  • NDMI is used to determine vegetation water content. It is calculated as a ratio between the NIR and SWIR values.
Formula for NDMI, NDMI= (NIR - SWIR) / (NIR + SWIR)
    In Landsat 8, NDMI = (Band 5 - Band 6) / (Band 5 + Band 6)
    In Landsat 4-7, NDMI = (Band 4 - Band 5) / (Band 4 + Band 5)
    Steps to be Followed:
Step 1: Download Landsat Satellite Image, Here I’ll calculate NDMI using Landsat 8 Satellite Image. Download Satellite Image:

Step 2: Open ArcMap and Add Image (Band 5 and Band 6)
Step 3: Go to Arc Toolbox -=Spatial Analyst Tools --Map Algebra -- Raster Calculator
Step 4: Then Just do according to Formula (Band 5-Band 6) / (Band 5+ Band 6) (Example, Float (“Band 5-Band 6”) / Float (“Band 5 +Band 6”) and Rename, Then Specify the folder where you want to save and Click okay.
Step 5: NDMI is done. Now you can show the moisture content in color using Symbology option. Just follow me.
