And his decision victory against Silva in their first fight - he tapped in the last round, but clearly won the other four. 49-46 Sonnen, undefeated, undisputed
In fairness to Royce Gracie, back then it wasn't really about fighting as much as it was selling the Gracie family's methods as a product. Dan Henderson shouldn't have been on this list. Dan was a great wrestler who kept fights standing with outstanding takedown defense. Ben Askren's problem was that his one trick wasn't really all that good outside of the B-leagues. Paul Sass was another one-trick pony (submissions from his back) who never amounted to much.
Nah Ben had great success with his wrestling in both One and bellator, thats hardly the B leagues. The Askren we got in the UFC was unfortunately an older over the hill version. During his prime he could have wrestle fucked alot of the guys in the UFC to victory. Khabib sure did.
Could have also added Ryan Hall to the list... he relied entirely on his jiu jistsu skills to get submissions until he fought someone who finally figured out how to beat him. A great submission artist for sure but also very much a one trick pony whose game never evolved.
@@inkognito3145 he did against almost all his opponents. The lowlight reel of bj Penn even has one of those occasions of hall just rolling for the legs
@@inkognito3145 also im genuinely not being rude toward you or hall. And idk if you remember it (been a while) go rewatch Hall vs Maynard. All he kept doing was just going for the legs and frustrating may and the crowd etc
Exactly. His ultra gay hugging style is enough to make any straight man quit on the sole fact that they don't want to hug on another sweaty man for 15 to 25 minutes.🤢
How is he a one trick pony? Number one wrestling, BJJ, and other forms of grappling are similar but nowhere near the same thing. If you ever had a single HS wrestling match, you'd be well aware. We've seen him win many times via submission. We've seen him ragdoll people a lot. We've seen him out point people. Shit he won his title by making Raging Al eat his jab for 5 rounds. Just because he dominated everyone, excluding a roided out monster, which, btw he should have lost badly because his only skill got shut down according to your logic, doesn't mean he's a one trick pony. I can't stand anyone who calls people "casual" so I won't. I will, however, say anyone who calls arguably the greatest and most dominant fighter in MMA history a one trick pony ignorant.
Khabib is who came to mind for me here. Everyone knew what he was going to do everytime he found. He takes you to the ground and then just wins control points while hitting you and trying to submit you. It's all he ever did because nobody could stop him from doing it.
Disagree with Makhachev. He outstruck Oliveira, and uses his wrestling because it's a VERY effective weapon. But his striking is satisfactory, so I don't see how he is a one-trick pony
Nah khabib used his striking to open up takedowns, aswell as using the threat of a takedown to open up strikes and islam can strike just not as well as others at the top. Sure wrestling is their thing but neither were scared to strike
@@gabrielmunoz987 islam will be better than khabib for that reason. Guys a scary mix between khabib wrestling, charles submissions, and good enough striking to survive
@@lynackhilou4865 you mentioned judo submission and wrestling and all of it are all "grappling" he's good at "grappling" therefore he's a one trick pony. but there's no denying that he's very good at utilizing the only skill he possessed and he's very good at it.
@@eetfuk3571 i get what you're saying but i disagree , grappling covers so many different aspects , those are many tricks and skills that are seprate and most people don't use them effectively , a one trick pony would be like damian maia relying solely on bjj , or chael relying solely on wrestling , while someone who uses all these aspects in unison is literally what mixed martial arts are about . Again , even if we were talking about stand up , someone like izzy is not a one trick pony despite all his skills being ' striking ' oriented, and let's not forget it's not just about offensive skills but defense is factored in as well
Whoever made this clearly forgot about Sonnen's spinning backfist KO of Silva and his toe tear off from guard against Jones.

Ryan halls jiu jitsu, Demian maias jiu jitsu, Alex pererias kickboxing

Thats not really one trick its a whole martial art
💯. Just roll for the legs. Was really exciting at first but then not really after a while
@@saltycomet Bro we all know what fight you taking about and he injured his hand in the first round, it’s not like he always fights like that

Does whoever made this list understand what one trick pony means?
Dan Henderson? I can't get onboard with that, the H-Bomb was a dangerous weapon tho.
well, Henderson is actually quite known for being a one trick pony. the only trick he knows is to knock the fuck out of you.
Damien Maia and his BJJ.. even he said it himself
Paul Craig is a definite one trick pony, but its becoming pretty clear that not following him down near guarentees a victory
I feel the biggest one trick guys are lewis, craig, hall and puelles (think thats his name)
The fact you called hendo a one trick pony is a joke he was a Greco Roman wrestler and he could put your lights out
Khabib is by far the greatest 1 trick pony of all time. How on earth he didn’t make this list is beyond me.
He is one of my favourite fighters exactly for this reason. I was looking for him here, how didn't this dude put him in is absurd...

It's a good video but i don't know if i can give it a thumbs up with all that fake (clearly CGI) footage of Chael supposedly losing
How dare you say that about Lord Chael
You put all the people on here but leave out damien Maia???
Khabib is who came to mind for me here. Everyone knew what he was going to do everytime he found. He takes you to the ground and then just wins control points while hitting you and trying to submit you. It's all he ever did because nobody could stop him from doing it.
chael sonnen one of the best boxers and wrestlers. hes been boxing since 87' take notes.
He outclassed Rampage with striking
You should do a video of the best well rounded fighters
khabib, tuivasa, makhachev, hall, puelles, malkoun, and madsen are all one trick ponies
He doesnt wanna upset the khasuals because u know....
Disagree with Makhachev. He outstruck Oliveira, and uses his wrestling because it's a VERY effective weapon. But his striking is satisfactory, so I don't see how he is a one-trick pony
I agree with Khabob but yea, I have to admit Islams arsenal is better than Khabob.

Never been first before.
I guess I need to make my own list
That's the spirit. Can't wait to see your list dude.
13 hours later and we are still waiting...
Where is it bro
omalleys ko over edie was the most perfect one punch ko ever
HEY! Where does Kimbo Slice fit into the one-trick-pony conversation? 🤔
Ryan hall, Khabib, Charles olivera,, Francis Ngannou, rozenstruik, are fighter who could’ve been added
Despite being a 1 trick pony, Chael Sonnen almost beat Anderson Silva in his prime, that to me was insane.
Wo we just gonna pretend Chael dropped Anderson Silva multiple times with his Boxing??? Ok.
Shocking list.
Thought Houston Alexander will be on the list.
How is khabob not on here?
Who's that???
Sure an elite grappler who uses wrestling , judo and submissions with great transitions and lethal ground nd pound is defintely a one trick pony

hendo shouldnt be on this list💀 he deadass just doesnt fit the description of a one trick pony
Is he the same narrator from the montage king MMA?
Remove Henderson and add Ryan Hall
L
Where is Khabib
I don't know anyone that has respect for Paul "Sucker Punch" Daley
Umm where is khabib
Khabib only relied on his Sambo skills, up to his retirement, no one could even solve it
Bad list
💪
Gokhan saki is lucky to miss out and Ryan hall also has to be in
2nd
Francis Ngganou?
He beat Ciryl Gane by taking him down and controlling him on the ground. So he doesn't belong on a list like this anymore.
Alex Pereira too I think
Your mad, his versatile with his striking and does different set ups for his knees and punches
@@teengohanssj2109 bro said nothing to indicate he’s mad 😭
Good list guys 👍
I thought shish kabob was going to be first.
Cowboy Cerrone's headkick
Cerrone has good submissions he's not just looking for that head kick everytime.
