Ge Ge honestly, a good number of real ramen restaurants use msg too. it's the damn reality. msg isn't good for you but it really isn't bad for you either....

The point of instant ramen, is that it costs 30 cents, this absolutely misses the point. If you can afford this, splurge on the good instant ramens, they come with air dried noodles , freeze dried veggies, and soup bases made with actual human taste buds in mind. I reccomend Nong Shim Instan Shin Ramyun Black. It's rich and garlicky and spicy with wonderfully chewy noodles. Pro tip: If you're eating it at home, add a kraft single to the pot for extra creamy and rich broth, and absolutely boil the noodles separately.
ClockworkAvatar i like this tbh, because I already throw the seasoning packets out because im allergic to soy and beans. Also bouillon cubes are not that expensive.
I calculated the cost of making one packet of this homemade seasoning.... and it cost ~$1.81. (Noodle cost not included) WTF, I can get like 10 packs of instant noodles for the same price. The flippin bonebroth powder is expensive as hell. Without it, a packet would only cost ~$0.55. Anyways my point is, THIS IS NOT FOR BROKE COLLEGE STUDENTS! Calculating the fact that one serving of ramen noodles is ~250 calories, it would cost close to $15 for a person to survive off of this per day, compare that to the ~$1.50 you'd spend for regular instant ramen and it's a no brainer. 2 Tbsp bonebroth powder 16c/lb or 1/oz @$1.25/oz 1.5 tsp soysauce powder 64c/lb or 4/oz @$1.10/oz .5 tsp garlic powder 192c/lb or 12/oz @$0.66/oz .25 tsp ginger powder 384c/lb or 24/oz @$0.62/oz .75 tsp dashi powder 128c/lb or 8/oz @$1.61/oz
It's not overcomplicated if you need an alternative to all the friggin sodium (and who knows what other crap) is in one of those packets. People with high blood pressure can't have those. But of course I don't know how much sodium powdered "bone broth," shoyu, and the other stuff has... could be worse, haha...
Dry style ramen with thick dark soy sauce, deep fried crunchy onion and garlic, garlic oil and some chili sauce is also a great option. Less hard-to-find ingredients and very tasty.
I don’t know if instant ramen can be made al dente, but If it can the only way to do it would would be to cover it in boiling water, then put lid on no fire underneath come back 5 mins later. For some reason cooking on stovetop with a active fire always makes it too mushy/soft noodles.
Here's my liquid version of instant ramen soup base, easily transportable in a small Tupperware container (and vegan): mix 1 packet of instant kombu dashi powder, 3 tbsp of light (usukuchi) Japanese soy sauce, 1 tbsp of mushroom seasoning (Vietnamse product; available at Chinese markets), 0.5 tsp Better than Bouillon roasted vegetable broth (or other high quality instant broth), 0.5 tsp marmite, 1 tsp of sesame paste (or 0.5 tsp of sesame oil), 1 pinch of porcini powder (optional). Makes 3 cups of killer ramen broth.
I put in Asian veggies (Napa cabbage, bok choy etc), tomato, leeks/green onions, and an egg. Sometimes I put kimchi, frozen dumplings or spam. The options are endless.
I don't eat instant ramen anymore. But when I used to, I used the packets included plus a good splash of soy sauce, Worcester sauce and white venigar. Sometimes I add a can of tuna too.
Funny thing is...from a food science standpoint.. whats in that bag and those "ingredients you can't pronounce" are essentially the same thing. They come with food conditioners and other ingredients to aid with mouth feel as turning a sauce/broth into a powder, you get quite a substantial loss of volatile compounds.
I Love this! I really wanna try and make this. I loved instant Ramen but I always wanted it to be more natural and healthy and now it can be. Thank you really awesome video!
Ditto on that. Good luck finding the suggested ingredients in this video in any of my local supermarkets or grocery stores. Sure I can order on Amazon but I thought the whole deal was about availability and convenience. Ordering exotic spices or whatever on line doesn't strike me as being especially convenient or time saving.
It's a great idea, and it sounds delicious, but all those powdered ingredients aren't readily available. Where can I access them? Please let me know. Thanks!
Just go with bouillon powder/cubes, which can be found much cheaper in stores and is practically the same thing (just Google "stock vs. bone broth" to understand the slight differences).
Chanderson 255 because that is the LOWEST amount they sell for. It is like you are asking why you buy a dozen eggs instead of just one at the super market.
cool.... now make a Tonkatsu? also for anyone who is complaining about the ingredients have you actually looked? walmart has bone broth so does amazon which also has the soy sauce if you buy it in bulk no problem. also Tabi eats here on youtube shows a lot of upgrades to ramen!
I usually eat the chicken flavored indomie, and my recipe is cool the noodles in water, drain *some* water, leave like 1/3 of it or however much you see fit add the seasoning packets add garlic powder add tbsp or 2 of oyster sauce add cheese of your liking (i use cheddar, ik, weird but it tastes good) add parsley (looks cool) if you wanna make it fancy, cut up some scallions and add it while it's cooking, and you're done! if it gets too dry add some water while cooking it, and you can add as much of each ingredient as you'd like.

