about to launch to get clearance.

Use website on drone controller OR phone or laptop!???
Thanks
Thnx for the video, zone was rejected, now waiting for custom to pass...

Thanks for letting me know.
Thank You
To best advise you can you tell me what your coordinates were of your take off point and where did you fly to?
That’s what I thought I will call Nats and undate you with what they said.
Hi Tim
Very strange as I’m actuallly from Luton and trying to do a chimney inspection with the red zone by Cockernoe.i have followed your video but my map is showing no zones to unlock so can’t go any further please can u help thanks
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency ah thank you for the reply I did read that some were else is it fairly straight forward to do Shame as I’m based 2min from the airport and 80% of my work falls within the airports red zone

Have my authorization on the dci account for a GEO zone in Sweden, but unable to get it into my controller. Controller in connected to wifi. How to import it to my controller? Have I forgotten something? I do unlock geo zone but no unlocking licenses.
Mmm, hard to know which step is missing. Check the RC is definitely loged into your DJI account. Next just start again, it only takes a few minutes.
Hey there ! would you not still need to call the traffic control center ? all the website is doing is unlocking the zone just to fly ! could you please let me know how that works ?
Hi there, no if you're just flying in the blue zone as per this video it's enough. If you want to fly in the RED FRZ then you need to also contact NATS and get authorization and docs to enter on the DJI site to unlock. All is explained in these videos ruclips.net/p/PLwh8qkEAFtjZHBQmwOb7oNGrYT7upL8BQ

I have a question....I followed the procedure for flying in a no fly zone and my controller and DJI Mini Pro 3 have been updated with the license. Here is my situation. My drone will be taking off in a non restrictive area but within 500 feet there is a no fly zone. When do I activate the GEO on my controller? Before I take off or when I approach the no fly zone? Thanks
Because you set the date already you can sync the controller and drone now in advance.

Hi, it will depend on which zone you are entering. Are you UK? Which zone? In the UK if it's a blue zone you won't need any docs and access us instant. For the yellow and red you get asked for supporting docs which will need to be reviewed and will take longer for approval.
Then it won’t hover? Then intelligent flight mode will work perfectly?
Thanks!
Hi. Without unlocking, you physically won't be able to launch. Unlocked and you'll be able to fly as normal.
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency thanks. Great video!

Thank you!!!!
