Maybe a good idea to replace all the rubber coolant hoses. They are getting old now.
I agree👍🏻
Do you still own this BMW ? How many miles it has ? Would you say its daily driveable ? And what would you advise to look for when purchasing one? I'm looking at one with ~120k miles
Maybe convert over to a different style clamp as well. Maybe t-bolt?
man you should see the oil leek situations ive got going on right now with my 2005 e60 530i , pretty sure the ccv is blocked which in turn has blown all the top gaskets , you know the ones rocker ,oil filter house and oil cooler ect , also previous owner had to replace the electric water pump and main coolant pipe before i got it , but know what i absolutely love the car , i think e60 is just such a superb car and the n52 even tho its lacking a bit of low end and mid range power i still think what a lovely buttery smooth engine with a nice top end , best car ive ever had in 23 years so if it needs something doing i dont care and it will always get either genuine bmw or oe parts , another thing is my brother has a golf R mk 7.5 and sister a new bmw 135i (yes the bloody 4 pot one) and there lease payments every 2 month is more than my maintenance bill for the whole year , so even tho there older cars with for sure way more maintenance they still work out way way cheaper , and also i get to drive in a car that cost someone £41k albeit 15 years ago for just over 10 % at £4.5k , so give me a older high maintenance car over a new and expensive car any day of the week , but your doing that car and the e60 proud which is no bad thing , keep it up mate
Cheers mate, yeah I have no issue overhauling the engine and doing what needs to be done to get it running perfect. I completely agree, much prefer owning older cars for a better price👌🏼
Pressure test the system!!!
I reckon the rubber has failed under the jubilee clip, depending how much metal pipe is inside the rubber one you sometimes move the clip away from the end of the rubber pipe and re clamp onto a fresh piece of pipe.
Yeah I’m thinking of doing that if it’s still leaking. I will be replacing the pipe altogether when I do the waterpump👍🏻
George Austers Sounds like a plan dude, I’d replace any hose clamps with proper Uk made branded “Jubilee” clips too
I would have a good look at the bottom of the radiator. The older E39 and E46 were known for them bowing and starting to leak at around 12 or 13 years old. It isn't immediately obvious either as the bottom is well hidden by the fan shroud.
The radiator seems very dry all round mate
That is good then as they can be a PITA to change and bleed. On the earlier cars there wasn't anything supporting the bottom of them, which sort of allowed the pressure and heat to distort them eventually. Good luck with finding the fault!
Has the water pump been done before? When I bought my 130 earlier this year with 84,000 miles I did the water pump and thermostat straight away. I would just do it and get it done, then it'll be good for at least another 5 years
It was replaced before yes
Another great video 📹 👏 👍
Thanks brother!
That hose is not fun to replace, bmw sells only as a whole pipe , it connects from water pump to side of the engine block . It’s expensive too , but you can buy aftermarket hose that Rein makes and try to replace just the hose . Also other end of that pipe that connects to the block has rubber gasket or o ring that’s prone to leak too .
Isn’t it just the tiny rubber bit that connects the hard pipe to waterpump?
George Austers yes it is ,but bmw doesn’t sell just the rubber part , you would have to buy the whole pipe with rubber part on it , but you can get aftermarket rubber part from Rein and then replace it . I had to do that on my 530i .I had a same leak on my 530i in same spot like your car .
Wow what a fab car I have a 320 ci and would love a 130....time to look I think
Really are great cars!
You are very unlucky man about this car mine BMW 1 serie 118i 06 modell like sad before no problems and only small problems so I really hope you fix all problems now beacuse BMW 1 series such a funny car to ride and its a great car overall;)
