Inspiration for a story often comes from real life and personal experiences. When incorporating these personal stories into your work think about how you are portraying these real people and if it’s in a favorable and truthful light. If not, change the names and maybe even put a bit of a spin on the story to avoid later claims of defamation. We would hate for your hit movie to be entangled in a defamation lawsuit because the person you talked about can easily identify themselves and the events that occurred.
