Thanks Guitar Tube for putting this great video up!!! It is an important document of Guitar Duo playing!!!with the great Pat Metheny, a hero for us all!!! I appreciate it a lot!! Ulf Wakenius
Ulf, I know you are great, but you were especially inspired that day! Awesome playing and such a wonderful resourcefulness! Thanks so much! And please, if you can, tell a bit about your guitar tone that day. Regards.
Always liked this tune, but this arrangement is amazing! I love it when new life is breathed into the classics. Whose arrangement is this? Phenomenal playing from both of you.
fan-nomenal! seamless and melodic. vintage Pat and I guess Ulf or vice-versa. I am hearing this amazing guitarrist for the first time as well. Leave it to Pat to leave no collaborational -stone unturned. 32 years later, I still find reasons to love the music and the spirit of Pat Metheny. Superb. Virtuoso guittarra.
the old polish shower (deoderant instead of showering) or the old polish plane (circular saw instead of a planar). basically, you guys are broke as fuhq. hi :)
If one heard the music without watching the video and without knowing Wakenius is soloing he would guess without hesitation this is a Metheny track performed by Metheny. Ulf has emulated Metheny's playing and even one of Metheny's most typical guitar sounds. It still sound AMAZING Ulf is incredivily skilled and fluid and inspired in his playing. Above all in many ways it reflects Ulf's musical personality:indeed heavily influenced by Metheny especially as for his ballad-like repertoire, and...
The fact that Ulf sounds a little bit like Metheny himself, is not a co-incidence. They are about the same age and came from the same musical base. I started to listen to both Ulf & Pat in the 70's, and Ulf played in that way even back then. He made some really awesome records with the Swedish band "Hawk on Flight" that is very similar to what Pat Metheny did back then. I believe that if You are a true musician and share the same influences - its going to sound in a certain (and awesome) way.
Yeah, many asses do not know that Ulf Wakenius is one of most notable jazz guitarists from long years, played for Oscar Peterson trio, Roy Brown trio, formed own group with such musicians as Jack DeJohnette, Bill Evans, Bob Berg,Randy Brecker, participated in hundreds other projects with top jazz musicians
For me Pat's music is so close to the emotion. It soars, sustains, soothes, evokes some memory. Jazz became much, much more accessible to me after hearing him. Ulf just gets him completely. These guys smoke. Listen to these guys play "Falling Grace" by Steve Swallow. It will make every guitar have to stand up.
DUO MAGIQUE AVEC UN SUPER SON ACOUSTIQUE ET JAZZ ELECTRIQUE .... PAT METHENY JOUE UNE PARTIE ACOUSTIQUE IMPRESSIONNANTE AVEC UN SON SUPER ..QUI SWINGUE UN MAX .......
[continued]...and yet sooooo fresh and rich with ideas that one is tempted to claim he is becoming Pat's inheritor of the crown (ok that's a bit daring to say). In Vagabond however he also managed to distance himself from his previous, more Pat-infused work and add lots of new elements (mediterranean and arabic melodies and sounds and more) in his playing and still sounding soooo damn fresh and prolific!!! A f*** genius indeed, UIf!
I remember seeing/hearing a telecast of Oscar Peterson years ago and wondering who the amazing guitarist was. Took some time but turned out to be Ulf Wakenius. Amazing musician! Also P.M.'s acoustic playing here is a blast.
Great playing. Ulf lets his ideas flow and this works out very well. Pat is playing background rhythm. Ulfs style is similar to Pat's. . Which version of Angel eyes? Sinatra's or this a new one they came up with?
+Freddy Mclain No such thing as piracy of changes; they are free for anyone who wants to use them, and I don't know how long its been that way, but at least since the bebop period, about 70 years ago, when Charlie Parker and many others wrote many famous tunes that are still standards, over changes from a generation earlier.
@JeffJefferson95 Maybe you should listen more carefully. My myself have no problems whatsoever to hear the notes. It´s just a matter of taste. Check out some of Wakenius repertoire - personally I think he outperforms Metheny on all the solos.
You' re absolutely right...I was thinking the same thing...sounds like an amateur Pat Metheny imitator...Not on par with Metheny's solo playing...Metheny's solos are one long idea developped over the entire course of the solo...But Metheny is an alien, so...
who said pat isn´t great on rythm?? Hes, in my opinon far better than ulf wakenius, though wakenius is a great guitar player. but what i dislike is his his sound, its too smooth, you cant hear the single note lines perfectly, its sounds like a carpet being in front of the amp :-/
Ulf plays decent jazz 101 lines but the mono-dynamic of Pat's strumming is really irritating on this tune! "Angel Eye's" is beautiful Jazz Standard and should remain a Ballad.
It's like they are playing in different rooms. Metheny plays folk like strumming, for 7 minutes while Wakenius plays straight ahead bebop lines the whole tune, with good articulation, I give you that, but it really really gets boring. Of course they are both great players and both are very tehnical but this rendition seems to be put together quite tasteless. It's a shame really, that they couldnt come up with something better
@@alex_dobro_guitar As if being able to do it better yourself was a prerequisite for criticism. "Because they're such good guitarists, all music they make and every gig they play is perfect."
A friend just told me about Ulf Wakenius and I bumped into this video. No offense meant to lovers of this genre, but this is an excruciatingly painful bore, guitar gymnastics worse than classical music.
Worse than classical music eh?! I didn't know it could get worse than Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. They were awful. Now let's listen to some real GOOD music..Like Kenny G.
Thanks Guitar Tube for putting this great video up!!!

