This game is beautiful. Like the story mode remembering that first car I’ve raced in, the jaguar. Made me so happy and god as a kid these graphics felt so real. Remembering as a kid made me think this car game was just the most realistic thing ever.
Man this is one hell of an underated game. I had tons of fun playing this back then, the graphics and the physics blew my mind. Of course it was not on par with Gran Turismo 3 at the time, but it had great potential. Oh yeah, I loved the cut scenes in the game as well.
My childhood, how many memories this review brings to mind when I was little ... How beautiful life was at the time ... friends, first crushes, and playing toca race driver 2
this was my childhood game, i still have the original dvd for PC. I remember how mind blown i was when i crashed my very first car and got the cutscene where it showed that (despite in reality they show the same cutscene regardless :D). I used to play a lot but i never managed to complete the career mode, i believe i reached ~34% of completion. Im planning to give a proper replay as currently playing toca race driver 1 on my pc, ofc, with maxed out graphics and at 4k resolution. Im playing with controller and i find it quite fun, you cannot slam on brakes and have to find sweetspot, not to lock the brakes, however the event variation is a bit limited.
This game takes me back... so much in fact that when i was bingewatching your videos and i saw an advernt for toca 3... i just had to see if you had reviewed this one as well! Takes me back to me being a tiny kid and having sleep overs with my best friend and at the time we would play this game like heavily! and at the same time (If i am not misstaken by release dates) also Lord of the rings that RTS game... :) So much nostalgia watching this video.. thanks for reminding me about this game, had totally forgotten about it!
I know it's a bit silly to comment on this on an older video, but this made me chuckle: "nobody would have the balls to race Jaguar E-types and Aston Martin DB5s against eachother". Go and check the Goodwood Revival races and you'll never say that again🤭 That event is awesome. Anyone into cars, especially classic racing machinery, should check it out.
lol I'm with you. Even outside of Goodwood, there used to be a number of races throughout the year supporting the Touring Cars/GTs across the various UK circuits - watching one of those old beauties slowly sliding across the grass into a wall, as half the crowd gasps and winces in pain lol good times..
The nosalgia from this game is so real. The story was captivating enough for me. Rick's antics in the cutscenes made the grind of some of the championships worth it
This game was so hard when it came out.. Still remember that day when i lost the same fucking race 8 times in a row, closed my PS2 and throw the CD out of the window :D
The PSP version is always in widescreen and improves on the original in many ways 2:24 hahaha TOCA Race Driver 3 was actually the last game in the series before Grid and Dirt split
I have my ps2 with component cables and I always play in widescreen also..forced if it does not support it. Also wipeout 3 for ps1 supports widescreen it has an option in the menus, and about Ur ps1 review, back in the day I used it to play music off it.
If they ever remake these games, I hope they add some Ravenwest references. GRID Autosport all but confirms that the protagonists of the first 2 games are Nathan McKane with a retconned name and Rick Scott respectively, and Ravenwest is probably _the_ one big thing they could include when marketing another GRID/TOCA game of any kind.
I wonder why they didn't have the BTCC series despite they still carry the TOCA name. It feels kinda off. IIRC, the last game to carry the BTCC license was the first Race Driver. Wonder why there's no new games that have BTCC license where they could have WTCC/R cars in Raceroom... maybe they'd do it someday?
Close, but I believe that was Toca Race Driver 3, as this one is on PSP with the same name. Funnily enough a variation of Toca 3 was also on the Nintendo DS, with a lot less cars, but a Track Editor as the main selling point (think its called Race, Create, Drive).
I am playing this right now, together with the first game. And Damn. i don´t know how i beat both games back in the day. I know i beat them because the save files are still on my og xbox. But in comparsion to modern racing games, they are really hard.
Can you review Jarret and Labonte Stock racing on PS1?! Please the simulation damage is breathe taking even by today’s standards. Solid solid racing game
It was mostly ok, although the story is very cringe (there's even a character supposedly from Brazil, a portuguese-speaking country, that speaks with Spanish accent and slang)

Those cutscenes REALLY take me back

I had already played GT3 and NFS: Underground when I got this as a kid but to see a 'proper' story mode with cut scenes blew my mind

