- RingTV's Steve Kim spoke to Gennady Golovkin (who responded in Russian to better articulate his opinions and feelings) on a number of subjects, including his controversial draw with Canelo Alvarez and the prospects of a 2018 rematch. Golovkin, who is No. 1 in THE RING's Pound for Pound Rankings, will be featured on the cover of the March 2018 edition of the magazine, on sale in December.

what do you mean with canelo a "better boxer"? you dont win fights by looking good in movements, you win fights by landing more punches or landing significant harder punches. not a single punch had any affect on ggg and canelo was the whole fight on his backfoot + ggg outlanded him nearly in every round. so whats your point? i dont get it.

Yes!!! Thank u! I've wanted to hear Gennady speak in detail for ages! He can't answer properly in English so I've said for ages"why's no one interviewing him in his native tongue?" He's often asked a question and doesn't answer he says something unrelated because he doesn't understand so nice one doing this.

Everyone argues why he didnt KO canelo, and the truth is he couldnt but he still won that fight. I thought he would be more excited to fight again after the canelo fight, but it looks like he is over it

Excellent interview! GGG only needs to stay in the game for big pay days, unification, or breaking BH's record for title defenses.....other than these 3 things he has nothing to prove. Hope he accomplishes these objectives and retires on top.

Gennady has no time for Golden Boys bullshit. If they wont make the rematch he should fight the Saunders/Lemieux Winner and unify the division or a mandatory like Charlo or Murata and then the WSS Tournament Winner at 168 end of 2018.

When ggg speaks english he sounds like the nice guy from your neighborhood, but when he speaks russian he sounds more serious and dangerous like „I must break you“ and I can understand both languages
GGG chased Canelo all 12 rounds missed alot of punches but still managed to land alot of punches, yes canelo landed some what you call power shots but once in a blue, even his corner told him stay in the center more be more offensive stay away from ropes even his team knew Canelo ran too much

Canelo won 7 - 5... yeah GGG was the aggressor but his punches didn’t do anything. GGG’s jabs were like little pats or hit nothing but air. Canelo truly boxed and fought a smart fight. GGG is bigger, very strong, and has more reach. Why stand and go toe to toe the whole fight. That would be foolish. I also thought that canelo landed the way harder and cleaner punches by far. Most of GGG’s punches were grazing and canelo was making him miss a lot. Canelo fought a good fight.The rematch is needed just to remove the doubts people have that canelo actually won, Which he actually did win, but GGG fans are stubborn AF and won't accept that canelo actually won. It's simple, Canelo was landing, GGG was missing, but people more so the GGG fans, just saw the pressure GGG was putting but without results. GGG fans were 100% sure GGG was going to KO canelo, too much power, he didn't do shit. It was GGG's job to finish the fight but he couldn't, because canelo is simply the more skilled boxer. In the rematch, Canelo will beat GGG even easier.

I'm glad that they let him answer in his native language so he can explain himself better. I hope they have the rematch next year and may the best man win for real this time. I don't care who wins out of the two, but if it's anything like the first fight, Golovkin will still be the champion. If Alvarez wins, that will be great for him as well.

Good interview, but I wanted to hear more about the fight specifically. How was Canelo speed and power and boxing skills? What were his own mistakes? etc.

Jacobs had to come in on the night as cruiser weight just to compete and canelo light heavy to compete. True middleweights have no chance and fighters need a handicap or advantage to even it out with you. Your advantage is that you are GGG a living legend

Talking in his fluent language you can see his expressions and body language when he speaks and answers specific questions about the fight with Alvarez. He is clearly unhappy with the decision made on Sept. 16th. It affected his confidence as a boxer. I am no mind reader, but I am sure he really was hoping for a stoppage instead of it going to the score cards. The stoppage would have taken him to a level he had never been to. Now boxing fans seen that he is mediocre in the ring when facing topnotch boxers.
Good interview, maybe he opened up to the Korean guy as his mother is Korean.
Golovkin kept with basics but he still needs to be cognizant of a defensive fighter who moves out and away from his forward directed attack. Now that kind of opponent doesn't get points for evasiveness, but it's important to note that GGG got winded. And then became vulnerable to Canelo's less frequent but powerful punches.
In the future, GGG should at some point let Canelo come to him, even if it means standing in the center of the ring with his hands down. Gets a breather while his opponent tries to figure out what to do.

iv watched the fight twice, first time i watched it i thought ggg was robbed, second time i actualy agreed with the draw, but saying that if any of them deserved the win then it would have been ggg, there were a lot of close rounds that were hard to score. i thought canelo done well against a bigger man and big puncher like ggg but his stamina wasnt good and he was blowing by the 3rd round, im a fan of both fighters

Anyone who knows how to score fight doesn't just give the match to someone for landing more jabs. There's a multitude of things you should look for in a fight from power punches, defense, ring generalship etc.
my point is GGG didn't do as great as most people are making it out to seem and he arguably lost the last 3 rounds thus, bringing the contest to a controversial draw. GGG simply didn't do enough to secure a conclusive victory as valiant as he fought.