B Jordan You underestimate just how much ramen people eat. If you're eating ramen every single day you're going to want something better than the crushed up boullion cube they give you in the packet.
A good video. And although in the UK I've not heard of some of the ingredients it embraces the the true spirit of ramen and that's portability and simplicity. Great video!
i upgrade my raman by doing a few things. Not totally portable, but at work or home it boosts. @@Dreamer-zk2tf Sure! another trick i use is to through the noodle brick in the toaster for a little bit before boiling. Adds a little depth of flavor.
I like to strain ramen of it's water before adding anything, leaving jist a little to make the noodles creamy. I usually mix creamy chicken and oriental top ramen 1:1 and add a tablespoon of butter with equal parts worcestershire and tabasco, not enough to make it spicy, but to inhance it's depth and flavor. Seriously good stuff
I have been trying to recreate Shin powder for years. I thought I nailed it tonight, but BONE BROTH. Dude, you have changed my life. (Obviously you are good at ignoring the haters, and I am stunned by how many are here.) Asian ramens are a half-step better than American brands, and only just. Maybe that's because Asian countries sell us an inferior product (don't get pissy; Europeans do it with everything from chocolate bars to olive oil). Or maybe it's because no matter what instant noodle you buy, the products still involve unpronounceable ingredients, and some of us like to have some control over our food. Working a little bit more to get a quality, but still affordable and easy, meal doesn't seem like such a compromise.
I hate people who put so much effort into the broth but not the noodles!! Putting noodles straight into the broth ewwwwww.... proper way of cooking instant noodles is cook noodles as per instructions (minus 1min) and run it under cold water, this gets rid of all the junk off the noodles, it also firms up the noodles.
I put the noodles straight into the flavored puddle so that the noodles absorb the flavored water rather than plain water. I don't ever drink the flavored puddle itself. And if you buy Cup Noodles (aka, the most convenient noodles ever), there's only this one option.
You are so wrong that is actually sad.... What is JUNK OFF THE NOODLES? Do you ever seen a master chef making carbonarra? Tell him to water his noodles.... hahah you are sad. Point is to put noodles INTO broth so noodles can actually get the taste of broth instead of eating tasteless ones.
MORDA the junk he is referring to is most likely the cancerous wax that the noodle manufacturer coats the noodles in to increase the shelf life of cheap ramen.
I just want to point out that there is nothing inherently wrong with "ingredients you can't pronounce." It just means we never came up with a simple household name for the ingredient. Everything has a detailed scientific name for it, we just don't use them.
Am I the only one that: a.) Hasn’t eaten ramen in probably a decade?2.) Thinks the beef packets are best? and lastly). (and actually most importantly...) crush the noodles before cooking to avoid the burning strings of death? Enquiring minds want to know...
1 question? My nephews love ramon noodles...but they drain over half the water and then put the packet in...how would i be able to that? Cause that looks like a lot of flavor.
How bloody stupid. As if we all have these restaurant ingredients lying around or if we even know where to buy them. Get real man. I like ramen but usually just the noodles that I use in other recipes. I also add noodles to home made chicken or beef broth. Yowza! ...and even the packets aren't that bad, especially the ones with 3 or four ingredient packages like hot oil etc. You need not have made this video mate!
Protocol Officer so true. The main hit for instant ramen is the convenience. If you have to go so far, you might as well make normal ramen instead of this.