Thank you mr. God of guitar, for sharing your music to your minions
Ulf, I know you are great, but you were especially inspired that day! Awesome playing and such a wonderful resourcefulness! Thanks so much! And please, if you can, tell a bit about your guitar tone that day. Regards.
Thanks for that album with Sivuca!! It's awesome. Greetings from Brazil!!
Always liked this tune, but this arrangement is amazing! I love it when new life is breathed into the classics. Whose arrangement is this? Phenomenal playing from both of you.
...this tone is to die for...awesome musician!!!
A great duo performance. Ulf Wakenius is a major jazzguitarist, his flawless intonation is amazing. No matter whom he is playing, he is class.
Just imagine Pat M. playing rythm guitar just for you for over 7'!? :-) Heaven.
Qpidon, imagine the respect Pat has for Mr. Wakenius to play the role of rhythm guitarist
J'ai la chair de poule, larmes aux yeux...belissimo!

Thank you so much for introducing a new guitar talent to me. I'm referring of course about Ulf. I have been a fan of Pat'S since the 70's.
Beautiful video... two great Musician.
Serious Tone coming from that guitar , beautiful !
Two legends! 🧡
Ohhh, You don't even know how I love these two guys !!!
All the best from Poland everybody :) Mark

love your playing Ulf.
God I love Pat's steel string playing so much!
Pat, your right arm is now allowed to take the rest of the night off. Nice work!
Lol!
Great sound from that Lab Series amp!!!!

No, from the playing.

Veojam, discovered him playing with Soon Yan Nah. Amazing guitarist, with her reminds me a bit of Django
Awesome. love it!
Beautiful.
Super musical ce duo ! Et Metheny est un killer dans ce genre de "rythmique folk" en 12/8 !!! Il joue comme un batteur en fait !
Awesome Clip- I really enjoyed watching!
Best wishes, Max
a match made in heaven

Superb! TY for posting.
Fabulous..
Pat's solo is perfect. Best part of the music, in my opinion
Wakenius is a genius!! HA! has anyone said that yet? anyway he is really great.
thanks for posting!
two of the best...
Ulf you can be proud
to sit on that place near Pat.......

perfect!
Formidable!!!!
Best 240p video on youtube.
Ulf WAKENIUS ? : un. .très grand guitarist-jazz. Dommage qu'on ne lui fait pas trop de promotion médiatique. Très... Très Grand guitariste.
*Wow..!* ;) 🎵
Fabuleuse
Very Groovy, and yet Fucking Awesome!
love this, although Ulf does sound a bit derivative of Pat's playing which is somewhat entertaining seeing as they're playing together here
Wish I could find the Birds and the Bees video he did with Pat.
❤
No matter what you do - there will always be people disliking it.
I've seen Pat playing rhythm like this before with John Scofield, and I have a question. Why doesn't his arm fall off?
Beautiful from both of them.
Sounds like Mr. Wakenius has transcribed a lot of Pat Metheney solos...
Perhaps, but more Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinardt, Rune Gustavsson, ...
So great. Where can I find the rest of the show?
Pat has great rhythm. He must not want to throw down some lead lines. Neither would I !
@JeffJefferson95 I know what you mean.. he cut away the heights, and so the thickness of his sound is pretty "false".
ouaimpf.... 2 Pat Metheny pour le prix d'un....
Great playing. Ulf lets his ideas flow and this works out very well. Pat is playing background rhythm.
Ulfs style is similar to Pat's. . Which version of Angel eyes? Sinatra's or this a new one they came up with?
These are the changes pirated by Leon Russel for his 'Masquerade.' bridge and
all. The Matt Dennis tune was much hipper...IMHO.

Also listen to them playing Summertime.....same key; (look under Joe Pass/Pat Metheny)
Holy guacamole!
@JeffJefferson95 did you buy new speakers?
yeah, they all sound the same - jazz guitarists:) before you actually hear the details - and that's why we love jazz.
the master and his..........???
Anybody knows where could i get the sheets for this?
+Dustin Marin In the heaven
+Bruno Mele Thank you sir, Let the lord be praised, as i find my way into pats and ulfs realm of peace.
Late Answer but: From The New Real Book Vol. 1
Do you think Pat play in a diffrent tuning our normal?
Who composed this tune?
I ment Jim Hall/Pat Metheny.....
@JeffJefferson95 Maybe you should listen more carefully. My myself have no problems whatsoever to hear the notes. It´s just a matter of taste. Check out some of Wakenius repertoire - personally I think he outperforms Metheny on all the solos.
You're totally wrong...but you're allowed to...
@@normt6226 - go out and buy new ears 🙃🤣
is this song from matt dennis??
@ThePlaidViking - I would say that 3 idiots only is success these days. World is full of empty brains and deaf ears now.
Что за гитара у Вакениуса?
sounds a bit like 2 Methenys playing.
Le "ferraillage" de Metheny est assez "lourdingue" !
Sounds like pat metheny. Don't get it
No kidding.
Matt Dennis
como los ojos del demonio
One thing I don't like about ulf is he doesn't link his ideas as effortlessly as pat imo.
+Bask3tballTrickSh0ts
So, what does _"link his ideas"_ mean, in concrete terms, and where do you spot that "extra effort" in Ulf's playing?
Phases being ideas- and how he integrates one phase to the next
OK post us a video show us how it's done.
Nobody got flow like PM tho.
You' re absolutely right...I was thinking the same thing...sounds like an amateur Pat Metheny imitator...Not on par with Metheny's solo playing...Metheny's solos are one long idea developped over the entire course of the solo...But Metheny is an alien, so...

"Something better." As if you'll ever be able to play anything like these guys, lol. If you have something better, show it instead of being a bitch.
@@alex_dobro_guitar As if being able to do it better yourself was a prerequisite for criticism. "Because they're such good guitarists, all music they make and every gig they play is perfect."

Definitely not jazz 101 lines man.