Having E-Types and DB5 racing each other is far from fictional. Check some of the Goodwood Revival videos.
Does anyone realize that the caravan car is exactly the same as in Colin Mcrae Dirt 2? 3:11
Yes we did.....way long time ago. They've brought back that caravan in DiRT 2
@@hashrulsubzero Nice xD I loved Dirt 2 so much...I still love it...and its music!:3 xD
I started playing this game in 2012 and only managed to finish it in 2019
That's fun, I didn't know that TOCA Race Driver had different names. Of course it was "DTM Race Driver" in Germany 😁

I really wish these games could be available on digital stores again

i just love how your videos are always of great quality, you really deserve more subscribers
I actually completed this game on the original Xbox. 100% on Career mode and Arcade mode.
The nosalgia from this game is so real. The story was captivating enough for me. Rick's antics in the cutscenes made the grind of some of the championships worth it
The game automatically switches between 4:3 and 16:9 based on the aspect ratio you set on the PS2's main menu.
How can you change it in the menu?
@@Vixen1525 Put the disc out , Start the ps2 and go to the System settings and Chance from 4:3 to 16:9 Mode
Always loved this game, it was my main racer since there was not many sims on consoles back then...otherwise i was racing on my PC
This game was so hard when it came out.. Still remember that day when i lost the same fucking race 8 times in a row, closed my PS2 and throw the CD out of the window :D
Was looking at Grid Legends thinking "man this reminds me of TOCA 2". Crazy to see it's the same devs, never knew.
The road width are the same, its just the camera FOV is narrower (to save performance I assume).
Can you do a review of enthusia?
The PSP version is always in widescreen and improves on the original in many ways
2:24 hahaha TOCA Race Driver 3 was actually the last game in the series before Grid and Dirt split
It's only just now that I noticed that Race Driver 2006 on the PSP is basically this exact game.
This was a game that I played so much as a kid
I have my ps2 with component cables and I always play in widescreen also..forced if it does not support it. Also wipeout 3 for ps1 supports widescreen it has an option in the menus, and about Ur ps1 review, back in the day I used it to play music off it.

Ryan McKane is Nathan's uncle

Fun fact: This game was ported to the PSP under the title "Race Driver 2006".

i has this games, oh boy it's hard
I love this game so much. I completed the game
Great video and review! 💯
I love this game. I played it on the xbox and i beat it
great content as always !

I got all 3 of those games,Toca released in Europe under DTM Race Driver
Which is better this or toca3?
Is that trailer reused for DiRT2 menu ?
You should play Toca Race Driver 3! I finished it twice on ps2, it's great
What the differences?
Colorshed, you know the one photo in the thumbnail with the Ford GTs is the same photo used in the GT4 Ford Dealership? lol
Both developers Codemasters and Polyphony must have got permission from Ford to use that image, good find though haha
Good retro reviews but calling it T.O.C.A makes me wince
Wheel + chase cam, like pineapple on pizza
Nice job!
Keep it up m8!!!
hey can you do a ps2 review?
I second this.
And that he did
I played the living hell out of this game as a kid. I heard there was a pc version but i can't find it anywhere.
I have it
Why would you review ps2 version instead pc, that without platform limitation?
I don't like how some championships have the same cars as the different championship
Loved this game!
DTM championship was my worst nightmare
Is that the motorhome from Dirt2? :O
i loved this game. but that ice track was so impossible....................
You're telling me there's a game that bridges the gap between grid and dirt 2????
Can I know the game size
Online was amazing
I really love DTM Race Driver 2 (german name) but some classes like Rallye are such waste of space..
I love this game
This is the dirt 2 caravan isnt it
Sneeky Codemasters
Ah I see this game has the same RV interior as Dirt 2
something about the frame rate makes this game feel strange
I finished every championship with 110% difficulty... if u can still play online write down here
you playing on the PS2????? you should have played on the PC
looks better
It was mostly ok, although the story is very cringe (there's even a character supposedly from Brazil, a portuguese-speaking country, that speaks with Spanish accent and slang)
Review the original
On RUclips it looks so baaad... I have it if anyone wants to play online it would be great
que feo son los pianos TOCA 2
