  • Just checking in for an Update, things have been happening but nothing really worthy of it's own video.
I'll do a proper video on the design of the v4 2 stroke build, I'll talk about all of the build considerations. I also have a lot of packages showing up from Aliexpress, once they're all here I can take you through designing and manufacture of a Mini Gp bike on a very tight budget.
Here's a link to the first Land Rover vid and the other channel, check it out.

Nothing like a old series 2 Land Rover many parts are available at Kotara 4x4 supplies located near Newcastle NSW. The old that owned the business brought many of the Australian army spare parts supplies. The V4 sounds interesting.

Very interested in the v4 project.
Interested in every bit of the project from the cad ,machining ,casting , designing and the thought processes.
This is the coolest thing on youtube right now
Love twostrokes and the screamer v4 gp bikes

Thank you, I’ll make an effort to share more of what goes into it.

same here. im working on a twin cylinder am6 2 stroke build and i would love to get some insight on designing, casting and machining from watching you@@OddsandEndsMachining

I think I belong to that 1% who is interested in the design process of the v4. Design of the cassette looks good 👍. I'm also working on a Tularis kind of project. Designing a casing for a Ducati 749 gearbox, to put behind a Polaris 700cc 2 stroke twin.

Sound like a cool project, I'll try put something up but it will most likely be a lot of CAD/me waffling on about considerations I make and things I have learn't from the earlier V Twin project.

@@OddsandEndsMachining sounds good! Maybe further in the process, when you have more 3D prints for instance, it could be more interesting for a wider audience. Some screen shots of the design on Instagram might also be interesting. Very curious how the project will evolve. Good luck👍

love your work, maybe I'd be a little careful putting factory torque on any bolt into alloy cases. I normally just use feel, and the right length tools - like a 8mm spanner is short so you dont over torque. I've worked on BMW cam caps with 6mm bolts that strip if you look at them side ways

Had a similar experience with Benelli Tornado TRE cam caps (M6 bolts). The threads are barely strong enough to take torqueing to factory spec the first time, it's almost guaranteed that some of them will strip the first time the cams are removed and replaced. Rather than under-torquing a fastener that would have catastrophic consequences if it loosened or failed, I drilled and helicoiled every cam bearing cap thread and fitted high tensile studs.

@@ferrumignis I do Like the added security of recoils. It's strange when the factory uses bolts instead of studs on such important parts that need to be removed a few times to adjust most modern valve shims.

@@OddsandEndsMachining Especially when it's a relatively fine thread bolt into aluminium. Benelli was unfortunately Chinese owned when the Tornado TRE was launched which probably explains a lot...

are you going to to machine the gear box bearing plate from solid or are you going to make casting and then machine the bearing bores etc ?

    • @OddsandEndsMachining
      @OddsandEndsMachining  Год назад +1

Still undecided but I’m leaning towards a casting, less waste, a whole lot less machining and it’ll only be a 1kg pour.
Also the case and plate will expand and contract at the same rate.
