God wants us to be fit as men, capable of defending women and others who are weak around us. If you are too skinny be honest with yourself. If you are too fat, be honest with yourself. Seek health and a heart to use your body as a tool to serve others.

I think we still have to be careful with how invested we get into fitness and what our motivation is. I see a big problem currently in younger guys becoming obsessed with how they look and trying to perfect their body in the gym everyday. We need to remember that doing God's will is far more important than our own physical shape and we can serve God from any body. Once again fitness is important, but when we priortize going to the gym every single day over spending more time volunteering and serving others it becomes a problem.

Three Letters: G-U-N (For defending a woman or the weak that is)
It is true that we shouldn't gorge ourselves with food, and should take care of our bodies, but not for the reason of defending the weak. That's like a metal gear solid mindset (not biblical but in my eyes and the eyes of men, respectable).

Yes, it is a very real thing for men. Thanks for covering this subject. When I was younger I hated that I was so skinny. Lifting weights and getting bigger did not change the feeling... What has helped me is focusing more on my health and my real desire. Which is to be the best version of who God has made me to be for my wife, kids, and those that he has called me to serve.

As someone who has always been skinny, I think there's more focus on overweight. We talk about treating overweight badly but I can't count the number of times I've been told to "eat more", even though I eat as much as anyone else. Skinny runs in my family so it's just the way I am.

its rough. 5'8. 21 years old. 132lbs High metabolism and very lean. College student and US soldier. I was able to gain 7 lbs this semester but lost 5 near the end of the 2nd week of November to now due to depression and finals. You've got to be mentally solid to down 3000 + calories a day on top of school. Hard having other soldiers make fun of my body and parents as well even though I do well on the fitness test Definitely going to keep pushing forward and put in more work to gain more muscle. I want to be faithful with the time and money God has given me to build my body to better protect my friends. I love my job in the army and sacrificial love is what im about. Mom, dad, and stepdad served. I know strength and victory ultimately comes from God but I also don't want to put Him to the test but the process is tough

Stick with it, stay disciplined. You may not grow muscle as quick as others. But if you stay consistent and work out smart, then it will come. You already know you are fit, and I'm sure you look good, maybe not superhero build, but I'm sure you look good if you are fit and lean. I'm sure if you work out often, stretch, and eat well, and stay consistent in your walk with God, you will be in incredible shape in a few years

I remember that this happened to me when I was between 13 to 16 years old. I took non-healthy decisions to be thinner in the first year but it only got worse with my health. So I started to excercise my body the healthy way and accepting my body. I remember that when I was 16 I was walking in a mall till I saw what though was a handsome dude, just for a second. I looked back and I realized.... It was a mirror.

I started going on long runs this fall to try to get back in shape. I’ve never consistently ran before in my life. It’s so rewarding for me to be able to get out and push myself to the limit. It really helps me be more confident about my health and I feel like I’m getting so much more out of this great gift from God that is my body. The truth is, it’s great fun and it puts my mind and soul in a positive place as opposed to when I sit around all day and feel like a sloth. Keep accelerating brothers!

Body image is not as important as ppl make it out to be. Yes its good to be in decent shape, enough to perform daily activities but David was relatively weak as a youth because he couldn't fight in Saul's armor, yet he still killed Goliath. And killed a bear and a lion by punching them first. Our strength and confidence come from the Lord. All this talk of confidence is nonsense. Confidence is not the most important thing a man should have; if women don't want you because you're not confident enough, that's on them; they're insecure about not being confident themselves, but again our confidence comes from the Lord.

This is definitely something that goes on way more often than we realize with young men. We can just sort of hide it better and people don’t think to consider that a young guy is struggling with an eating disorder. I’ve never really called it an eating disorder, but I was a very self-conscious chubby preteen and then I shot up like a foot without gaining extra weight. I was ecstatic- but I ended up being 6’4 and 156 pounds as a Junior in high school and at the time I saw nothing wrong with it and secretly loved how thin I was because I’d didn’t “have a gut”. But looking back at pictures I looked cartoonish. Praise God I got away from that.

