      But Flamu, I heard that Vermont, even reversing, is unusually agile and nimble for a high-tier BB (within its somewhat limited speed range), so surely this "reversing Vermont" observation is unfavourably biased...?

      Yamagiri only needs a few seconds to swap to 20km, so why would he not use them? And sure they are spotted a long way out, but of the 4 salvos you dodged, the first two were spotted by a teammate well before they got into your detection bubble, and you started turning to avoid both of the other sets before you ever spotted them due to figuring out where the DD was right before the torps came. Only the last salvo was at a range close enough that he could have even threatened you. And the first 2 sets he was reasonably staying a bit back from the various cruisers and providing spotting. Really, it seems like he played things fairly well - maybe he could have been a bit more aggressive, but he was NOT going to win pushing into two gunboat DDs and a CL. Spotting and tossing torps to help keep people back is a pretty valuable service to his team. Likewise - your CV did good work supporting the weak flank.

    Yamagiri always has the option to use 20km torpedoes.
    The choice of loadout you have is between type 93 mod 3 or F3s, the 12km or 8km ones.
    Some situations where I use them:
    -Immobile CV or potato Satsuma sailing in a straight line in the distance (you know they won't dodge them)
    -Just cleaned a side of the map, a bunch of BBs are sailing together far away (you have time to launch them and reload by the time you get in the 12km range)
    -You're getting zoned out by submarines, planes and radars, and can't use your 12km torpedoes
    In general, situations where you know that you won't have a use for your good torpedoes for a good while, or if you're 100% sure they will land.
    You'd be surprised how many you can land with enough skill. Of course, they're very situational.
    On Shimakaze, never use them, obviously.

    @forge16hanadamaintenancedr43 11 месяцев назад +17

    having the choice is better than not. Once torped out a mino from 15km away. with 20km torps, you need to offset 3 torp sets just slightly away from each other, and always launch them together. This way you have a torpedo wall that's effectively undodgeable all the way out to ~16km. But it makes you super predictable and even more dependent on the enemy being animals.

At the beginning of the match I torped the mouth of a channel between two islands through which a Freddy (or possibly a GK) and a Mino proceeded to sail through. They went from full hp to zero in seconds. 150k damage from one torp salvo lmao.

    Yamagiri has the option to run either 8 or 12km torps AND 20km torps. At any point it can launch 20km torps (it needs a few secs to switch to them though) and the reload is tied to its main torp armament. I personally run the 8km torps as I find them useful to kill DDs and annihilate unsuspecting BBs. They also have the best reload speed which allows me to launch 20km area denial torps and reload quickly enough afterwards. I use 20km ones rarely and mainly to prevent enemy pushes or just annoy radar cruisers and make them waste their radars. Occasionally there are players with room temp IQ who run into the 20km torps as well but I'd never count on it.
    Unfortunately, whenever I pick Yamagiri there is always a CV with a personal vendetta against me on the other side. On the other hand my Dalarna is full AAA build just to deal with CVs... and it almost never ends up in matches with them. Sad world... of sad warships...

    • @Crosshair84
      @Crosshair84 11 месяцев назад

      Hmmmm. That's a good strategy. Run the 8k torps for the fast reload and just launch the 20k if the 8k torps won't reach. I'll have to try it.

    • @almitov
      @almitov 11 месяцев назад

      @@Crosshair84 It is good as long as you don't hold any expectations for the 20km ones. If you manage to flank the enemies you could launch 20s at them from 90 degree position compared to your BBs. Then the enemy ships will have to either dodge the obvious torps and be broadside to your team or feast on the metal fishes while bow-on to your mates. Other than that don't expect many hits - the 8km torps are the main ones for such a build.
      Also don't be afraid to use your guns - 1 regular salvo, 1 triple barrage, smoke and then leave the smoke for another barrage - that is usually enough to kill a T10/T11 DD. If it survives you can still pull back into your smoke. Yamagiri is as accurate as Shima but even more dangerous since the triple barrage can easily drop 10K off from an enemy DD almost in an instance. Then you can still smoke up and reload in peace if need be.

      @@almitov yamagiri is one of the best superships imo. It's got all the tools you could ever need, is good at those tools, and requires skill to play well. All while not bringing dented uncounterable gameplay to the table.

    • @almitov
      @almitov 11 месяцев назад

      @@forge16hanadamaintenancedr43 I agree it is one of the best superships though I think it can be a bit too strong at times. The burst fire means it is quite dangerous for other DDs not only with spotting and torps. Luckily most Yamagiri players act as if it doesn't have guns at all, otherwise there would be an outrage across the community already.
      I think Clausewitz, Dalarna and Patrie are overall well balanced and what a T11 should be. The rest can be very broken at times (Satsuma funny button, anyone?). The most OP supership for me is the Edgar - not only does it have 6 360 degree turrets but the burst fire grants +50% damage and +100% penetration. We tested it against a Conqueror at 8km and it scores consistent citadels with the burst fire. Also imagine being a DD and running into a radar Edgar - happened to me in my Dalarna and I died in seconds. As soon as you spot it, the damn thing jumps on the radar and murders you with the burst fire on the spot...

    • @forge16hanadamaintenancedr43
      @forge16hanadamaintenancedr43 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@almitov I agree with other things you say, but even Edgar has its weaknesses. As a T11 it being worse at handling dds makes it a bit underwhelming. I personally find it easier to play a radar Mino for close DDs support. Edgar ap loses the short fuse for the burst fire to arm instead of overpen, so it doesn’t arm on thinner ships like the Japanese DDs. Thus running radar on it require a team that shoots dds, which doesn’t happen that often.
      The one super ship I absolutely hate the most is Conde. For the opposing team, it allows no counter play to any ship type when played correctly, which I find extremely annoying. For the friendly team, it is a back line farmer with barely any utility, which I also find extremely annoying. The only thing that probably annoys both teams more than a Conde is probably a CV. Conde main players being shat on is one of the main reasons I’m so happy about the airship escort addition. Seriously, F these French sc*m

    I have to disagree with Flamu, which normally I fulling agree with and support his opinions. When the Meta changed with long range sniping 4 years ago, I switched to 20km Noob torps (with speed buffs from Captain skills and ship modules you can get the speed a few knots slow then 12km torps) for Japanese DDs. The strategic reason for 20k torps is because it keeps BBs in the back of the map and not supporting DDs and cruisers and helps your team take caps and objectives. Even if you don't hit any ships they freak out the average world of warship "potato" player, but results may very on experienced players. Remember what Mighty Jiggles says "its not stupid if it works."

      Island-hugging nose-in is great only if you can reverse into cover and if there is no sub on your side nor CV in the match. Another downside is that if your flank gets steamrolled, you're sinking right there. So when starting off, just play like a regular cruiser until you get the hang of playing more aggressively. 12km is a bit far for BB cits - probably need to aim for the upper belt for consistent damage. Even Petro with 40% more pen, still shatters a lot on many BBs. Maybe try below 8km or 6km for the BB citadels.
