Never got to see the Hunters at Scampton, sad to see them go, but, even sadder to know what is to become of RAF Scampton. History and our heritage being thrown away, makes my blood boil
Totally Agree mate. They don`t give a F***. All that matters to them is what the land is worth $$$. Brave men took off from there, Never to see Home again. Disgusting. You can`t put a price on our History and Heritage.
had 2 tours at Scampton , 27,83 and 617 sqns Vulcans in late 60's, no.3 FTS in 80's. Hope the Guy Gibson Dambusters museum can be saved within the Red Arrows hangar. Sad to see history flattened for development. only the memories and ghosts will remain of such a bustling RAF base.
I was there from 1967 to 1969 in MEAS and again from 1971 until 1973 on 230OCU as a Cpl Engine Specialist (AFittP) on the Avro Vulcan. Also worked on Hawker Hunters, FGA9 and T7 on 20 Squadron at RAF Tengah in Singapore from 1969 to 1970.
My father got to fly in Hunters during the early 60's with 208 Sqn- I feel very proud of him that he did. A timelessly beautiful design, as many on here have said, wish i could have had one in my log book.
Like E-Type Jaguars some designs never look less than beautiful no matter how old they are. Visited Scampton in the mid-60s while on an Easter ATC camp at another RAF station. We were told strictly no photography while on the base and were then lined up in front of a V-Bomber (Vulcan? it was a long time ago) to have our photos taken with some of the 617 crews!
I was on CCF Air cadet camp in 1982 at Brawdy and spent a couple of hours of my life in the hangar polishing the wings of a Hunter. A couple of nights later we were down the local bowling alley (Ahem...) and got told that the Argentinians had invaded the Falkland Island. Naturally, us 15-year-old cadets assumed these islands were somewhere off Scotland and rushed back to base asap!
We had two Hawker Hunters at RAF Laarbruch in the 70’s used for training pilots off the Buccaneer Squadrons when they first arrived for a tour of duty something to do with the Buccaneers not having capacity for 2 pilots was always a pleasure to watch them flying around our base great looking aeroplane ✈️
Spent 3 years at Chivenor and Brawdy working on Hunter F6, F6a, F9 and T7's. Truly lovely aeroplanes to watch and work on as an armourer. A real classic.
Sadly, since the Shoreham disaster, displaying swept wing jets has become a logistical nightmare. I hope as much as you do to see them display, but frankly it's highly unlikely.
The Hunter is a real beauty.Sad about Scampton going.Flew from there in a Hastings to Denmark (Karup) in 1977. Great days.l think Scampton will end up as a large anonymous housing estate.....
No they are privately owned and are just moving bases as Scampton is closing. They do airbourne threat simulations and similar kind of work for the UK military.
They'll build over it, no doubt, just as they've been given a free hand via relaxed regulations to build anything and anywhere they like, regardless of local objections. You probably unwittingly gave the green light to all this at the ballot box.
"DON'T BLAME ME : YOU VOTED CONSERVATIVE" (from a 1970 car-window sticker at the time of a Conservative election victory that saw Anthony Barber installed as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Barber went on to cut 'red tape' and to cut taxes in a disastrous 1972 budget similar to the current one).
Not just Scampton ! The list of decommissioned RAF and RNAS airfields post 1945 is truly shocking. We are going to end up with an airforce smaller than Spain.
@@alexandergemmell664 I can see the need and even sense in shutting down SOME bases and establishments but SCAMPTON.. no.. I suppose they all have a claim to fame .
Bad Mad to watch this footage great RAF Scampton BIG LOSS they that do this have not a clue what this base amazingly done saved this country from defeat and future security

How much would you bed prepared to contribute to keep them?
Sad time!!

What absolutely beautiful aircraft. Just goes to prove that if it looks right it is right. Seen loads in my time. Stunning.

Many years ago there were Hunters flying out of Yeovilton near where I live. Great plane great sound.
I was based there in 1969 in Air Traffic Control, with 27,83 and 617 Squadrons operating the Vulcan. Fantastic memories.

