It is strange that while pro-EU people in both the EU and the UK repeatedly reference the former Empire, Leavers never do. Britain resigned itself to the loss of empire much more readily than the French, Dutch or Portuguese did. Unlike them, Britain never fought to retain any part of the Empire after WWII. I would suggest that the empire is less of a hang-up for the British than it is for some others. These others need to move on.