I can't grow a full beard and it always bothered me when i was younger. Hated my baby face, now that I'm older and still have a full head of hair, it ain't so bad. Also just realize that *everyone* has something they don't like about their body. I've known absolutely beautiful women who don't like certain things about their appearance that the James Webb telescope wouldn't even notice.

I am tall (184cm) and skinny (65kg), any tips to put on muscle at home? I am scared of the gym, I have never been in one and I honestly don't want to. I have some basic equipment like a pull-up bar, some weights and a treadmill. I am at a point where I really need a confidence boost.
To be honest, I appear confident to others, I have open body language and I can be funny at times, but my brain plays some ugly games and ruins the image I have for myself.

Here is a food manifesto that has helped me approach fitness and food from a godly angle; I’m down 50lbs on the year and I’m pushing for more.
    The food manifesto
What is food? Food is the fuel for you body.
When do you eat food? You eat food when you have no fuel for your body, to quench hunger minimally, or in public situations to be polite.
How much food do you take when you eat? You take enough to quench your hunger minimally.
Do I take seconds? No, you never take seconds because you took all you need in your first helping.
How do you eat your food?
However you enjoy eating (whether it is slower or faster) do that and do not eat afterwards.
What should I do if I’m hungry, but I shouldn’t eat? Drink water.
What should I do if I’m tired but I shouldn’t eat? Drink coffee.
What is hunger? Hunger is the body craving food, but it can be placated with liquid.
Note: it is never ok to eat food now just because you will be hungry later.
Never fear hunger, God always brings about good things to you, so learn to not overindulged whenever He does give things to you.

I feel a lot better about myself being built and lean than I did fat. God has blessed us with the ability to go 30 days without food, eating to live and not living to eat is just a normal concept to me these days. Being self aware is not a bad thing, but it can be taken to the extreme.

@@ModelJames13 No, the longest I've personally ever fasted was two weeks. And that was a challenge, resulting in full body tingles and euphoria during waking hours, almost similar to goose bumps. What I was stating is we CAN go 30 days without food, if absolutely necessary.

As someone who is 6’1” and about 145 lbs as a college athlete, I’m not sure what to make of this or how to feel. The whole thing about not caring what other people think is kinda hogwash. How come everyone that’s “only focused on how they look themselves” feels the need to comment on my body? Now I know as a follower of Christ that most of it is spiritual warfare as the enemy knows how to get under our skin, but that only gives me so much comfort since I’m still the one that has to deal with it. This is coming from someone who’s always had body issues and always been picked on for it, both by people that love me and strangers. Hopefully I’m not coming across as bitter, as I’m a fan of your insight and mission for the Kingdom. But I can’t deny how I feel about this topic and that I’m struggling to tie it into our faith and find solace in our King. Peace and blessings man, in Jesus name 🖤

5’8 and 130lbs. Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
I’m sure the slandering we face will prepare us for what God has ahead. I am thankful because it reminds me to lean on Christ during our sufferings and it’s an opportunity to be reminded what He says about us. We can look to Him who is strong. Once we do bulk up, we can look back on God’s goodness and kindness to help us and be reminded to stay humble and give righteous health judgments

I played ball In college but i was your weight when i committed to a pretty solid D1 school. If you're a pitcher - do NOT run a ton.
I personally needed to intake 4500 calories per day to maintain 190lbs (went from 155 to 190). I am around 160 right now (right at 6 foot).
You literally just have to stuff your face with bland, high protein and carb foods - while lifting extremely intensely. High weight, low reps until exhaustion. Look up Mike Mentzer's training style. That's what I did to throw on ~40 lbs.

I was definitely obese as a teenager I was 325, 6'2" in September of 2022. A few months later (August 2023) I was 6'3", 180 lbs. The sad truth is that I was severely anorexic and went weeks without eating real food. I would "survive" by chewing gum and drinking diet sodas. I would "eat" dinner by chewing it up and spitting it out. I've recovered a little, but I definitely regret having lost the weight the way I did. If I tried building muscle as I lost fat, I would have a lot more muscle instead of being kind of skinny but still some pretty obvious fat. I still have trouble eating real food; I feel guilty about ever feeling "satisfied." Like he said, feeling hungry is a good thing in my mind.