Beautiful classic machines, thanks.
What a marvellous looking aeroplane: never tire of them!

I flew a Hunter T7 in 1963 at Farnborough. A great aircraft.
Thanks for the video. I remember the Hunter with fond memories. FGA 9's of 43 Squadron at RAF Nicosia in the mid 60's.
The Hunters what I filmed went to RAF Leeming to there knew home.
Love the whole generation of wing root intake jets, they look so sleek

Remember them in Chivenor in the early seventies. Wonderful memories of a fantastic aircraft.
Along with the Spitfire and Dakota, the best-looking aircraft ever designed.
Still the most beautiful aircraft that ever flew!
Thanks for the video of these classic aircraft.
Wonderful noise wonderful jet love it!
Superbly beautiful footage on a pair of Hawker Hunters and definitely a sight to not forget 😊🤩
Would love to see these on the airshow circuit
That would be amazing, hopefully they can make 1 next year
Sadly, since the Shoreham disaster, displaying swept wing jets has become a logistical nightmare. I hope as much as you do to see them display, but frankly it's highly unlikely.
Classy classics putting on a classy show. Epic.
What a beautiful aircraft
Beautiful planes👍✈️
My all time fav jet plane
Great video. The Hunter a beautiful plane attack. Blue Hunter tail Embraer logo.
Spent many a day fitting starter cartridges to T7s on 237 OCU Honington and Lossiemouth in the mid 80s , Great to work on
Hunters always looked the part.
Let's hope they continue to fly for many more years
Worked on both 8 and 208 squadrons in Muharraq Bahrain 1968 to 1969
Great video 👍
What a magnificent sight!

I hope they go to collectors, or to aircraft museums, as maintained flying examples of this great aeroplane.
The aircraft are still going to be flying but Scampton is closing so they've moved to Leeming
@@ChickenNugget-dk9hp Thank you. That is great news.
Are these old aircraft just going out of service?
No they are privately owned and are just moving bases as Scampton is closing. They do airbourne threat simulations and similar kind of work for the UK military.
The single seater is an ex Swiss airforce Hunter 🙂
It's a pity that the pilots didn't head south and fly up the Thames through Tower Bridge and around Parliament, as a protest at Scampton closing!
Bloody beauty! 👍
How come these weren't involved in the RAF100 flypast in 2018?
The Hunters are owed by?
So The Hunters will be still flying but not from Scampton?
Yes, they’re now at RAF Leeming.
"their new"
Where’d they go?
what happened to the Mig that was there too
The two seater seemed to have a lateral oscillation when it commenced it's take off.
Remember Hunters at RAF Brawdy in the 1960s-1980s
Is it same company that produced the Hurricane?
Yes Hawker.
They being grounded?
Beautifull
Another very Sad event in RAF Station closures
Where are they going to be based now Scampton is closing?
RAF Leeming, North Yorkshire.
Those dambusters will be turning in their graves
Any idea what has happened to the Buccaneer they owned ?
There was a Mig in their hangar as well
Their website says the Buccaneer and the SU-22 are in short readiness storage and can be quickly reactivated if required.
@@Pesmog yes but I wonder when and how they are going to move them, assuming they are still in storage at RAF Scampton

Nice vid BTW.
Sabca in Belgium assembled more than 200 of the type in the 50's. If anyone knows where I could find a Belgian AF, please let me know !
In the Brussels military museum 👍

Has the second HH been on steroids or something ?
It is a Hunter T.7. A T.72 variant operated by Chile. It is just the color scheme giving it that appearance.
Distinctly different in appearance. Must be different versions of the same.

'there knew home '?? WTF
Hunters ? In 2022 … really. I thought these had been retired decades ago .
Finally retired 2014; now they are museum pieces.
@@andyowens5494 Fondly remember them at RAF Leuchars, possibly 111 Squadron ?
