I have a 2022 Thruxton RS, and from the factory it doesn't have the snorkel. So for anyone concerned about rain or whatever, the factory stopped caring with the RS.
Wow. Good to know. Thanks.
Hello; what is exactly there? I mean; that big hole or other stuff? Thanks
Inside the hole is the air filter.
@@dorian_vlogs Yes; of course but I referred to what the other guy mentioned that the RS does not has the snorkel so what is really there? that big hole or other stuff?
@@TheReverb1 oh gotcha bro. My bad.
K&N air filters are oiled. Oil has lubricating properties, so the air is lubricated. Slick air= more air=more power. I did this on my carburated Thruxto and got 17 more horsepower and 4 more torques.
Wow. Good gains.
Full of shit. You might get a few horses but not 17. 😅
Just a thought. Apart from protection it could be drawing in cooler/denser air as it is higher up away from the engine.
Doubt it. The newest models don't have it from the factory.
I would imagine the air is hotter down there and that's why Triumph adds that piece. Also, it looks like the piece does not make the air intake smaller, so there should not be any difference in the air flow.
Makes sense.
If you go out in the wet then water will spray up through the he gap between the frame and guard, straight into your air intake
Never had an issue with water getting up there. 👍
The White Triumph it is only a tube and is obviously designed to stop debris getting into the air box, you've not improved any air flow with what you have done. If you Dino checked it I'm sure you've achieved nothing apart from increasing the potential for water and debris to get into the air box.
@@telbenj from my point of view, that's quite unlikely. I also removed mine last weekend. There were no signs of debris, nor water marks inside of it. Plus, the spot where the snorkel slides into the bike is below the air filter cassette, so, I don't see any chance of getting water or debris on the filter. It seems the snorkel is there only for noise reduction, I think.
You're right. Unless you ride in dirt/mud, you're not getting water or debris up there.
This was my thought
The Thruxton RS does not have the plastic snorkel. I’m sure it’s safe to remove it on older version of the Thruxtons. Since Triumph also remove it themselves.
Makes sense.
Nice vid man. I’m going to try it on mine. The respected TEC bike parts in the UK have recommended removing the snorkel in one of their videos when discussing their DNA performance air filters. They said it added some performance.
Thanks bro. If you ask internet "experts", it doesn't help at all but less air restrictions and a easier path to the engine makes for less effort for combustion to happen. A better filter and less restrictions makes sense to me. Let me know how the filter works out. 👍
Because the aperture is the same size in the snorkel as when it's removed I'm not sure if it's tinkering for tinkering sake!
Probably. Makes sense.
@The White Triumph Great video! Thanks for it. Two questions: 1) did you noticed some strange behaviour on the bike, in high rpm for instance? 2) It requires to do ECU auto tune 12 minutes after snorkel removal? Thanks again ;-)
No change in the bike's behavior other than it sounds better at wide open throttle. No ecu tuning required. It's not connected to anything electrical so you won't have any issues there. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching. 👍
Thanks for this. Anything to improve intake noise is good as far as I am concerned! :)
You're welcome. I agree completely. Every little bit helps. 👍
I have 4/2019 1200 I fell off it in low speed not much damage, but it seems to be in limp mode. How can I reverse this? Cheers thanks a lot.
What about when washing the bike ? You think the water can get through the intake?
Only way is if you aim the hose directly down there. The filter stops water and debris from going up into the throttle bodies. You can't get water up there unless you remove the side cover. Hope this helps.
Tried this free mod today. I live in a tiny city country and peak hour riding are mosly between 2500 to 4000rpm. The torque is definetly better in that range. The bike jerks less at high gear, low speed. Cant vouch for 6000 to 7000rpm, but general pulls feel the same.
Awesome!
Your bike looks great. What kind of fairing is that?
Thanks. It's the factory fairing.
Nice video. That GoPro has good quality. Is it handheld or on your head?
Thanks. It's sitting on a small work bench next to me.
Oh ok. Well it definitely has great quality. Might get one eventually.

Ok so after some months can you tell me if everything it’s normal ?
It's been about 3 years since I filmed this. Everything is good. The newer thruxton's don't come with that piece anymore.
hi ! Are there two snorkles, in both side of the bike or only in the left side ? thanks !!
Left side only.
@@dorian_vlogs if you install a kyn air filter maybe os better than remove the snorkel. What do you think about it?
I'd definitely put my money on k&n but if you remove the snorkel and install a k&n filter, it can't hurt.
@@dorian_vlogs wait….so you took away the snorkel to remove restriction, then installed a K&N that increases restriction!! The paper OEM filter has far less restriction. The only benefit of those oiled up synthetic filters is the ability to re use by washing them. Not worth it in my book. Stay with OEM to maintain the most airflow and maintain the air to fuel tune within the ECU
@@Ceagles6 I didn't install a k&n. The oil restricts air flow. I kept the stock filter.
The parts called a snorkel - my understanding is some people remove it, while others cut it down. It makes a slightly different intake sound with it removed.
There is definitely a difference in sound. Sounds very much like a carburetor.
@@dorian_vlogs Yes, like a carb!
@@scottroberts4551 that's right. 👍
Did you get a 30% gain in power?
At least 30% 🤣🤣🤣
Torx 15 for the screw
My ‘23 RS doesn’t have a snorkel.
Interesting.
Neither does a buddies newer model Scrambler.
@@craig4fsu weird. I guess they changed it for yours. Good to know.
Yeah, I popped off the side cover when I first got it and there’s just a hole in the breather box.
@@craig4fsu triumph engineers watched my video 😂😂😅
great job! Did you saw some improvement in performance?
I feel like I did. It could be in my head but it feels a bit more responsive. I know you can hear the difference if that makes any sense. It almost sounds like carburetors did on old bikes. Thanks for watching. 👍
@@dorian_vlogs thanks for the reply, if you make any other mod I´ll see the video without hesitation. From buenos aires , Argentina . Take care. All best
@@eliseogozalvez7089 👍 and thanks for watching.
Has no value to taken this off. It's a British bike designed for British weather.
Think it might be a breather noise baffle ? Just a suggestion.
Possible.
I put KnN filters on
Notice any difference?
Made absolutely no difference to my bike or sound, so I’d leave it alone
This wasn't a sound modification. This was to help it breathe better. Hence the title, thruxton breathes better.
removed mine in 2016
