@@sophiew1967 My wonderful mate Rich bumped into Daevid Allen in Glastonbury. We'd both liked Gong for years. He went up to him and said "I know you probably get this a lot but I just want to say......" and before he'd even finished Daevid Allen just blanked him and walked away. Maybe Daevid Allen was just having a bad day. Maybe he's a wanker..... but tbh we just both laughed about this. Sometimes ALL people are dickheads.

My stepson is a brilliant guitarist, and has a 3 man-band of his own,
Since he heard some of the gong recordings, live and records, he's completely into the psychedelic sound of gong now, he plays terrific jams now!
    (he normally plays Hendrix-stuff)
Gong's world is still alive and kicking! Apparently an inspiration for the young musicians of today!

i’m only 18 and i’m here by search so yea i suppose Gong is an influence on younger musicians like myself but i’d say even more so is the whole era of exploration that is the 1960’s like the canterbury/cambridge scene and the fluxus movement in classical with John Cage and Stockhausen La Monte Younh post bop free jazz and the beginning of fusion it truly seems most artists that came form the 60’s were all pushing towards the unknown i know this is 70’s but i think of Daevid Allen i think of the 60’s like soft machine

Yeah, though it's doing the first half of the decade a disservice to forget Motown, Dylan and the Folk Revival Movement, as well as the Beatles/British Invasion, which formed the backdrop to the period 1966-73. To me, the magical period is two decades long--1955-75--from (about) the start of rock and roll to just before disco. Am I right?
