Best reviews on youtube!! Extremely professional!!
Aww thanks!
Another good & honest review😊. Thank you sir Barry! ✌🏻Happy Holidays🤗🤗🤗
Thank you!
thank you for your Reviews, keep up the very good work!
My pleasure
Great review, Barry! For my money, you are the best ukulele reviewer on the Internet, my friend! It is a lot of money, and so little sustain. I think one could do better for that money, as you pointed out.
ChuckVT thanks Chuck!
Great review. Very professional.
Thanks Brian
I am interested in the Lanikai brand and I wish you had reviewed one without the electronics as I don't want them. I know it would have been lighter, but do yo think the sustain would improve without the electronics? Or with no cutaway?
I don’t choose what they send me for review. Keeps the site from being swayed to just what I like. I wouldn’t go for this pickup either. As for an improvement without it. Perhaps, and probably, but I’m guessing. Adding more ‘stuff’ to the body like this is never good for tone or sustain. That said, the top isn’t the most resonant regardless. Honest answer is I think you can do better with other brands.
@@GotAUkulele Thanks for the reply. I was liking the wider nut. Not many $300 dollar range ukes have the 38mm nut. I guess I'll keep looking.
@@briancole7935 Try the Islander range?
@@GotAUkulele I've looked at them too. I'll take a closer look again. Thanks!
Barry Mate, I just now ordered a Got a Ukulele T-shirt! as for the Lanikai ... too expensive I think ... .😎
Thanks Slim!
Hey! I really like this uke! I think at 4:29 you mentioned the kala tenor ka-sa-te-c. Please correct me if that wasn't the one you meant. I think those two are comparable because they both are similar prices and both have pickups. Is the kala one less heavy and uncomfortable than this one? Since they are similar prices, do you prefer that one over the one you reviewed this video? I looked if you had done a video or blog review of the kala but I couldn't seem to find one. Thanks for all you help!
I was referring to the ASAC-T
Thanks for the review! Hope you will check out some other new models too.
Baz, do you think the lack of sustain is due to the thickness of the top?
Thanks for the review!
Nickie McNichols partly Nickie. But the masses of wiring inside doesn’t help. Could also be bracing. Back bracing looks fine but I can’t see what’s going on under the top
Hello Barry! Great review!! I have a cascha tenor ukulele nice but I don’t like the sound so much.... Maybe because I compare it to the sound of an almeria concert one. would you make a review of it? I feel something is wrong
If I can get hold of one - never seen one in the UK though
One would think a thick top would add sustain . . . maybe they used a heftier top to cut down on feedback. I think most buyers of this model would be intending play plugged in.
Nah - very much the opposite. You only get sustain if you have resonance in the first place. This ain’t a solid uke. They make them over thick to ensure they don’t get splits and returns.
Well, solid body electric guitars have no acoustic noise but bags of sustain. Lots of matter to extend the vibes. Agree they overbuild for warranty reasons
Edward Petersen they do - but that’s my point - that’s not what this is.
The top looks really nice minus the thickness of it.
Yeah- certainly a pretty uke
It’s not that thick. It has a one-piece spruce brace around the entire sound hole which makes it look thick.
good review what about kala ka smht?
Played one but only briefly so not reviewed one in detail (yet)- very decent uke though and a reliable brand
Thanks boss
My pleasure!
Can you review the Caramel Baritone Ukulele please?
ShortStuffSomething very unlikely I’m afraid. Due to the huge flood of instruments on Amazon with some dubious marketing practices, I changed my policy to no longer review instruments unless they are also in retail stores. If caramel get their ukes into other shops I will consider them, but not until that happens. For what it’s worth, I reviewed another scale from them before i tightened my policy / it was terrible!
What is the name of the song of the minute 6:26
See link below the video!
So they do have a all solid gloss model with flamed maple edge binding that I bought for $350, so guess I got a steal. Link: lanikaiukuleles.com/product/solid-acacia-tenor-ukulele/
So really I wanted to know is that it being my first tenor I thought the action seemed high. Compared to my cheap Amahi soprano. Did you think the action was high or is it normal height for a tenor.
Makes the price on this one all the more odd! Action on this one is perfect - but that has not link to yours - they vary out of the factory not by model
@@GotAUkulele pretty sure the owner at the store cut me a deal. Ok I didn't realize that. It's not terrible but is noticeable difference. How much of a pain is it to adjust? Is it even worth it?
Absolutely worth it and essential in some cases to make a uke play well. It’s a case of removing the saddle and bit by bit sanding the base down. You measure saddle action by measuring height of string above 12th fret. I like it about 2.5mm above
@@GotAUkulele that should pretty easy. Thanks for advice. Keep doing what you do, always enjoy your Sunday reviews!!!
Could you recommend at Tenor with 38mm nut (1.5"), around £200GBP, give or take, available in the UK? I find so many manufacturers websites or resellers don't mention the nut width, or get it positively wrong. Thanks
Dino Fancellu Islander - I think?
Thanks for the advice, just got an Islander MST-4 from Southern
Good ukes those!
Hello. Do ukuleles with massive top cover have a shorter resonance time than laminated ones? I'm thinking of buying a top solid electro tenor or concert ukulele. I'm a music teacher. What would you recommend?
Not sure what you mean by ‘massive’? Generally solid wood will be more resonant than laminate but there are a lot of variables such as grades of laminate and the internal build. I’ve played good laminates with far more life in them than poorly made solid wood instruments. But a well made solid wood will easily beat most laminates
@@GotAUkulele Which brands and models do you recommend for wooden and electric ukuleles? There is a shipping problem due to Covid. There is no ukulele of any brand. I have seen Lanikai Gresh, Lag, Ashton ukuleles in the shops.
@@muzikdersi6663 I don't give individual recommendations beyond what my reviews say - far too many subjective things to make that impossible. Best to look a the highest scores on my full list here - oh, and avoid Ashton!! Terrible instruments www.gotaukulele.com/p/ukulele-reviews.html
@@GotAUkulele ok.thanks
What ukulele sustain well in your opinion?
Anything with a light build, thin woods
Why a so nice ukulele in solid acacia with cutaway? Sincerely I don't like all this cutaway mania. I think the cutaway in a so small instrument is not a good idea. Please Lanikai... NO PICKUP AND NO CUTAWAY..
Fair enough!
