Even back in the day, this has always been a tough sport, testing every ounce of strength. It’s called enduro for a very good reason.

Enduro race when racing out of your state:
1st lap: following the local riders and pinning it when they do
2nd lap: you probably lost the local riders but know every landmark and sections you absolutely hate. You may mess up time to time forgetting a certain section is in a way
3rd lap: you know the course now and is absolutely flying
4th lap: your dead inside and wish to quit
5th lap: you finished but very sloppy. You wish you gave up but your happy you finished
Enduro race in state(local)
1st lap: you probably know half the landmarks. So everytime you find a section you know, you treat it like hell
2nd lap: your absolutely flying
3rd lap: still flying but tired
4th lap: your either cruising or wants to die
5th lap: your happy you finished but is now laying on dirt knocked out at the tent

Thats why i prefer to have a bike as lightest as possible without sacrificing durability. A 100pound Carbon Fiber frame would be awesome, but would bend under the riding stress.