Do you know how to reproduce the Nissin savory sauce packet flavor? It tastes something like vinegar, oil, something savory? If you know something quite similar. Or this recipe is better. Help!
I am from the Philippines and generally, we Asians (Chinese, Filipinos, Indians, Koreans etc...)have been upgrading instant ramen since it was invented or in short for a longest time than any other group of people.
I made the most delicious ramen today for breakfast. I'll tell you what i added to my ramen so you can make it too. I made the ramen then i added Mozzarella cheese to my ramen to make it super cheesy i realized that my ramen was missing something cause it was bland as hell so i added tapatio to my ramen and it was delicious the amount of spicyness that it had was just right and it was cheesy it was soooo good would make again. I just realized that i probably spelled tapatio wrong if i did feel free to let me know how its spelled and i hope you enjoy this type of ramen as much as i did 😊
I make mine as such: 2 cups boiling water, I break up a little bit the package of hard noodles so they're not so long and drop in, lower heat just a bit and stir occasionally, add 1-2 tablespoons soy sauce, right as the noodles are nearing done I drop in 1-2 eggs and break those apart a bit as well [but not totally and dont stir too much, want to have small egg pieces in the noodles] and its ready when the egg is cooked, and then pour into a bowl and eat, or if like me and cant eat HOT foods I stir in some ice and cool it a bit. The eggs help make them more filling, and cheap as well.
I usually just add in some miso - and cook some vegetables with the ramen. Not the fanciest flavor, but easier to remember to do. Though now I'm curious how well they'd stack flavor wise, especially white versus red miso... to the kitchen!
Can someone please tell me where I can get the good quality powdered chicken bone broth? On amazon there are so many choices and some are too expensive or have other ingredients.
If I don't have soy sauce powder, can I use wet soy sauce instead? I've had soy powder on sticky rice balls once and the powdery mouth feel was not pleasing to me. Does the soy SAUCE powder dissolve well? Is soy bean powder the same as soy SAUCE powder?
Ppl are missing the point, the instant spice packets are filled with ingredients that are not necessarily health, he’s shown how to make it without the ingredients we can’t even pronounce. You know what you are eating when made from scratch.
No grocery stores around me (not even the Asian markets) have some of these powered forms. I'm upset you didn't go into how to make the powdered forms. Like, I know one way is using maltodextrin or whatever but where do I even find that?
Add small cube cut king mushroom, chopped scallions, cucumber thinly slices, canned pork meat cut small cubes, choppped green spinach. One boiled eggs cut 4 portion Best bowl of ramen.
The whole point of instant noodles is how quick and easy you can prepare them. This just defeats that point. If you want to upgrade instant noodles, just fry an egg like a carbonara type of noodle, believe me, it tastes very good. Sorry for bad English, I'm Brazilian
"Now, these little baggies you can find lying around after a weekend. Just gather them up, and voila! -- quick and cheap packets! Might want to rinse them out first..."
OK, but where the fuck do I buy powdered bone broth and soy sauce?. I recommend using chicken bouillon powder and actual, low sodium soy sauce with a splash of garlic powder and ginger powder (all found at your local grocery store). Fuck this.
I’ve tried in the past to make home made ramen seasoning but it came our grainy and didn’t de solve in the water properly. But it had cumin and black pepper and stuff in it
Which chicken bone broth powder did you use? I bought a bootle of powder from Now Sports/Now Foods, which was just protein powder, tasted crap and did not have collagen. Thanks!

