This is still my favorite SportsCenter of all time. I wish they still had it. Johnny Carson never changed his theme so why couldn't SportsCenter? This was back when it was must see and all the anchors had charisma and personality unlike today.
because unlike johnny, ESPN appealed to a different demographic, as for the anchors, they still have charisma and personality, unlike back then with their constant one liners and blandness. god, grow up.
Exact date should be June 20, 2000. The day beforehand, Red Sox pitcher Brian Rose ( 0:28 ) got the loss in a 22-1 Yankees victory at Fenway (ouch), and Jeremy Mayfield used Earnhardt's patented move against him to pass him on the last lap at Pocono ( 0:36 ). Never underestimate what you can do with Wikipedia.
I did not know that but this means it was rolled out on the same day of the first ESPN Sunday Night MLB opener, a game in Cincinnati that did not sellout, unlike the traditional Monday opener that did before MLB added this Sunday night game against the Cardinals.
@@nicholasmedovich8691 Yes, though they were similar or same basic theme that this became a derivative of. Before sometime in 1989, they had a totally different SportsCenter theme. Since 1989, all of them have had a somewhat similar sound to this one up to today. Just remixes which became this one. Then in like 2000 or 2001 or 2002, they remixed this one with rock and pop and drum beat sound and still use variants of it to this day from what I have seen.
Best Sports Center theme by far. Did not remember any other themes prior to this one as we did not have cable until 1997 and I was too little before. The current one today and they have used for like 20 years since 2001 or 2002 has been a mixed variant of this one with more of a drum and rock beat to it and slightly modified over the years, but still same basic theme to this one. And before April 1994, and since 1989 I believe, they had other original ones from John Colby that were good this became a derivative of it or them. And this one clearly is the best one.
This intro adopted around May 1999 and lasted until Summer 2000 period when ESPN introduced new SportsCenter logo and all-intros, the previous one is very familiar as also to some ESPN programs for this graphics period used from April 1994 until May 1999, and later adopted an custom blue version by Interactive in the following year. This theme music from April 1994 have became iconic, despite at the time recently adopted Tabloid format in this cable channel, that pioneered since 1988 from WSVN Channel 7 Miami, FL.
That set look different when it was back in 1994 because ESPN was building an new studio for the then-newly look SportsCenter when it debut in Summer 2000.
Ah, remember when TV had proper themes? Jingles? Full on songs? Things you could hear in the background and know what time it was or to hurry up and get back to your spot? Streaming isn't killing TV. People wouldn't stream shows otherwise. TV is killing TV. They forgot their roots, what's worked for so long.
If you find the music beds ESPN used for SportsCenter baseball highlight packages from late 1999 through 2001, that would be cool. Watch any of the uploaded highlights for baseball in 2000 and you'll notice them.
Back when sportscenter hit on a different level
Oh did it ever
90s was the best. We had so many great athletes, sportcenter and ESPN covered the NHL, and times were just better.

@@sillygoose635 good, but the audience disagrees
The charisma and one liners seem forced today and more natural coming from Dan Patrick, Kenny Mayne, Stuart Scott, Rich Eisen, etc.

Nice job figuring it out! This was the 1 AM version from June 20th to be specific.
Happy 22nd Anniversary of said broadcast!
Know what happened at the start with the Lakers?
@@EpicTyphlosionTV Nothing worth celebrating!
Sunday, April 3, 1994 was when this theme made its debut
Were there other themes before this??
Yes. The actual theme was in a major key, not minor.

Oh yeah.....before social media....such a lovely time when were not forced to look at twitter handles all day....
No one is forcing you to look at Twitter now.

this was the GOAT opening
Something about listening to sports commentators with a slight saxophone on the background that’s just perfect! Idk why but it is lol

How did we stray so far from this golden era?
Rapper Cam Ron sampled this theme in 2003. I KNEW it was of ESPN...
Today it’s a crummy business but back then it was a way of life.
Brings back memories, thank you
