I have been watching your videos for some time and I have learned a lot. I just recently changed to keto/carnivore lifestyle. I am still learning and making changes and there has definitely been some challenges.. I'm really good about making things myself instead of buying stuff in the store, but there are times that I would buy certain things because it was easier and I needed the convenience at the time for example. If my husband and I wanted burgers I would buy bread and I would buy sourdough bread and it only had 3 ingredients. I knew I was getting something clean and it felt healthy to me. But since we have given up stuff, bread has been one of the difficulties for some meals... I work with 100 plus people and people have noticed the changes that I have made. And when I talk to them about it, one of the first things they say is they don't bake. They don't cook that they would need stuff that was easier for them.. and some just do not have the time to spend in a kitchen making everything homemade. I also do some traveling and making my own stuff before I go is not always an option. Sometimes it's easier to go to the store and spend $5 to $8 for a loaf of bread/ buns than it is to spend $20 plus dollars to get the ingredients to make something from scratch... So what would your suggestions be if somebody is in a pinch and needs to get something from this store like bread or tortilla shells that they could get?... I buy the siete tortilla shells thinking that they were clean, healthy foods.. and I just learned that they aren't. Thank you for educating us. I'm just trying to do things right and making sure that I am understanding everything correctly. But in my own home my husband and I have mainly been doing animal based but he really wants that hamburger bun.. I personally have not had time to make them from scratch so if I could go to the store and get a healthy version and eat them on occasion that would be easier for me. I have been trying to educate my daughter on this same path but same thing. She needs some things that are a little more convenient because of her work schedule.. sorry for the rambles. I enjoy watching your videos. I enjoy watching your son being involved in the kitchen . Thank you

The one thing I was waiting for you to add was the HORRIBLE gut issues that many of those ingredients can cause, especially in those of us who have experienced, as a result of plant based foods, IBS, IBD and all those related issues. It took a number of years and lots of research to figure out on my OWN that all sugars, sugar alcohols, fibers, gums, starches and fod maps(notice the common denominator--PLANTS) were killing my gut, causing cramping, explosive diarrhea alternated with constipation! The exclusion from ALL of that finally has given me relief at the ripe old age of 73. Meat has NEVER done that. So yes, keep spreading the message about doing keto/carnivore correctly. Thank you!

I was really disappointed to see that ALL, yes every single one, of the mayo at my local store is made with soybean oil! I checked out another store and found two brands that did not have it in them and they are $7-$12 a bottle! Yeah, I'll just make my own. Today we are doing that and using the mayo to make ranch with as well.

Okay, Maria please explain why LMNT has Maltodextrin??? It's in their natural flavorings. I just got an email from them explaining they only use a very small amount. So it would take drinking 2 packets per day to reach about 1 tsp over 1 and 1/2 years. The amount they said is 0.0004mg. So do you consider this okay even though you just stated to stay away from foods with Maltodextrin. Please advise.... Another thing I heard about Flax Seed is it actually good for you. It gets out the bad estrogren. It's good especially for Menopausal women. So much conflicting information against each other here, my head is spinning. Who are we suppose to trust?
It is a carrier for the flavoring. But it is a microscopic amount. You would need to drink 125 packets of LMNT to equal the sugar in one egg. :)

I have learned so much from your videos. ❤ after 2 months into “ketovore” Eliminated everything with sugars or maltodextrin because I would get migraines. last week I made fat bombs but added a bit of cream cheese with stevia instead of the bacon. I ate so many 😅 and that was my Big mistake! Spent a day with a migraine and feeling hungry and terrible. Took me two days to recover. Ate boiled eggs until I felt better.
Never again! I was surprised Stevia would also cause me to have this reaction. Is there a reason why? I can only take a little bit of Stevia in a day.