He just make a custom made seasoning I gonna try looks good 😋
- Chicken bone powder
- Soy sauce powder
- Garlic and ginger powder
- Dashi powder
- Dried chives
*college students this is for you!*
Only the first 2 of those ingredients are hard to find but I doubt you can buy them cheaply or in quantities that aren’t huge.
Knor Suiza can be used to substitute the chicken bone powder. It's dehydrated chicken stock. It's available at any grocery store.
Thank you very much for your great. Video!!
If you buy ramen in Asian market, you get about 4 different seasoning packs include dried veggies
Yusen Ye my favourite is indomie, grew up eating that in hk so I look for that brand now whenever I go shopping in england
Siba Khin i can prolly send you a box or two, i live in indonesia, indomie are only £0.20 a pack here
Yusen Ye my dollar store has that too, but that could be because Asians own dollar stores
Yep and because you can't freeze dry oil they normally include the oil based flavouring separate too

powdered bone broth.... just for you college students.... just buy asian instant ramen if you want higher quality
갓김치 but only if you're an asian racist!
A lot of resturants use msg as a preservative, not just chinese ones. And it's not as bad as you might think.
Ge Ge honestly, a good number of real ramen restaurants use msg too. it's the damn reality. msg isn't good for you but it really isn't bad for you either....
my thoughts exactly!
It's ironic that people who think that consuming msg is bad, still consuming sugar and salt.
soy sauce... powder? wtf
ikr, never heard of them before
You can find this on Amazon. Good stuff for times you want to add a nice hit of salt and flavor to a rub or broth and do not have refrigeration like camp outs.
go to ur nearest chinese market
Myrkskog 300th like
You don't need to refrigerate soy sauce though do you?

Exactly
My tip would be - throw in some dehydrated seaweed (you can get that easily at any Asian market - they-re small wrinkly things in a little bag or a jar), and or chop up some green onion, just use the normal ramen packets, add an egg and some greens (chopped romaine lettuce is surprisingly good) and presto.
The point of instant ramen, is that it costs 30 cents, this absolutely misses the point. If you can afford this, splurge on the good instant ramens, they come with air dried noodles , freeze dried veggies, and soup bases made with actual human taste buds in mind. AAA AAA Indomie doesn’t have any broth and it’s more like a fried noodle like the Korean fire noodles.
JustATypicalGuy your point?
AAA AAA It doesn’t have any broth

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yah his life is so complicated being rich is so hard. you are dumb if you believe that. rich people have it ez they can do as they please.
vorkev1 tf? Chill dude it was a joke that you took so literal 😂😂. Why are you over complicating life?
It's not overcomplicated if you need an alternative to all the friggin sodium (and who knows what other crap) is in one of those packets. People with high blood pressure can't have those. But of course I don't know how much sodium powdered "bone broth," shoyu, and the other stuff has... could be worse, haha...

Powdered bone broth must be 50x more expensive than the og ramen pack.
Jimmy Nguyen is jus those bouillon cubes.
At current internet prices it would cost about $1.50 per seasoning packet to make.
you can buy them at a butcher for dirt cheap.
Kennedy Jauregui no it's not
Sure, but with 50x less sodium
Ramen = 25 cents. Self made seasoning = $50. No Bueno. For everything else there's master card.
Lawreys lemon pepper seasoning red pepper flakes and cayne pepper what I use and use the seasoning pack taste amazing
Indonesian indomie is good enough for me

Indomie goreng master race
Indomie bangs!!!
@krishna w. mukti
mie goreng or mi seddap ,,best indonesian brands to buy...nothing beats them for instant ramen
Yeeeeees, absolutely delicious those noodles are. They're a staple in Hong Kong too.
This is just making instant ramen with extra steps... just buy instant ramen thats not made here in u.s.
Personally, I use salt, black pepper, onion powder, Parsley and a very hot pepper.
And obviously, the flavoring packet that comes with it.
😄😄

