Merci !
Hello hello my transatlantic friend !! Wow it’s been a while , 3 months I think. My internship finally ended after 4 months of hard work in the hotel restaurant. It was a nice experience but I’m also happy to leave . Turns out this island was not the best place to go out 😆. “L île de Ré “ ( as it’s called ) is a very cute and pretty island on the Atlantic coast of France. It’s renowned for its production of salt 🧂 ( so the swamps with storks and frogs are all over the place ) , also for its breeding of oysters 🦪 and of course those very cutes whites villages. It felt good to get away from the roaring traffic boom and every day here the sound of the waves coming and going, the frogs singing by night , a great amount of marvelous birds while riding my bicycle and many more nice things. But after 2 months being alone ( with only knowing my staff ) I was starting to feel quite annoyed by this atmosphere. Indeed, the nature is not the problem but its the location of the hotel . Never could I have fun , the nearest village was at 40 minutes on bicycle ! So despite the beauty of the island , sadly not a single time ( in 3 months) I managed to go out , have fun , meet new people. But hopefully in a experience, you always increase your knowledge and your skills. I’ve progressed in my work , become perhaps more mature because leaving for 3 months away was a first time for me and finally became amazed by the sea . I bought a small boat with a paddle and almost every day I went navigating , alone yet with something that feels so alive , sometimes angry, sometimes peaceful this extraordinary ocean. I started to reed books on all those pioneers of navigation that discovered new paths, new continents , new oceans . Columbus , Vasco de Gama , Amerigo Vespucci, Sir Francis Drake and many more . But among one mostly got my attention : Magellan. He was the very first man to proved to humanity that a path leading to the spice islands was possible by going west !! Of course I know you know all this amigo 😆 As for opera I didn’t have quite the occasion to discover a new one . I always listen to Placido Domingo with the same passion, his voice is so unique and yet perfect!! And I can’t believe he’s still singing all around the world practically every week lol ! Voilà what was going these last months . Ok mon ami you have a great evening over there in America 🇺🇸, see you soon. ~Sacha
@@Sacha_Kudli Que tal mon ami, good to hear from you, after a long stretch for the both of us. When you’re young, time drags, when you’re old, it flies. lol Hard work is good for people, as long as it’s not too hard. Now, it’s time for some new experience. Hmm, too bad the island you vacationed on was a bit of a dud. “L île de Ré “ ? The Island of the King, I’m gonna guess? See, the missus and I would love a get away to such an island as you describe it. We’ve got all the friends we need now, so making new acquaintances is ok, but not essential. When we were young like you, it was the opposite. Maybe you’re next travel agent will do a better job for you. Do they still exist? Maybe now everyone has to be their own travel agent online? Man, that would be hard now, when you have to do so much guessing about so many aspects of your trip. You bought a boat? Wow. Are you a good sailor? You must be, you made it back in one piece! lol Magellan is indeed a very interesting and consequential historic figure. I think the closest modern analog would be astronauts/cosmonauts. This listicle might be too tame for you in your studies of the explorer, but maybe not: (change the “xx” to “tt” in the head of the link and take out the spaces to repair for use) hxxps: // www . history . com / news / 10-surprising-facts-about-magellans-circumnavigation-of-the-globe Indeed, not only did going west work better, he (less his untimely death) proved the world was not flat. In fact, I’m listening to Domingo’s Grammy winning album, “100 años de Mariachi” as I write. This is a favorite of my missus, so, I play it often. 😉 I know he’s still singing and it’s amazing. He’s in Albania, I think it is, and it makes me smile. I truly hope he hears unending applause for the rest of his days. Well over in my corner of the world, we’ve been keeping the homestead humming like a well-oiled machine, largely because our state stopped doing lockdowns and mask mandates last month and everyone is back to mostly normal. I hear Austin and Dallas are still acting like babies about the covid, but nobody’s perfect. lol But even they are easing up. One of the cats (we suspect the gray tabby, who we call “Tabs”, brought us a present yesterday: a dead mouse, left on the back door mat. Intact, except for the punctures in the neck, so, we have a policy: we look upon the gift and pause for a minute. We neither cheer nor object, we just behold, in case Tabs is watching from over there. Then we pick up the offer, pretend to sniff with appreciation and then take it inside so Tabs can assume we’re dining on his generous gift. Anyway buddy, glad you got a break from the madness of the world for a bit. Glad all is good with you. Hasta la proxima joven, tu amigo transatlantico, ~A.
