Who cares about original. Why everything have to be original this original that. Omg that's not original. So what. What I should give those snotty arrogant tools at harley davidson 1200 dollars just because ot says harley? Or so I can say, well, " they're original "
Good review. I've had TCMT bags on my RK Classic for two years now. I changed to the screw in mount bolts to increase security and they work better than the quarter turn type. I'm very pleased with the hard bag look over the leather bags. The fact they are lockable is a huge plus. When I first took delivery there was a problem with one of the locks. TCMT was very responsive and immediately sent me two locks for free. Very impressive customer care.
Great video and review! Just ordered mine for my 2009 Road king classic. Figured why not since I don't have whitewall tires anymore. I also ordered the organizers for the inside of the bags and the bag twist lock instead of using the stupid pin twist piece HD includes with them. THANKS!
My 1999 is a standard, so it came with hard bags, but that's also the bags I prefer...I'm a leather worker, so I do like the soft bag look, but for protection & security, I like my hard bags...
They also sell the later one-touch style bags which are a vast improvement over the earlier style latch hardware. I put them on my '04 Road King Custom and only had to loosen and adjust the mounting brackets slightly.
Got a set earlier this week, easy to fit on the bike, nice finish. Latches are a little tight but will loosen up as I use I bet. What a deal though, I paid as much for a busted lid on my old Road Glide bag as I did for this whole set.
I have had these on my Softail Deluxe for a few years now. Had them painted and pin striped to much and look great! The old style latch is a pain but works. Only bad thing is I had to replace the locks a couple times already.
It will be interesting to see how these things too long term, I don’t actually have them on the bike right now but I’m thinking about running with them for a while
That is same brand I got, but I got the Rushmore style and modified my brackets for them to work. Yes the liner is pain with some of the holes not lining up. I converted to the screw type fasteners like you have on your RG, I even done that if I was keeping my leather bags, just seems so much more secure and really did not cost much on Amazon.
I looked at a set before to put on my Softail Custom, but at that time there was alot of modifications that needed to be done to make them fit. it is nice to see an honest review on them
@@BoDean52 Brother just text me and he happened to order some of these before I could even mention them. Fantastic price point for folks that want to add a hard bag.
Those hard bags look good (my humble opinion). Maybe reflectors or lights on the back might help. Like a famous RUclipsr said "ride your own ride". That is what I am now doing.
Good Review! I really like the bag liners, and ability to lock them up. Would be nice to have a set to switch out when traveling vs just cruising around town. Wondering about painting a set to match my bike?
I have a TCMT CVO style rear fender on my 14 Limited. Not at all upset with the quality and at a fraction of the cost when compared to Harley. I do agree with you that the stock bags are the way to go on Duke.
I could stand riding a classic , but the hard bags are the main reason I like the standard also the turbine wheels and the tank decal . Not a bad price for the bags ,either .
Cut the holes in the liner out to about 1.25" in diameter so the completely clear the fasteners. Then velcro the liners in place and you are good to go. I think those bags look killer on the King.
@@BoDean52 That is how the Harley liners come. The hole is large enough so the whole fastener fits through the hole and you are not tightening them down against the liner.
Just wish some company that makes ABS plastic bags would make pre 93 bags and lids. The newer left bag fits fine, but the right bag has a dent for the where the battery goes. I have some Amazon stretched HD hard bags on my Vstar. They look great, and I was wanting to swap them onto my 87 electraglide but i'll have to relocate the battery first.
Wow, nice product to have sent to you! The bags look great on the King, and having a lock makes them more useful. I would have liked to see you try to fit the liner. Could probably have opened up the hole as needed.
I think that liner was cut for the newer screw in style mount bolts. I believe updating yours to the newer style isn't too tough and they hold on better than that style. The other option is to open the hole of the liner to a size that slips over your mount screws. Not a bad looking kit, please do a long term review. I am especially interested in how well they hold up with some miles.
Those look like the exact bags I have. Don't know what brand mine are but they have the same liner also. They work as intended. Personally. I like them better than the originals because they match the paint better IMO. Mine are locked on through the liner tho...bit of a pain in the but but once they are on, they are on solid. On a side note, you sound way different without your helmet on lol.
I do like the look of the leather bags as for classic look...but the extra maintenance of leather to keep it looking good can be a pain!...that being said...the new hard bags did not take away from the classic look in my opinion!...having good solid locking bags is a bonus as well!😉👍...keep us posted on a long term review!!...thanks for sharing...stay safe...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Looks fine on your Classic. Don’t know why you need saddlebag liners. I’ve never had them and not sure why you’d want them outside of making the inside of the bag look nice. Since you don’t tour on your Classic I’d keep the stock leather bags. If you did tour on it then the option to lock up your stuff would make the hard bags a better choice. I’ve always had the Road King standard FLHR so I’ve always had locking hard bags.
You are right, if I toured with this bike it would be a no brainer. As far as the liners, I put them in every bag so I don’t have to hear crap moving around in there. Probably going to keep originals on but they do look good
Alot of guys change out their TC88 RoadKing Classics to the hardbags...But i think the the hardleather bags look better...But thats just me...Also i think Indian made a mistake getting rid of their Chief Vintage line with the Hard leather bags...I like the leather saddlebag look
Bob, those bag retention clips are horrible. They have a tendency to come undone while riding. I learned by several near misses of having my bags splashed all over the road. I replaced them on my ‘15 Road Glide. There are multiple suppliers that sell replacement clips that are much better for about $20.00.