And if you buy Cup Noodles (aka, the most convenient noodles ever), there's only this one option.
that way its like eating pizza crust only and left all the cheese lol
den525 I hate it when people put effort into eating 20 cent noodles
You are so wrong that is actually sad.... What is JUNK OFF THE NOODLES? Do you ever seen a master chef making carbonarra? Tell him to water his noodles.... hahah you are sad. Point is to put noodles INTO broth so noodles can actually get the taste of broth instead of eating tasteless ones.
MORDA the junk he is referring to is most likely the cancerous wax that the noodle manufacturer coats the noodles in to increase the shelf life of cheap ramen.
No officer I would never sell narcotics, I just carry around baggys of soup mix with me
Just put cheese in your ramen. Makes it a hundred times better.
Roshi Dreyar : I do that when cooking Shin Ramyun. The spicy one...
Heathen
Roshi Dreyar TRUE
I need to call the police
gags
I just want to point out that there is nothing inherently wrong with "ingredients you can't pronounce." It just means we never came up with a simple household name for the ingredient. Everything has a detailed scientific name for it, we just don't use them.
Am I the only one that:
a.) Hasn’t eaten ramen in probably a decade?2.) Thinks the beef packets are best?
and lastly). (and actually most importantly...) crush the noodles before cooking to avoid the burning strings of death?
Enquiring minds want to know...
do you have the name of that hot spicy fish one :) ?
If you have to go so far, you might as well make normal ramen instead of this.
guys just buy instant noodle in an asian grocery, they usually have like 20 different sauce and powder packs in there.
Very cool way to meal prep!
Hopefully healthier than those packets
But what brands are you using please?
Do you know how to reproduce the Nissin savory sauce packet flavor? It tastes something like vinegar, oil, something savory? If you know something quite similar. Or this recipe is better. Help!
I am from the Philippines and generally, we Asians (Chinese, Filipinos, Indians, Koreans etc...)have been upgrading instant ramen since it was invented or in short for a longest time than any other group of people.
"Better ingredients. Better flavor." Better pizza? Papa Johns??
He definitely looks at Murilo when he holds the baggie up and mentions finding them on the ground after a weekend.
Having different noodles makes a huge difference!
add coconut milk powder and peanut butter, you can thank me later.
I just realized that i probably spelled tapatio wrong if i did feel free to let me know how its spelled and i hope you enjoy this type of ramen as much as i did 😊
This is for thos that want to customize their own flavor. Sometimes you want to do your own thing.
The eggs help make them more filling, and cheap as well.
i like to add the tomato paste and boullion cubes. sometimes throwing in an egg and garlic.
Did anyone else like JUST eat instant ramen before this video went into their recommended list on RUclips? Is it just me?
If I don't have soy sauce powder, can I use wet soy sauce instead? I've had soy powder on sticky rice balls once and the powdery mouth feel was not pleasing to me. Does the soy SAUCE powder dissolve well? Is soy bean powder the same as soy SAUCE powder?
Ppl are missing the point, the instant spice packets are filled with ingredients that are not necessarily health, he’s shown how to make it without the ingredients we can’t even pronounce. You know what you are eating when made from scratch.
I like how he tryna act like some professional, feels like the funny guy from some show or movie
hahahahaha the blow bag joke had my dying
No grocery stores around me (not even the Asian markets) have some of these powered forms. I'm upset you didn't go into how to make the powdered forms. Like, I know one way is using maltodextrin or whatever but where do I even find that?
Great idea. Is the bone broth mixture low sodium???
Add small cube cut king mushroom, chopped scallions, cucumber thinly slices, canned pork meat cut small cubes, choppped green spinach. One boiled eggs cut 4 portion Best bowl of ramen.
Nothing is worse than having a stomach disease that prevents me from eating anything but broth and popsicles, and watching food videos. KILL MEEE
Fuck this.
calidyme69 I think
Bone broth powder is practically bouillon cube
Go online or an Asian store
This is that, except all powder. Gotta pay for the portability lol
Really? Soy sauce? You can find that everywhere.
I’ve tried in the past to make home made ramen seasoning but it came our grainy and didn’t de solve in the water properly. But it had cumin and black pepper and stuff in it
well, finding ingredients is an issue, and there is no published recipe, or quantity of powder vs quantity of water... not particularly useful.
Which chicken bone broth powder did you use?
I bought a bootle of powder from Now Sports/Now Foods, which was just protein powder, tasted crap and did not have collagen.
Thanks!
