As someone who went to Bristol for uni and ended up staying for the city, it’s great seeing Stephen create a show that showcases what makes this place so unique unlike anywhere else in England
@@jenniferwightwick5158 I love Bristol, but prefer my home city of Bath 🙂 Bristol has beautiful architecture, with a mix of modern and Georgian and Victorian.
Despite an unpromising first 20 mins, his show the Outlaws REALLY picks up and I've thoroughly enjoyed the first 4 eps. A sort of crime thriller...moments of genuine suspense and warmth. Would recommend!

Many years ago I taught high school classes to young offenders at a drug rehab. Many of the students were like Dave. One guy broke into a lakeside cottage in the middle of the night and decided to cook himself bacon and eggs. He sat in front of the tv and ate on the couch, but started to watch something on tv. Eventually he was found, asleep on the couch.
I'm 2 episodes in and I can't decide if I'm watching line of duty, this is England or extras. Absolutely outstanding. Best role Stephen Merchant has ever done as well.
I'm Welsh but the west country is like my second home. So glad Bristol is getting some attention in TV land and it's coming from their most famous son. Sorry Banksy but nobody knows what you look like
I know not all of us can be kind to the Welsh in the west county, but just wanted you to know I like your history, people, and pronounce almost all your words correctly haha
All the guests reveal their shortcomings, and goofs to GN. I think it's very refreshing to know that superstars are humans just like the rest of us. That's what makes GN the top host to me.
Uhh no. I don't think the portal Fandom would be this quiet about it if their favorite character's voice actor was a serial killer. If you don't know what character I'm talking about it's Wheately.
Born in Bristol, grew up in the areal. Funny that he said that one doesn't associate Bristol with crime…? I've spoken to a lot of people from Bath who won't got to Bristol even though it's only 12 miles away…"it's far too dangerous!" Lol!

@@DomWeasel Unless you grew up in Bristol, in which case you still had no clue who he was but you knew the name because it was used in schools for House names or something.
I REALLY think it would be prudent for these clips to have the guests listed in the description!! It is so annoying to see a flash of some intriguing looking guest and then having to google for this specific episode in order to find who s/he is!!!
Born & Bred Bristolian, and proud of it..... Its not as bad as its being portrayed. Steve hails from the same suburb as myself in quite a nice & tidy middle class area. The drug issues are mainly in the rundown areas ' I'm sure even your own towns or cities have there problematic issues.
To be honest I think Amy Farrah Fowler would have been really happy with David/Stephen Merchant's character. I was rooting for him, he seemed like such a mensch!
As a Bristolian I can assure you that Stephen's accent is pretty widespread throughout the city. Although Bristol's about the seventh largest English city it doesn't have a great many famous sons, so the accent isn't as widely recognisable as, say, scouse or geordie. I've read comments before from Americans saying Stephen's accent sounds Irish or Welsh. Well, neither really, but Bristol is a rhotic accent, like Irish, where the 'R' is pronounced strongly, especially at the end of words. The Welsh accent isn't rhotic but the inflection, especially in South Wales, isn't always that dissimilar from the Bristol accent.
@@gdsongwriter Thanks for that, very interesting. I’m a non native English speaker living in Ireland for over a decade and I was surprised to hear the similarities.
