  • We're continuing our review of the Ramirez guitar line, featuring Gordon O'Brien and Grant MacNeill. In this sequence Gordon and Grant are looking at the Ramirez 130 Anos, or 130th Anniversary Model.
The Ramirez 130 Anos classical guitar is based on the 1990s model E series guitars, developed from designs conceived by Jose Ramirez III. Amalia Ramirez created the 130 Anos guitar to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Ramirez workshop in Madrid. affordably priced, all-solid-wood instrument for the serious student of classical guitar.
These instruments feature all solid wood construction, an asymmetrical 6 top-strut fan brace pattern, a unique custom soundhole mosaic rosette and custom Ramirez label. The headstock shape is the standard modern pattern associated with Ramirez guitars.
The design features are uniquely Ramirez in decoration, tone, and quality of sound and materials. These guitars are custom built for Ramirez in limited runs, by select Spanish Luthiers. They are specifically and uniquely built for Ramírez. Although their construction is not directly done by the Ramírez workshop, all guitars are inspected and adjusted in her workshop by her craftsmen under her personal supervision.
Ramirez 130 Anos guitars are reasonably priced yet high quality Spanish-made instruments and enjoy great popularity with serious students of the classical guitar. They are a reflection of the consistently excellent tone and balance of Ramirez guitars at any price level.

Thanks for the reviews, are you planning to review the guitarra del tiempo in the near future?

Hello Jeff, We have not yet done a video of the Del Tiempo yet but that said, it is exactly the same guitar as the 130th and simply a new name for the 125th & 130th anniversary series model. It features the same wood species and identical interior bracing pattern so you can treat the video featuring the 130th as a true representation of the Del Tiempo.//Grant MacNeill, Classical Guitar Specialist, The Twelfth Fret Guitar Shop

The Ramirez Del Tiempo I bought from 12th Fret sounds different, nicer than my Ramires 125. The only regret I have with the Del Tiempo is the case that that comes with it is bigger than the guitar. The 125 perfectly fits in the case that comes with it BUT NOT THE DEL TIEMPO! I don't consider it an upgrade from 130. Text me and ill show you a picture of the guitar inside the case.

      Hello JS V
Congratulations on your new Ramirez Guitar. Amalia Ramirez developed a unique new bracing pattern specifically for the 125th anniversary of the Ramirez family business. It is a unique system based on 6 parallel fans plus 5 smaller cross braces.
That system remained the same through the second version: the 130 Años and again for the 135 anniversary when the guitar model got a new name: the Del Tiempo. Your guitar is EXACTLY the same construction as the 125th but that said, no two tops will sound identical. Provided you have the same strings and action and both are either cedar or spruce top guitars, they should have a very similar voice but subtle differences should be expected.
Also note that a guitar really “opens up” over the first 200 hours of playing time…so the newer Del Tiempo should see slight increases in volume, bass response and upper register, string to string balance. In other words…it will get even better !!

Case: the VGV, Italian-made cases are cool looking cases. They have a unique look about them that sets them aside from North American and Chinese cases (which copy north American cases) We have always called them the Euro Case to differentiate them from standard cases. Yes, they are a touch oversized. Nobody from Spain has been able to advise why. Some variance is from the plush lining which seems to vary from batch to batch.
If you place a folded polish cloth at the end block, that will take up the slack in the case if it bothers you. There is no harm from the slightly sloppy fit and since the case looks so classy, we have stuck with it since about 1995.
If it really is not suitable, you can always trade it on one of the North American so called Canadian cases ( often called TKL cases)

      I hope this is useful

Regards, Grant MacNeill, Classical Guitar Specialist
