    I’ve had this model for about 2 years I’m very happy with it. I can say without a doubt BPS was one of the sharpest knives I’ve ever gotten from a factory. I really happy with it. The steel is a spring steel from what I read very comparable to 5160. That means extremely tough. I personally don’t care about edge retention. If a steel is tough the edge will hold up. I prefer toughness with ease of sharpening over high edge retention but brittle. You really can’t compare 1066 to 420. 420 is a stainless an I believe the 1066 is a higher hardness. If buck took 420 as high it would be brittle. I carried a buck most of my life. Even Buck can’t compare to a $38 knife. People put to much into steel selection. Most steels the biggest difference is carbon or stainless. Everything else is very minor
    You’ve made some nice videos. Very beautiful country reminds me of the high desert In Utah. Have a good one.

      Thanks for the comment, 420 And 1066 are both high carbon steel’s and they Rockwell about the same. That being said, I would take the BPS adventurer over my buck 9/10 times.

      @@HeyBuckoOutdoors420 is a high carbon STAINLESS steel that has chromium.. not even close to a simple carbon steel that will be much tougher due to having carbon carbides as opposed to chromium carbides..always irks me when a knife review person doesn’t know basic metallurgy

      @@shawnpepin7890 thanks for the correction, sorry I’m not an expert in metallurgy lol. I’ll keep that in mind for the next knife with 420HC I review.

    1066 is a good steel for making the knife economical, but I would have preferred if they used a more interesting steel 1080 is my preferred "cheap" steel because I think 0.80% carbon is the sweet spot for knives.

    Nice video. Look forward to buying a couple. The other benefit is that, at the price point, I would not hesitate to modify it. Best.

    3 times you’ve been disappointed by BPS the things man with thick skin on the hand don’t even notice. Handle screw, handle edge. For the price this quality 50 $. Without any disappointments buy a black from BPS Knives and make your own handle.

    the bps nighthawk adventure is the black version which is also stainless steel as well.

    Good honest review. Enjoyable while not letting the price blind you too obvious defects. A great knife all in all for the price (heck I’ve paid that for less sheath).

    1066HC and 420HC are NOT alike !!!!! 420 is stainless, 1066 is not. That's a significant difference

    • @HeyBuckoOutdoors
      @HeyBuckoOutdoors  Год назад

      Stainless or not, they have very similar characteristics. As well as a similar Rockwell score.

      Stainless vs NOT Stainless is not similar properties!!@@HeyBuckoOutdoors

      @@gregbarry5875 I’m just saying they Rockwell about the same, I understand 420HC is stainless. They are both decent steels that aren’t to rigid, I’m not going to argue bs semantics on this. Which ever one you choose, you’ll have a decent blade.

      what are you some sort of steelthologist ?

      @@1joshjosh1 Yes I do know. They are very different metals. Anyone who is into knives knows the difference between blade materials. By the way. the term would be metalurgist, and no I am not one.

    you meant to say 'tip of the blade to the pommel...' not "hilt."
