They WERE the show. Only time that was case with Sportscenter. People I knew planned around the start of the Big Show. The show Sports Night had Dan and Keith's inspiration all over it. It was too bad Robert Guillome fell ill and then passed. His character was as strong as anyone on television that first season.
"And...the whiff..." SportsCenter and ESPN revolutionized television sports. And these two guys were the best ever. Props also to Kenny Mayne, et al. And I will never understand the hatred for Chris Berman. I miss those old days when I watched every day. I still listen to Dan Patrick in the morning as his voice is an underscore to life. Thanks for this magical moment.
I love how these two are reflecting on the early days and how Dan brings up how they had a great owner back then, as if pretty much inferring that ESPN doesn't have that now. Cuz after all, Dan is right! ESPN was about sports back then, now it's more about the drama surrounding athletes and their lives off the court/field/etc. It sucks so bad now, i loved Kieth and Dan, and then adored the next duo almost as much, Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen, (i think that's how his name is spelled), who they took over as the new primary anchors for sports-center in the late 90's to early 2000's.
Ryan Hollins isn’t on SportsCenter lol, he’s probably an unpaid guest, or low paid. Whenever Max and Stephen A aren’t on, just ignore First Take. It’s always shit without them, it’s not just Ryan.
when I was nine year old I had surgery and it was Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick doing sports center and that was the first time I remember watching SportsCenter and I'm a huge fan of Keith and a huge fan of Dan Patrick's and I miss them both on television and miss them both on she's on the news and on Sports and same thing with Dan Patrick he they are both great at what they do and they are great storytellers and great people and I hope they're doing well wherever they are
With all due respect to Brett "The Hitman" Hart: Keith Olbermann & Dan Patrick: The Best There Is; The Best There Was; And The Best There Ever Will Be.
I'm guessing there are young sports fans who will wax nostalgic about a certain podcast or YT channel but if you weren't there with Sportscenter in the early/mid 90's its hard to compare. What a cast of talent who worked their way to the moment! It was its apex, its final form.
Before Rich and Stuart…Keith and Dan. All Legends and superb EXPERTS in their craft. Not a morning went by that I wasn’t up eating my Wheaties and watching ESPN from freshman in high school until about Sophomore in College. TOOK A break to sleep in for a while and then came back to they guys they have now and although the show is still great, nobody compares to these 4 guys that paved the road
I only regularly watched Sportscenter at home during a small window of time when I was in my early to mid 20's. I am very fortunate that that happened to coincide with Olbermann and Patrick doing the show.
Once upon a time, ESPN could do no wrong. These two represent the best of those days. Sports Center used to play continuously from 8am-12pm in my home back in the day it was that good. Then... Stephen A. Smith showed up and it was all down hill from there. Haven't tuned back in since.
I want to vomit thinking of ESPN being on for 16 straight hours....all those reruns of SportsCenter in the same day.......but no question, from what I recall of the late 90s Sportscenter, that seemed like the best era.
If the 90s version of SportsCenter were still a winning format in 2019, you can be certain ESPN would have stuck to it. But in an age where it's easy to find whatever highlights we want on RUclips and other websites, that's no longer the reality. I'm not a fan of opinion shows myself, but the days where SportsCenter could merely focus on highlights and post-game interviews and expect a large viewing audience are over.
This is all we get? After an hour and a half of them bringing back the audience ESPN used to have. I haven't watched ESPN since before Stuart Scott passed away, but this was just awesome. Can't imagine sportscenter any other way, thats why I don't watch it anymore.
The young ones will never know how entertaining Sportscenter was in the 90's. It was just a different world, and you may watch RUclips clips, but its just not the same. You have to put yourself in a mindset of a world with no internet, and if youre young, its just not possible.
Keith is back on youtube with a vengeance. Check out episode #5 of his new show. He's only up to eight shows, and I think they're Monday-Friday. Really lively. Political.
@@sevenfold089 You thought I was talking bad about them? LOL I was talking about ESPN. I remember when these two were doing quality work on that network instead of the trash they put on air now. I guess im an asshole for expecting more from the "worldwide leader in sports." These guys were always quality and now were stuck with this reality tv garbage. Shameful.
Olbermann is not the same, but Dan is. Olbermann’s career has been tainted a little and I don’t respect him as much as I used to. However it was fun to see them together again.
Olbermann - we miss your lecturing, liberal views - which we need in our lives - to keep us in check. Thank you for all you offer to us... the little people.
All the anchors back then had such charming personalities. But they didn't have any charisma like the laundry list of stellar anchors from the 90s and 00s.
Olbermann was lead back to an unknown secure location immediately following this broadcast. What did Olbermann do that he has to remain in seclusion. He launched the careers of Rachael Maddow and Chris Hayes on his MSNBC show as they were commentators for him but only Dan Patrick seems willing to acknowledge the influence of Keith.

These 2 guys were not only professional, they were both very humorous! They made sportscenter worth watching.
key word "were" olberman is a joke now
Nostalgia. These two were the best of Sportscenter. Rich and Stuart were the other dynamic duo. Thanks ESPN for remembering good times.
Dont forget Kenny Mayne and Craig Kilborn..
I never got to see Olbermann and Dan Patrick on ESPN, but I do miss Dan Patrick on football night in America
It's been downhill since then ha.
T'was the best time in all of sports.
I remember, biggest mistake ESPN made was letting them go.
Dan's radio show is very good.

Even if it's just for one night, it's good to see the Big Show again!
Can you upload more clips from this episode? Or the whole thing. Please.