I'm curious about your thoughts on the maltodextrin in the flavored electrolytes from both LMNT and Redmond. Both companies say have confirmed that the flavored versions contain it (under the umbrella of "natural flavors"), so I would be interested to know your opinion on that. Thank you!!
It is very much like Magnesium Stearate that is used in making capsules as a lubricant. Small amount necessary in production.
Amounts matter. A product sweetened with maltodextrin having 20g of it, will spike blood sugar and is not recommended. This is 4mg of maltodextrin. There is more sugar in one egg. Ideally there would be none in the ingredients, but this is a microscopic amount. You would need to drink 125 packets of LMNT to equal the sugar in one egg.
@MariaEmmerich I appreciate the reply! I hunted to try to verify the formula, but I can't seem to find anything explaining the math on how that equates. With an egg having 0.6g of carbs, the math ain't mathing for me, so if I'm missing something or if you have a reference, I would appreciate what info you have.
I'm also finding several references that state that even in very small amounts, it is a terrible choice for anyone with insulin resistance or diabetes. I'm honestly confused about why there are certain ingredients, like corn fiber and flax, that are a full stop for you and other keto/carnivore doctors, but that there's still an endorsement for products containing maltodextrin despite the fact that it's produced using the same ingredients you all tell us to avoid.
I understand sponsorships, but I am so conflicted. I chose not to accept a sponsorship from LMNT because I don't believe in the product. The support from big names in the community seems bought and paid for, and that is frustrating.
There are 5mg in a packet. An egg has 500mg sugar. Other products like Redmond have similar amounts. So the math is correct. The carb count of 2g comes from citric acid which doesn't affect glucose like most carbs (more like a sugar alcohol in that way). We avoid maltodextrin because it is basically a sugar. But 5mg of sugar, compared to 600mg in an egg, it isn't a concern about blood sugar in a person in any way. Most products using maltodextrin as using it as a sweetener in 1000 times higher amounts.
The point here is that if we are supposed to be afraid of 5mg sugar in a product, then we have to be afraid of eggs. We would never promote any product with a chemical like sucralose in it (which is why we don't promote the products you just promoted on your channel that have sucralose in them, even though we really like the people behind that company). So ripping us apart on your instagram for promoting a product with 5mg sugar in it and then immediately promoting a product with sucralose in it, is really something. Glass houses and all.
@craigemmerich I didn't rip you apart. I shared exactly what I did here with the speculation that it seems hypocritical. Many people, including myself, experience a blood glucose response from that small amount of maltodextrin, so for you both to dismiss that as impossible is irresponsible (and dismissive, and frankly a little jerky).
I'm not the only one who is used to having comments deleted from your RUclips or social media, so I won't be surprised if this disappears, too, as it's not supportive of your stance.
To reciprocate your verbiage, the point is that talking about the dangers of maltodextrin only to have a promotion of a maltodextrin containing produce seconds later is laughable and hypocritical.
Poison is poison, regardless of dose.

love your cooking videos and educational videos... As far as cooking I always love variety and ideas in a carnivore life style. I realize it is pretty straight forward...however if you can write a cookbook on this life style there must be some variety :))) and new recipes.

I don’t spf but my face at 46 I’d like to prevent wrinkles but with a natural one that’s not thick white paint! PS carnivore has been awesome for my skin this past year 😁

I wouldn’t eat any of this, even if you paid me. I try to share with friends and family, but they think I am nutty. Eat real food-period. Thanks for your info and advice! I am gluten sensitive and can’t eat gluten, quinoa, corn nor rice. All have trace amounts of gluten that make me sick. My friends think that is crazy too. I eat one ingredient foods - and your recipes occasionally. Grateful for your work.

Had to go visit family for 4 days. It totally sabotaged my woe. I did eat small amounts of Italian food and Chinese foods but it tore up my gut. I felt hungry and had digestive problems. I’ve been carnivore for over a year. I couldn’t wait to get back home and get back on the wagon. Today I made carnivore bread and turned it into a bacon and Mayo sandwich (chosen foods Mayo) with butcher box bacon. Then I had one of your high protein hot Chocolate.
I am honestly not hungry. That's the whole goal of hormone balancing. It boggles the mind how much food I used to eat compared to now and how much better I feel.

Maria, is the isomalt and inulin fiber in choczero bad for you? Ooh, I’ve been eating a good amount of choczero lately! Oh no! I’ve been gaining weight and I haven’t been able to figure out why. Maybe this is the reason! 😮

It's the products we put on our skin as well. Also, there's a lot of additives allowed in the US that are banned in other countries. The FDA needs to be held accountable as these products are proven to cause cancer and diabetes. Big money markets.
