Looking at getting an 3rd gen ecodiesel soon myself. However do you know any way to somewhat bulletproof these trucks since taking off emissions is out of the question now?
When I was a little kid, our neighbor came home with a big surprise for the Mrs. He took her outside, and told her, "open your eyes". When she did, she saw a brand new Nash Metro. She burst into tears! We always got a big laugh out of that...
Scotty I’ve been your student for a few years cuz I’m a car lover but not a great mechanic like you are! I studied your SUV suggestions and purchased a 2022 Mazda CX 5 off a lease with 20,000 miles on it, and it’s a gem! I followed your instructions on SUVs and Mazda, Toyotas, which I LOVE, and Hondas and I’m truly grateful and happy about my purchase. You’re a common sense guy and a great teacher! God bless you!!
The Nash/Rambler 232 and 258 cui inline 6 cylinder engines were tough as nails. I know both were still being used in AMC vehicles in the late '70's/early '80's - including Jeeps. The 232's (with a one-barrel carb) got surprisingly decent gas mileage in highway driving. The problem with AMC vehicles lay mainly in the quality (or lack thereof) of the bodies matched to those engines. AMC Gremlins, Pacers, Hornets and early Jeep CJ's....AMC used those engines everywhere.
When I was a little kid in Los Angeles in the early 50's, my daycare provider's (babysitter's) husband had a Hudson Hornet. What a beautiful car! She liked to torture us be feeding us sauerkraut and liver, but it was worth it just to admire that beautiful car in the garage!
I bet your liver and gut thanked her for that food! Both are super healthy but I would want a hamburger any dayvover liver. I love sauerkraut with hotdogs or brakwurst - German sausage. 😋
My dad was a big Nash fan back in the day. He liked the gas mileage and the fact the front seats would fold down and he could sleep in the car on his fishing trips. I remember that they had a button under the clutch pedal to engage the starter. He got a used Rambler wagon in the early 60's that had a V8. About 250cid I think it was. It would do a burnout about 20 ft.
Now I'm used to checking out Jay Leno's garage with classics like this because you don't see them on the road much anymore this was a treat I've never seen a Hudson and Nash, never saw one only a car shows did I see them in a parking spot or close to somebody's driveway, I've never seen one of these cars that well maintained, I think there was also another model the Hudson turbo metropolitan absolutely flawless.
Had a 1954 Nash Metro as a first car, in Wahiawa Hawaii in 1965. Love the car, it was pink in color and the girls loved it. Very dependable car, would love to have another one!
Brilliant Scotty! Here across the pond, they were very popular - in a two tone white/turquoise. They were made by Austin. I always wanted one - but they were beyond my salary, at the time. Great little cars and You have the weather for one!!
What a great car! You'll have heaps of fun with that, Scotty! And look at how easy those old cars were to work on! Love those Texan pedestrian puncturers.
Looks just like my old Austin A35 under the hood. They speed tested them on the German autobahn believe it or not and they were very reliable as long as properly maintained. I also had a 64 Rambler American with a big grunty straight 6 that I rebuilt from a pile of parts and drove all over England and Sweden in the 80's. It had a galvanised under body which is why it survived the salt on the scandinavian roads in the winter. You dont need a lot of money to have fun with cool old cars and no bloody scan tool either...
It's like my 67 Opel Kadet, it was a 1.1 liter motor. It would get 36 mpg. Over 40 going down the mountain. Almost had to get out and help push it going back up the mountain pass. It just got hard to find parts for it. The rack and pinion steering finally gave out, and couldn't find a replacement.
We even had these cars in New Zealand, in right hand drive of course. A couple of classy young ladies a few houses up the street had one, yellow and white 2 tone. All English cars with this engine including MGs had a 4 speed trans, so if you could find one, that would be a good upgrade.
I am absolutely envious. When I first got my drivers license that’s the car I wanted above everything. It was really hard to find in my area. I bought a used Austin Healy Bug Sprite. There is a story I heard a long time ago about a Delaware state trooper in his personal Metropolitan stopped a speed and either the engine fell out or blew up or something but I have no idea how true that is. Enjoy.
I agree! I went to school for electronics. We studied electron flow. Guys taking electrician classes studied hole flow. That's why electricians say power goes to ground.
My parents bought a 1960 Nash Metropolitan which I drove in 1973-74 to high school. All stock. Great gas mileage. Always started right up. Fruited the interstate at 70-75 mph. Built like a tank! My little sister rolled it on a dirt road- barely put a dent in it.
Scotty, a GREAT segment. Best of all, you seem to be having a really good time. You deserve it. Refreshing to see someone on RUclips with some genuine emotion. Michael
used to own a 1979 Celica Supra hatchback 5 speed stick, its the car i most regret selling , i only paid $500 for it in 1999 (my Uncle owned a tow yard and gave me a sweetheart deal, that car looked and ran like it was new even though it was 20 years old at the time) it was reliable, drove like a dream and got great mileage, selling it was one of the worst mistakes i ever made
The metropolitan was made by morris garage...MG. we actually had two and a nash cross country too. All 1954. The cross country looked just like the metropolitan, but bigger. The three were mechanically horrible. Bad everything. I remember that the linkage on the shifter would alway get crossed and we had to carry a big screwdriver in the car. (the met) it happened at traffic lights when you shifted into first. You had to quickly jump out of the car, open the hood and uncross the linkage before the people behind you got mad. Constant problems with those cars, but they are cute.
I like how it sounds like a lawn mower😅, it sounds like the English will only looking for a car so they can drink their tea in style! I also think that the English built the mg? I believe so they have pretty cool looking cars.

Me, too, Scotty!! I love the Metropolitan-- so cute! 🥰
WHERE ARE THESE CAR COMPANY EXECUTIVES HEADS? 😂
👋👋👋🙂Cloudy afternoon in south georgia.
My grandfather had one. Never rode in it but would always go into it whenever he drove up -- always some candy in the dash pocket for us grand kids.
Finally a car with no error codes! 😎👍
The big fancy scan tool let us down.

Than fu-ny

@@gradyrogers6707
Don't buy a Hyundai, seriously.
Scotty hates them and KIA's too.
Wait for the Toyota Stout that's almost here.
I saw a Nash Metropolitan at Lake Havasu that was rodded up and had a V8 stuffed into it. The licence plates were “NASHTY”. Dream car.
Scotty sure was happyyy in this vid.

My brother and I had a 62 metropolitan in the late 70s. Yes it can do just about 70mph. We blew the rear doing burnouts in the back yard😂

High beams with your foot is crazy. Blew my mind when my grandmother first told me about it. 19 year old here 😂
My 1968 GTO's high beams were turned on the same way. It was pretty much standard for most cars back then.
My '89 Ford F-250 Diesel has a high beam foot switch.
